Chelmsford Public Library

Great library but people need too understand the quiet room means QUIET!!! Turn off your cell phones and take your conversations upstairs!!! It’s not fun trying too study with all the noise it’s pretty annoying considering I don’t have a lot of free time to waste.

Once again silent room is not silent! People on cell phones– others standing at the foot of the staircase having a ten minute conversation really? What gives —
Actually no common sense! People are just ignorant!

They are open on Sundays again from Oct to May!
GREAT little library! Has things people use/​need, kind of a community center, and very helpful staff.

This place has gotten better since I grew up here. Also, all the architecture has been preserved like before. So, it’s nice to see the familiar years later. The staff is wonderful and always helpful. The first floor has a great layout for circulation as well as media and magazines in the back with a separate large Children’s section away from the adults.
Downstairs is Young Adult, Internet computers, Meeting rooms, Reference section, and Non-​fiction area. Bathroom on both floors makes it very convenient compared to other neighboring Merrimack Valley libraries. Also, wide open areas with tables for group studies or just research. Plus, you can reserve your passes for museums as well. Okay, here’s the breakdown again with some more details.

When I was young and lived in a suburb of New York, I remember going to the local library every Saturday. The brick building was about the size of a 30×40-foot split entry house but through an eight-year-old’s eyes, the structure looked like a mansion. Mrs. Kelder, the librarian, was a very warm and helpful person, and I still have such fond memories of my experiences. I have no idea what that library looks like today or whether it’s still there, but I am lucky that my town has everything I’d ever want in a library: a huge selection of magazines, travel books, job searching material, self-​help books, banks of computers, «silent» areas, private meeting rooms, museum passes, CDs and DVDs, programs for children and adults (including language and computer lessons), comfy chairs, and most of all, knowledgeable and friendly librarians.
Whether due to the current economic situation or just because people enjoy the comfortable, peaceful ambience, the place is always hopping and the parking lot is always packed. I must confess that when we lost electricity for five days, I spent hours here: It was warm, helped me deal with email-​withdrawal, and enabled me to have the luxury of using real electricity and not candles as I browsed a myriad of magazines.
As a side note, a background designer for The Simpsons is a Chelmsford native, and the town hall in the show is based on the Chelmsford Public Library (prior to the recent reconstruction).
For the record, the library is thus far the only place I’ve rated five stars. It deserves five stars and more.
