Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa

From the turn of the twentieth century until the World War II period, the resort at Chesapeake Beach was the real deal. There was even a roller coaster over the bay. These days, the resort is a skeleton of its former self. The railway museum is one of the few remaining vestiges of the time when Chesapeake Beach was a cool place to visit.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for Memorial Day weekend. Having done all of the local beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, I wanted to try something different. When we arrived Friday evening after work, parking was no problem, and we easily found our way into the hotel.
As other Unilocalers have mentioned, this is not really a resort anymore. There is a hotel with an indoor pool, various slips for boats, and a small (and I mean tiny) «beach» area. Frankly it is more of a sandbox, and the boat slips are situated in front of it, so there is no real area for guests to wade into the bay or go swimming.
Back to the hotel room. At $ 180 a night, the amenities were about as good as I have gotten at cheap motels. I was supposed to have a view of the bay, but there were these really big green things that were right in the middle of my view… Vinny Gambini would have been furious. Aside from the trees, the room had a moldy, mildew smell and the comforter had an old blood stain. Shockingly, the room was equipped with a Keurig, but the resort only provided decaf pods! Finally, the walls are not very thick, and during the middle of the night we were able to hear reveling from a post-​wedding party in an adjacent room.
In the morning, I had an opportunity to use the fitness center. It is about the size of a glorified closet and contains two treadmills, an elliptical, and one weight machine. Luckily I was alone during my workout otherwise things would have been uncomfortably cramped.
The most disappointing part of our stay actually occurred at 10:15 the morning of checkout. As stated numerous places, the checkout time from the hotel is 11am. However, at 10:15 hotel maids opened the door to our room; this was also in spite of the fact that I still had the «do not disturb» sign hanging on the door handle. I was able to rush over to the door to keep them from barging in, but the situation was very uncomfortable.
Overall, I think this is a cool location and there are lots of neat places to visit in Calvert County (especially the Calvert Cliffs). However, I probably will not be staying at this resort on my next visit to the area.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of April and we were delighted with the accommodations and the beautiful view.
We had gone on a rockfish trip and decided to stay over so that we didn’t have to drive back after a long day of drinking and sun.
The front desk associates were very courteous and the partial water view room was a decent size and clean.
There was a mini fridge which I put our rockfish in and put in a cooler the next day. We had some drinks at the bar and enjoyed playing the slot machines for a while then sat out on the dock as the sun set.
I would definitely go back for a quick and affordable overnight in the future. It appears to be a decent spot for smaller concerts as well as private events like weddings and corporate events.

So they call this place a resort and spa. On the Chesapeake bay. A beach resort at that! First, not really a resort. Just a hotel on the Chesapeake bay with marginal accommodations and no beach. A small blocked off area that one would assume is used as the resorts beach area (probably 50’x50’ square). So, if you offer a «beach», wouldn’t you expect some beach lounge chairs to enjoy the view from. Not the case. No lounging chairs. Just a half round outdoor sofa (probably bought from Home Depot several years ago). The «resort» staff confirmed as well — no beach lounging chairs. Really? No beach chairs? Unbelievable!
Also, an overworked understaffed outdoor bar/​food area and to listen to the entertainment at the outdoor pavilion, you’ll be expected to part with $ 8.00. And for marginal local entertainment at that.
In the hotel, the lobby is a cross between a Comfort Inn and Motel 6. Don’t expect much for your room accommodations either. The owner really could re-​invest his profits into nicer amenities but instead owns a beautiful black Bentley that he parks in the hotel front entrance turn around so as to let the staff know where his priorities lie. Maybe he also wants the hotel guests to think that high rollers come here often.
I travel for business all across the country and I can say this about this joint. Hampton Inns and HolidayInn Expresses have better accommodations and breakfast foods.
Next, go visit the slots casino/​bar. But make sure you’re over 60 years old and a heavy smoker. Probably need a few additional drinks in your belly as well to deal with the smoke smell and locals all talking loudly about their lives in this semi redneck ‘ville. More locals than guests hang at the bar which is no surprise.
And if you want a resort style breakfast buffet, don’t expect it here. Cold eggs that taste like they added powered eggs to the mix. Over burnt sausage patties and bacon and muffins that were probably bought in bulk at the Costco.

I’ve posted some photos which should give you a good idea for why I’m giving a 2 star review. Aside from the dirty, moldy room, the worst part is that I booked a «waterfront view» room. As you’ll see from the photo, it was anything but. The indoor pool was supposed to be heated but it was pretty chilly. And dirty.

I reserved a room online which stated a «water view» room. We got a room with a view of trees and other buildings and barely a water view. I called the front desk and asked about changing this as we had booked a water view room and they stated they had no rooms left. The lady was rude and kept calling me «honey.» They did nothing for us. The room was ok, but kind of outdated. What a disappointment. We’re never coming back here again.

My friend and I used the spa here and got the best pedicures from Lexi and Steve. The customer service is great and we will definitely return!

The staff here is awesome. It’s Christmas eve and the staff is wonderful. We wanted another room, and they obliged us. Ms. Carath at the front desk is an added jewel to this property. I’m really enjoying it.

The salon is phenomenal… MELANIE was sooo friendly, and my color turned out amazing. She even made a special trip to make sure all my request were met! Never received such amazing salon service before.

Amber at the front desk was super nice and upgraded us from a room with a balcony to one of the suites with a balcony! The room was really nice. Big, with a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and a wrap around balcony. We had a view of the bay as well as of the restaurant and casino. We turned the fireplace on while we were in the tub and it warmed up the room. Afterwards we opened the balcony to hear the waves and feel the bay breeze. Only complaint about the room is that the AC was really loud, but honestly we didn’t need to keep the AC on because the breeze was so nice.

The only reason I am giving the hotel 3 stars is because of the SERVICE!!! The room was fine, the view I had was amazing, as was the food at the restaurant! To die for. HOWEVER, the valets did not interact with me or any of the other customers I saw them servicing. No friendly smiles or «Hi, How are you today?» Kind of zombie like. Secondly, one of the older ladies who managed the restaurant looked highly annoyed when my mom and I were asking for service. We were there with our organization so I am sure it was a bit more stressful than usual, but her annoyance showed through and felt personal.
On a positive note: Randall? who worked the night desk was great. Great sense of humour, extremely polite and welcoming. Mr. Taylor the restaurant manager, was very professional and did his best to accommodate everyone (our organization presence was quite large), but he handled it very well.

Very nice hotel with pleasant accommodations. Be aware there is no beach with swimming except for a paid beach up the road and it’s very small. There is a small pool. The restaurants were adequate. A nice feature was the music but there was a cover charge for that too. The staff was wonderful at every turn. This is more like a nice hotel than a resort but we enjoyed our stay.

We were very happy with our massages at the spa. I had a prenatal massages and it was very good. The hotel is next to an amphitheatre and they had booked the most awful white trash rap band, which brought the same kind of crowd, which was unfortunate. They only have a highly coordinated indoor pool.

Come for the wonderful hotel, stay for the massages! My girlfriend chose this destination to spend her birthday and decided to bring me along. First things first, the hotel is delightful… plenty of space for visitors of all types and the rooms are beautiful. As for the salon & spa… if you need a massage, you have come to the right place. I recommend you visit at least once.

For starters, this is not a resort which has been established with all the other reviews. Check in is at 3, we received a call at 3PM letting us know the room was ready however, the room was not available for us therefore we were going to receive a complimentary suite upgrade. OK we were a little excited about the upgrade 4PM comes around and our room is not ready. When we finally go to the room it is not by any means a suite. It was just a room with double beds facing the water. No different than the room I had already reserved. To make matters worse when it was time for bed I sat on the bed and the bed completely broke. We got moved to another room to discover the sheets full of sand. How much more should we have complained? Late check in, broken bed, dirty bed…
They offered us a discounted rate from $ 128 (including taxes and fees) to $ 75 flat I was happy until my husband got the receipt and the discount was only $ 28. The front desk clerk assured me he was going to take care of the reimbursement but failed. Very disappointed!

Not a «resort». Rooms were fine and I liked the balcony. But this place is a little off for a destination stay. We stayed during the week, so it was quiet, but oddly so for the summer time, I thought. It must cater to a weekend crowds, but the bandshell and outdoor bar still showed signs of a weekend party, even two days into our stay. No one cleaned up or straightened up to make the weekday guests really feel like this was a «resort» stay.

I attended a bridal show here and everyone was really nice. I didn’t see the rooms so I can’t review those but the food was really, really good and the Chef was personable and pleasant to talk too! The lobby and downstairs seemed clean.

Yikes. Horrible, tiny portions, slow waitress staff. I was brought the WRONG dish after all the trouble. Had to ask about our food numerous times because we waited so long. Spent over $ 90 for two — and left hungry! We do not eat THAT much either.
We left and did not think twice about returning.
Not a fan of the overall establishment, such as shame because the area is beautiful!
1 star goes to the bartenders who were working on the night of Feb 1^st 2015, they made us great drinks.
Also, even though there is a separate section for vegetarian food, make sure to specify (numerous times) exactly what you need omitted from the dish, this was very difficult for our waitress to understand the first time around.

I stayed this weekend for one night and was very pleased with the service and close proximity of the restaurants. It isn’t the fanciest of hotels, but it is cute and comfortable. I also had the pleasure of getting a last minute appointment in the spa, where I enjoyed a wonderful classic facial and my mother had an express manicure. I will definitely be back.
Note: The Sunday Brunch at the Rod & Reel is a great deal for what is provided. Nancy at the bar is a doll!

Rod and Reel Restaurant was great. Live music!!! Plus, the price was right. We paid $ 109 for a 4^th floor room with a view of the marina and the bay, and got to enjoy fantastic live music.
I donm’t know if this is worth the prices I’ve read — upwards of $ 250 a night — but it certainly was worhty of a 5 star rating at the price I paid. Plus, somethign we didn’t learn until we left, they also own the huge water park across the street and have a great train/​trolley to take you there.
We look forward to returning!

My husband and I decided to get away for the weekend, and picked up a Groupon for Chesapeake Beach Resort. The rooms were very nice and clean; the beds were comfortable, and came with more pillows than you’d ever want. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the pier and bay, which I loved. Unfortunately it was a little too cold to hang out the balcony for too long. Next time, we’ll opt for the Spring.
Everything was a bit pricey, and had we not gotten the Groupon, we probably wouldn’t have stayed here. They did an indoor heated pool, fitness center, and saunas which was great. Don’t get me wrong, the accommodations were nice, but in my opinion, not worthy of being upward of $ 250/​night.
They have bingo and slot machines on-​site, which was a fun way to spend some time without leaving. Unfortunately, I’m not the best gambler, so not much time was spent here.
I passed on the spa as I haven’t heard the best things, and the prices were way higher than I’ve seen at regular salons in the DC area.
They have free coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the lobby for hotel guests.
