History

Established in 2008.

aloft Chesapeake Hotel is a part of the new chain of W Hotels launched by Starwood in early 2008. This fun, fabulous, savvy, sassy and sophisticated new brand of full-​service style hotel offers our guests free wi-​fi, signature cocktails at our W xyz bar, a 24 hour fitness center called re: charge and a tasty gourmet breakfast nook called re: fuel. Infused with the spirit and the style of the famous W Hotel brand, aloft is effervescent and playful while still offering it’s guests a quality level of service and accomodation.

The W xyz bar, located inside the re: mix lounge and lobby is a fully stocked bar, replete with full wine list and several sassy signature cocktails. With local beers on tap and imported wines by the glass, W xyz bar offers our guests an opportunity to mix and mingle in style.

Prior to «work» at aloft Chesapeake, Mira studied English and Music at New York University, graduating with a B.A. in English in 2002. As an admitted wannabe media maven, Mira began her career in Publishing, working in Marketing and Advertising at Conde Nast and, more specifically, at Parade Magazine. After leaving New York, Mira returned home to Norfolk, VA and began working for Portfolio Weekly Magazine and, finally, skirt! Magazine. As a volunteer event coordinator for the Norfolk SPCA, Fairy Godmother’s of VA, the Norfolk Forum and any stray gaggle looking for direction, Mira has charged her way into event planning and organizing or, as she might say, Fun-​Fest Development. For her, being the Queen of the Vibe is not just about planning a great gig, though. It’s more about creating, developing and delivering a space that is all at once beautiful, smart, cheerful sophisticated and energetically alive. She invites you to hop on and/​or follow this train.

A review of their lobby and bar area…
A Wednesday night in Chesapeake. Don’t expect a rush of people. I would expect a better crowd on weekends. Aloft in Town Center Virginia Beach? Yes, please.
The décor? Legit. Bright. Modern. Cool. Hip. Vibrant. My kind of place. The design is sleek. It’s the type of hotel and bar I would seek when traveling. You immediately feel cool when walking inside. You feel younger. I immediately want to buy out a room and live there. The place is everything that fits into a big city.
The bathrooms? Sure, I’d love to spend 45 minutes every morning in a bathroom as cool theirs.
I saw a puppy in the lobby so I assume they allow pets.
I cannot remember where I experienced an Aloft before (it was a great experience years ago) but if their brand is consistent, I highly recommend a hotel like this.

Hotel staff was nice, got it on points, it was inline with what I expected. Very close to other hotels, and off the beaten bath. But I paid with points so it worked out well. Only complaints was the food in the lobby wasn’t very good.

I loved this hotel! Is a luxurious stay for a cheaper price and you get what you pay for and more! I loved how when I was thirsty late at night I didn’t have to run around trying to find a vending machine like most hotels, food/​snacks and drinks were conveniently located downstairs in the main lobby and there was always 2 people at the front desk to help with my needs. I also brought my 2 dogs with me and they didn’t charge me extra which was awesome! It’s close to a lot of shopping and dinning. This hotel is also located in a very safe part of town. We were only 20 minutes away from Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I will be staying here next time I visit Virginia Beach. BEST hotel stay so far!!!

I personally did NOT stay here. I just spent a couple hours at the beautiful, but deserted, WXYZ lounge. Sarah took great care of our stoopidly wasted selves and the bar really is pretty. It was getting zero traffic at one in the morning, though — which makes sense. Why on earth would a hotel bar be open until two in the morning? I don’t get it… but I was GRATEFUL!!!

The service was poor. When we arrived at 5:00 p.m. our room was not ready. This hotel informed me that th3 check was at 3:00 p.m. We waited for over 1 hour for our room to be available. This means that from the time that customers checkout at 1200 until our room was available amounted to around 6 hours.
I contacted corporate because of the lack of professionalism and timeliness.

I am three days in to a 14 night stay and not one negative thing thing to say. The front desk customer service is amazing, the bar, lounge, gym are all conveniently located within the hotel lobby. My room was spotless and they offer a credit of $ 5 to the refuel station if you refuse house keeping. This is the most eco friendly hotel that I have stayed in and I will continue to book with them in the future.
Awesome hotel for anyone that works for the federal government, just ask for the government rate!

This review is for the Chesapeake location. I do not recommend if you are used to the comforts of nicer hotels. No ice machines –you have to get a bag of ice from the lobby. No restaurant, no room service– you order at the bar from a very limited selection of burgers and bar food. One meal to choose from if you are vegetarian. The queen sized beds are tiny and if you are tall, your feet will hang over the end. No free continental breakfast… you have to pay and wait. All in all, uncomfortable and frustrating.

If you are looking for a bed to sleep in and a shower this is your place.
then you don’t care if the TV doesn’t work right the air conditioning doesn’t get the room below 71 the roof in the bathroom leaks the bed is a futon like mattress thrown on a frame.
Yep European type living at its best.
While the lobby is nice the rest of the hotel looks like it was designed for a glow in the dark fun house.
They advertise that they have breakfast for guests. Sure they do. Not complimentary like most hotels and what they do have is an 8 dollar breakfast sandwich.
Very disappointed in our stay and won’t ever be coming back to these hotels again.

The Aloft, where do I begin… the first time I stayed in the Aloft was in Winchester, Va. Beautiful hotel, the scenic views were awesome, location on point. The Aloft in Chesapeake Va, not so great. … first we turned the ac down while we were at dinner only to come back and it doesn’t work… the tv makes this high pitch noise and it has a black screen, basically not working. The door to the bathroom jams so you may get stuck in there if your not careful. I guess my only highlight was the 3 hybrid only parking spaces, since I drive a hybrid it was a plus. Overall we won’t be back to this location.

While traveling between the Eastern Shore and Chesapeake for business I stayed for two nights here.
A shower stall (not a tub/​shower) with HOT water and GOOD water pressure. One of the better bathroom experiences I’ve had. Really well done.
The room is spacious and yet not large. The bed was very comfortable. The lighting was excellent and for sleeping was very dark.
More only complaint is the TV selections were horrible (analog over the air stations — no HD). But I really didn’t watch TV. I played billiards in the hotel. Seriously — a cool pool table. The whole ambiance of the hotel is relaxed, laid back and comfortable yet professionally maintained. A great place and the rate we received was very very good! Will definitely stay again.

Pros: Hotel is pretty fancy compared to others in this area and the price is good. At least for me it was. The beds were comfy, rooms were very nice (but small), the gym was adequate, small indoor pool, decent little bar/​hangout area downstairs. The area it’s in has a Mall, movie theater, restaurants, ext .
Cons: no jacuzzi. I think that is kind of silly having an indoor pool and no jacuzzi. No free breakfast, although there is apparently a breakfast you can pay for in the morning.
Very happy with the hotel. Got it for a great price and the rooms were small but super nice.

I went to the WXYZ lounge located in the lobby of the Aloft. It’s a nice cozy area to hangout and socialize. The bartenders were very nice and friendly. The food was just Okay.
I would definitely return to hangout again.
The rooms are nice and modern but not too big. The beds were very comfortable. There’s No bath tub just a shower in the bathroom.

Aloft is a hotel for the trendy people of America who are willing to sacrifice space and good dining for trendy vibes. I loved my 2 day stay at the Aloft hotel. Even with the name I was still surprised by the size of the room a king sized bed, tv and desk on one side of the partition wall and a small closet, mini fridge, luxurious shower and bathroom (with a sliding glass door) on the other side.
I had many issues with the tv and adjacent aux box to connect music too but eventually figured it out on my own. The shower is divine, however one should wait to use the sink after flushing the toilet as I found the sink started to gurgle a little after doing that.
The downstairs bar and lounge area were nice and I could see it being packed in the warm weather months. Overall I would definitely come again just at another time.

This was the second Aloft we have stayed in and it was exactly like the other (in Atlanta). Very modern and chic with friendly staff and clean room. It’s conveniently located near lots of restaurants, a mall, movie theater and a Target. I like that if you stay for more than one night and refuse the cleaning service they’ll either give you a gift card ($ 5 I believe) to the XWYZ bar or 250 extra Starwood points. We only stayed one night so we did not take advantage, but it’s a great idea. The room looked exactly like the pictures online. The lobby and outside seating were very clean and nice. Also in the lobby were iPads you could use to get online (not super fast but better than 3G) and print. We were able to order movie tickets online within a few minutes
The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because we could not get on the free wifi. Once we accepted the terms and conditions the next page didn’t load so we couldn’t connect. Kind of a bummer but for one night it was fine.

A nice enough hotel, but certainly nothing spectacular! It’s located in Greenbrier, so this would be the perfect hotel to stay at if you’re traveling and interested in being close to a mall/​many different stores/​restaurants.
I liked the super modern feel of the hotel, from the lobby/​entrance, down to the actual room itself. Upon checking in, the front desk attendant told us that the hotel was actually a «green» one and that they didn’t have ice machines, but instead we could take packages of ice from a cooler downstairs for no charge. I thought that was pretty cool! Many companies talk the talk of «going green» but don’t actually back it up.
My stay itself was comfortable and I had no real issues with the room, which was pretty nice, although the bed was VERY firm. The shower pressure though, FABULOUS.
A few things that I wasn’t really fond of during my stay:
— No continental breakfast! There was the option of buying breakfast items, but I prefer hotels that offer a sit down breakfast option. I wouldn’t have even minded paying for something like this.
— You could only come DOWN the stairs. I was staying on the second floor, so having to wait for the elevator (only one was working) each time was pretty annoying, when I could have just taken stairs if there were that option.
Overall, an OK hotel that I would stay at again, but I would think about paying a few dollars more for another place that had a breakfast, stairs, etc.

I got an $ 87 rate on Expedia last night for same-​day booking. Hotel was clean and convenient to my meeting in Chesapeake– not far from the loop that encircles the Hampton Roads area. It is on a street with about eight other like-​priced hotels where all the chains are represented. My only complaint is that the gym did not have a bench press machine. It does have dumbbells, yoga mats and treadmills.

Smallest rooms ever. I would never want to share, or stay for very long. Far too cramped. There’s a lot of compacting and shelving to create space since lofts are available. This is an extended stay type of place — go figure.
I like the partition for the vanity and the bathroom; it’s a sliding mirror wall.
The food is great and they play good music in the lounge.
Friendly staff. Great location. And the best hotel in the area, for one night only. More than one? Get cozy at the Hyatt or Staybridge.
