Barnettes Remanufactured Engines

I went with these guys because they talk a good game and their warranty is better than anybody else… my logic was: why would they offer such a great warranty unless they were confident that they would not have to make good on because they do a quality job… WRONG…
at first they sent me a remanufactured motor that had incorrect engine mounts so it went back… then they told me they could not find another motor with correct engine mounts… so I sent them the original and they rebuilt it… problems again so it went back again for more work and then back again for reinstallation… originally they gave me a time frame and it easily took an extra 4 weeks… my car was out of commission while shipping and rebuilding and installation and then removal and more shipping — about 8 weeks and guess who had to pay shipping… not Barnettes ! and I spent way too much time following up over the phone… lucky this is for my 2 seat toyota so I had another car to drive… finally the engine was back in the car… the engine loses oil but is not leaking so it is the valve guides… oil leaks through the valve guides and then is burned up… several mechanics have told me this is their diagnosis… so the guides were not milled properly with the correct tolerances… the engine runs and revs well but it runs very hot and uses a quart of oil per week… I have used many additives and nothing stops the oil consumption — the warranty is worthless as I will have to pay for the removal and sending back to Barnettes and then pay to have it reinstalled… not to mention the down time… and the engine will probably be the same… I have no faith in these guys… so I will drive the car until this engine dies then I will replace it with a new or used engine from a reputable shop and will really do a lot of homework…“caveat emtor” my fault for trusting this company… I have plenty of time left on the warranty, but why bother…

STAY AWAY. I offered them three chances to fix my motor once I got it back from them (Which also came late).They decline the opportunitie (s) to fix the motor that they just rebuilt and told me to use snake oil and put more miles on it to break it in! Crazy right. They told me that the warranty is good for a number of years and cover you for 100,000.00 miles. The warranty is not much of a warranty in my opinion its more like a escape clause. This is how the warranty works: So the dealership and 2 other mechanics would do the work at a rate of $ 95 an hour and it would take 10 hours. So that come to $ 950 in labor. The parts cost $ 400 even. Thats a grand total of $ 1350 TO FIX THE MOTOR THAT WAS REBUILT BY Barnettes Remanufactured Engines! They wouldn’t do the work and claim IT WOULD ONLY TAKE 4 HOURS TO DO THE WORK. THEY WOULD PAY FOR 4 HOURS OF LABOR AT A $ 55 AN HOUR RATE. THAT COMES TO A GRAND TOTAL OF $ 220 THAT THEY WOULD PAY.(THAT WOULDN’T EVEN COVER THE COST OF PARTS)! So lets do the math $ 1,350-$ 220=$ 1,130 that I pay out of pocket. Why would I pay for a motor to be rebuilt and then pay to have another mechanic actually fix it. Read that warranty very carefully if your feeling lucky go for it. They tried to sue me! Trust me and save your self a major headache you don’t want them in your life! I take great pride in any work that i do. I truly wish that we lived in the time when a real man took pride in the work they did. Google them on complaint websites and you will see how they have handled their other customers. Again let me be clear this is my opinion you can try your luck Not this guy ever again. To
Some people in the world today don’t know a hard honest day of work. Just lie and cheat your way through things I hope they understand that GOD will make them answer for all their sins.

One star is too much for this company. Warranty is as good as bait and switch, it means nothing! They use that as a way to scam people into buying from them. Bought an engine for my sons Mustang. It knocked from day one! Called Barnettes they had my mechanic jumping through hoops testing this and that and taking pictures of heat tabs. Bottom line old rusty parts were used, cylinder was filling with oil, poor workmanship on the part of Barnettes. Barnettes wanted us to ship the entire car to them, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Thank God I wasn’t dumb enough to do that because they would have kept the entire car! This company is a scam, and I’m surprised I’m still hearing more complaints and their still in business. I can’t believe their doors are still open. Check out Complaints Board website as well. They are not a member of BBB and I can see why. A class action suit should be filed and I am more than happy to join in. Buy from a real company that actually honors their work and produces a good product… JASPERS ENGINES!!!

Stay away from this company. They said it would take two weeks to get my engine and it took over 1 month. They are totally disorganized and weren’t even sure of the ship date. I also had to call twice for them to pick up the core. The second time I called they thought they had already picked it up. Their warranty is useless. It only covers up to $ 550 in labor (it cost $ 1,500 in labor to replace that engine) and you have to pay to ship it back. The engine had internal noise and I took it to 2 mechanics that said the engine should be replaced. Why would I be out of pocket about $ 2,000 to get another engine from a company that did such a poor job in the first place. Google «barnettes engine complaints» and you will find the complaints board. Instead of using a company that my mechanic recommended, I tried to save a few dollars and what a mistake.

Do NOT do business with this company. The 5 year warranty they offer is for their protection NOT yours and it contains many escape clauses for them including one that requires any lawsuits be brought in Virginia. Since purchasing my engine from them in May of 2012 it has failed twice and this most recent go-​around has left my car in the repair shop for 35 days and counting while Barnette’s requested test after test searching for something that would allow them to void my warranty, which they eventually found.
