Been coming here for years. Food is very good and the shakes are the best. I usually have the banana shake and plenty of fresh cut chunks of banana. A must have in Chester.

The large cone is the biggest ice cream I have ever had and she actually got it to stay on the cone unlike other places. Love this place and love the wood stove. Defiantly will be back when we drive through Chester again.

Shakes were good… just wish there was a little more friendly attitude from those working. Not even a hello when we walked in the door.

It’s a frosty shack. Don’t expect gourmet food or service, just nom it if you’re in Chester and hungry. Service complaints? Go fuck yourself, servers are teenagers who don’t have your hipster Bay Area expectations or experiences. Give them a break, it’s just a fucking milkshake and fries. You’ll get over it once you get a bite and chill the fuck down.

We were in town for the weekend and were told by our host that this is a classic stop that their family has visited for generations. It seems among other reviews that nostalgia factor ranks high in the ratings. As noobs to the area, though, we took the Pine Shack Frosty on face value — it’s essentially a local incarnation of a Fosters Freeze with less air circulation and off-brand«catsup». The prices are great, the food is classic no-frills American fare, but the service isn’t especially exuberant. The fries(large, $ 2.75) seems like they were double– or triple-fried. None of us could handle more than a few, so this is great item to share with a crowd. The above-and-beyond highlight of this place — and the real reason to stop in — is their shakes(30 flavors available, $ 3.50). I’m pretty sure it’s vanilla soft serve mixed with Torani(pump) syrup, since my friend’s shake was only Raspberry-flavored half-way down. There also aren’t any flavors of ice cream on display, but our Chocolate-Marshmallow shake was dang tasty! This place isn’t trying especially hard, but if you’re in the area and want a quick dose of soft serve, check em’ out! It’s hard to go wrong with sugar and… well, sugar. ;-)

I’ve stopped here twice now when I’m working in Chester. It’s a cute little shop, first time I was not impressed with the chicken sandwich(it’s cheap what do you expect) the last time I stopped in I got the Firefighter, which was more money but a complete sandwich this time. It was delicious!!! The lady at the front is always super nice

Super yummy soft serve cone! A small is big enough for two people! It’s also super delish if you get it dipped in the butterscotch dip!!!

I figure, hey a frosty soft serve ice cream sound great today. Just maybe something will be OK in this backwater cesspool for a town Chester! So there is one person ahead of me in line. OK, no probs. I get to the window and the person just walks away … hey what the… hell? Come back here! So I’m waiting for what seems like a while, and finally some one comes back. They have this attitude you can just feel is bad. I didn’t even open my mouth yet! So I order and they are like acting like this is way more work than they want to be doing. Just gives me the total and takes my money. No thank you or you order will be right up or anything. So I get my cone and the ice cream is soooo soft it’s like melting right in my hand, like hey what ‘s going on here? Within 2 minutes, the cone is a melty ass mess and I have to lap up what I could. I’m sooo pissed at this point. Probably because of all the other ineptitude I’ve run into in this stupid town. I hope to never return here or any where near here … ever! I hope this will help others avoid this whole area as well and save you untold aggravation. Stop in Susanville or something instead!

Very impressed with the variety and selection of food option. The staff was friendly and the food quality and quantity was acceptional. The burgers were amazing and the shakes are in a class of there own. Must try the banana penutbutter shake! Very reasonablly priced.

Good frosties, great variety. Really popular, so leave time. Had a 25min wait at 2pm on a weekday. But they are well staffed.

Wanted a quick dinner after a long day of boating, so we stopped by the Pine Shack. Service here was terrible. I have never seen so many workers doing so little. The young lady who took our order acted like she was going to fall asleep while writing down our order. The young ladies«working» in the back weren’t working at all. My family and I were laughing at the fact that it took 5 workers to do the work of 2. We weren’t expecting gourmet. In fact, one of our favorite hamburger places is In-N-Out, which we knew we weren’t going to get. But, the burgers were really weird. The meat had a strange texture and the«sauce» had a really funky taste. None of us finished our burgers even though we were starving. The fries and onion rings were pretty decent. The only saving grace was the chocolate banana milkshake. I did order a malt, but there was no malt flavor to be found. I’ve had many chocolate banana milkshakes over my lifetime and the bananas are always blended into the ice cream. In this case, the bananas were cut up and kept chunky in the shake. Though it wasn’t what I wanted, the milkshake was actually really good and I enjoyed it. We’d go back for the ice cream, but not for the food.

Frosty’s is a local tourist favorite. The main attraction is the 35 different flavors of shakes. Good shakes. Food is just burgers and frozen deep fried poppers, fries, etc. Nothing special. Good for a hungover greasy lunch, but not great or homemade food. I worked there so I know. But hey, they have been in business for years and are always packed in the summers so they are doing something right! Like I said, they have every flavor shake you could imagine, so it is a great place to bring your kids!

This is a GREAT place to stop for a snack, a milkshake, a soft serve cone or lunch. Their menu is surprisingly extensive for a burger joint and they have lots of mix-ins to make a custom shake. We stop here at least once a summer.(Been coming up here for years.) This last time we wanted a snack after being on Lake Almanor all day… so we stopped in and enjoyed the chicken strips and fries basket. The chicken strips were big and meaty and not greasy… the fries were plentiful. And beware… if you order the Large Fries… you get A LOT of fries. Easily can be shared with 3 people. Their Large Fries is like 3 of the small order. They aren’t super fast in getting your food out but the service is good. They are super organized and it’s surprising since it seems like it’s run by a bunch of high schools kids. But these kids know what they are doing. Love it! It’s kinda small inside but they have a small patio area too. I think most people get their food to-go because there’s always a line out front. Note: they have 2 order areas… 1 inside and 1 outside. You can order at either location for anything on their menu.

They have over 30 flavors of shakes to choose from. Large menu selection from burgers to hot dogs to chicken and ribs. We really enjoyed the chili cheese fries. The ambiance is just like a a mountain burger joint should be. It looks like a lot of families stop by for shakes and cones during their camping trips.

We needed a place for lunch while riding through town. I was checking Unilocal while one of the others was talking to someone who used to live here at the gas station we were filling up at. He suggested one of the other places in town and said it used to be good. Well I looked them up on Unilocal and yes they USED to be good. Key word used to be. So I kept looking and this little place had good reviews. It was right across the street from where we were so off we went. when you walk in its a nice cozy place that reminds me of something I grew up with 30 years ago. I ordered the burger with BBQ sauce and onion rings. The burger was very good as were the rings, if you find yourself in Chester this is a great place for lunch. Oh and by the way, when we walked in the former locals that suggested the other place were already in there based on the Unilocal reviews of the other place.

My continuing quest to try places around the lake brought me here for lunch on Monday. It was Memorial Day and I think the place is just getting going for the summer so I was not upset by the time I waited in line to place my order. I was a bit annoyed when I got to the counter and ordered my chili dog only to be told that hey were out of hot dogs. They were also out of chocolate ice cream(seriously? In an ice cream shack?). Not wanting to hold up the line I ordered a cheeseburger instead. It was great. Cooked perfectly and with just the right texture and balance between crunchy ingreatients and hot juicy burger, inside of a fresh bun. I will be back and I am hoping to try that chili dog next time.

We have enjoyed this Frosty for years. What a fun place to hang out in summer. Food is great quality with a fairly extensive menu. And if you like milkshakes this is the place to go. Huge selection of flavors. If you are here in the summer this place gets super busy. patience will yield you a very nice meal.

One of the things I’ll remember most about my trip to Lassen National Park. I wish there were more places like this around SF — onion rings and burger were delicious — and the chocolate shake — amazing!
