Established in 1998.

The Sherman’s Martial Arts system follows the Bruce Lee philosophy of accepting the best from all styles. In pursuit of this goal, Master Instructor Jim Sherman has trained in Sho Yu Sha Do under Master Tom Fox, in Combat Hapkido under the direction of Grandmaster John Pellegrini, in Aikido under the direction of Max Sherman, Shodan and Sensei Lou Perriello, Shidoin, and in CDT under Thomas Patire. In addition to Master Sherman’s current training and teaching, he continues to study a variety of styles to further his martial arts education. The Sherman’s Martial Arts system emphasizes the need for students to study both «hard» and «soft» styles of martial arts to create the best possible self-​defense curriculum.

James Sherman (Founder/​Owner)

Master Jim Sherman is the founder of the martial art called Na Cha Shin Ui, and has been training in martial arts for over 25 years. He has lived in the eastern shore town of Centreville his whole life. He is married to Patricia Sherman and has three daughters: Morgan, Jamie, and Chelsea. He currently owns and operates Sherman’s Martial Arts and holds the position of Maryland State Director for the International Combat Hapkido Federation (ICHF). Jim Sherman is also a 4th Dan Black Belt in Combat Hapkido, and is actively training with Grandmaster John Pellegrini in this unique style that combines total fitness, self-​defense, and mental discipline. He is a Certified Tactical Master Instructor in Control Direction Take-​down (CDT), and a Certified Executive Protection Specialist under the International Training Commission (ITC). He is a member of the Budo Hall of Fame.
