Humane Society of Missouri

I wish I could give this place no stars. The people are incredibly rude and incompetent. You’d think working with animals everyday, seeing people surrender their animals or put them down, they’d show a little more compassion but I was given none. However one lady was an exception to this. I wish I would’ve gotten her name but given the circumstances of my visit it didn’t occur to me to ask. Anyway, I unfortunately had to surrender my little black cat due to the fact that she was aggressive. I had worked with my cat for over a year, trying everything. She saw an animal behaviorist, the vet, I even contemplated putting her on a drug that’s comparative to Xanax (not my cup of tea). I invested countless time and money into my cat but she was still showing aggression towards my boyfriend. So I had to make the ever difficult decision to surrender my cat, knowing very well that she was probably going to get put down instead of put up for adoption. When I arrived we were greeted by a girl who looked about 13. Why was she working there? She was very unprofessional and when asked to do certain things pertaining to her job, she didn’t know how to do them. And then an older lady with short, spiky blonde hair asked why we were there and I told her through my sobs. She then proceeds to tell me that they cannot take aggressive cats and that I need to take her to animal control. I told her that’s not what I was told on the phone (I had done my research pretty well considering this was my LAST resort and I didn’t want to do it.) In the snobbiest way possible she says, «oh well you must’ve gotten our hotline.» Irritated, I was able to tell her the name of the woman I had talked to on the phone (her coworker.) She gave me some paperwork to fill out and I had to dig my ID out of my purse for her. As I was doing this, she was waiting impatiently with her hand extended towards me (THE ENTIRE TIME I LOOKED FOR MY ID). I gave it to her, sat down, still crying and waited. A younger lady with longer hair came in to help. She was asking us questions, being concerned and understanding while the rude lady was interrupting her every 5 minutes saying things like, «so we are taking this cat», «so should I put her through», and my favorite, «well we’ll see if we can even get her.» As the nicer lady opens the carrier and is physically handling my cat. They are professionals, they should know what to do with any animal given any situation. When they finally take my cat back, without letting me say goodbye, I had had enough and walked out, still crying. I waited for my boyfriend to get our carrier back and he got into the car. Again, the nicer lady showed her compassion because she told him to tell me she’d do whatever she could to get my cat up for adoption and find her a suitable home. I do appreciate that.
But my point is, the Humane Society of Chesterfield has no idea what they’re doing. Running the type of business they are, is not really working for them. Considering I am not the first person to write a bad review. And it really is such a shame because of what the Humane Society is supposed to be and represent. What I had to go through was really, really hard and they made it so much worse.

Well maybe if they didn’t charge an extra $ 75 there for the furbabies than the other locations, maybe more of the pets would be adopted and spend less money on their elaborate décor. I feel they should have the same fee across the board for the animals.

The people are rude here. This is a «non-​for-​profit» yet has an interior that is decorated better than any doctors office or dentist office. They are using donations in a way that could much better be used helping the animals instead of wasting cash for their own enjoyment.
We were looking to get a dog and there is no way I would give them the satisfaction of paying for their pompous attitude. We went down to the bare bones, St Louis County Animal shelter in Olivette on Baur… Really nice people, great attitudes and you can tell most of their money goes into the animals. They were awesome, the dogs they had was great but again, the people working there were just really nice and so helpful. The Humane Society in Chesterfield is a disgrace to animal lovers and should NEVER be considered a benefit to our community!
