Description

Specialties

The Foundrie is an independently owned shop in Chesterfield Mall, featuring handmade and vintage items. Owners Shelah McClymont and Elizabeth Hahn-Lawrence, each designers in their own right, take the utmost care in choosing the best, most unique products and displays to set The Foundrie apart from uninspired big box retailers.

History

Established in 2009.

The Foundrie began as a pop-up holiday boutique where I could showcase my own work as well as the work of other local artists and independent designers. I leased a space at Chesterfield Mall and invited all of my crafty pals to sell their handmade goods during the holiday season in December 2009.

It was so rewarding to use all of my past experiences to get creative designing displays and merchandising the shop all while supporting the local economy and individual artists.

The concept was so successful that we opened up full-time in 2011 and I gained a business partner, Elizabeth Hahn-Lawrence in early 2012. We moved into our current, larger storefront in April 2012 and are currently expanding our retail space to include larger antiques and reclaimed furniture.

We love selling handmade and independently produced goods in Chesterfield and our artists and customers are so supportive and positive we couldn’t ask for a better community to be a part of.

Meet the Business Owner

Shelah M.

Business Owner

I live in St. Louis, MO with my husband and daughter. I love the diy movement, getting crafty, thrift store shopping, home décor & design, long tunics with leggings, cold beer, and live music.

I have my bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising, years of experience doing visual display work, and a jewelry line that I launched in 2006 under the name Destroyed by Design.

After joining the crafting community in St. Louis and working the craft show circuit for a few years, I took what I thought was the next logical step and (for lack of a better word) I «founded» The Foundrie. Looking back, maybe it was more of an illogical leap. Either way, I am so glad that I gave it a go and so far I haven’t had the time to look back.
