Decent local place. Lots of fried and or breaded fish options. Has a dockside restaurant feel which was sorta cool and very casual, a bit pricey for frying everything up, but guess that’s also the m.o. for MO I guess. We would give it a second try to confirm, but not anytime soon.

We have lived in the neighborhood for over 15 years, and despite being hungry for something and not being able to settle on what we wanted, and we had never tried the Yellowstone Café. What a mistake. What was in our heads for the past years I don’t know, but the Yellowstone Café deserved our business before tonight, that is for certain. We were greeted by a very pleasant and knowledgeable host, who became our Server. What a nice, and gracious individual he was, incredibly thoughtful he ensured our dinner would be wonderful. There is a problem with the fried onion rings. They are too hot to eat when they come out of the kitchen. The dipping sauce was unique and quite nice. Juicy and flavorful without being the least bit greasy. The menu is definitely heavily leans toward seafood and pasta, but is broad enough that any taste will find something to enjoy. They also have a kids menu with something other than a hot dog or PBJ… Nice touch. Deciding an entrée was exceptionally difficult, and that was before our Server told us about the specials. The soups sounded great, but just too much food tonight. My wife ordered the Walleye sandwich. The sandwich was served open face, which was great because the two pieces of Walleye were too big and thick to eat between the very nice bun. The taste of the fish was simply wonderful. I have missed fried clams since Howard Johnson’s left town and I guess closed it’s doors nationwide, although I see ugly orange roofs driving around the country at times. Yellowstone Café’s clams were sweet, juicy and just wonderful. They were served with a really freshly made, cold and crisp romaine salads plus two sides both of which were excellent. I enjoyed the cold corn and bean veggie, and the slaw was super crisp and delicious. Did I mention the clams were wonderful. Thank heavens for Groupon, since the offer they made encouraged us to try the Yellowstone Café. Groupon, Yellowstone and I were exceptionally happy with the results and the meal. No complaints here, service was just superb, prompt and professional. A definite winner with us.

They’re really missing out on something here. There are very few American bistro casual concept dining options in this area– and the concept of their menu should fill a local niche. The décor is tired– but to be honest, I can easily forgive that for quality food and service. However…it was a FULL10 minutes before anybody approached our table. Our waitress was very friendly, but the service was very slow. The food was«okay» — but the menu needs to be freshened up. Overall, this has room to rate a 4 with a few minor improvements, but I think they’re coasting on their location.

This is a favorite. Very accomodating servers. Wife loves the fish and the chicken quesadilla. I love the Thunderbird chicken sandwich. I’ve probably had it 20 times. Branched out recently and had a burger and was very happy. They’ve got a side dish with black beans, corn, cilantro. Its so good(but hot) I’ll substitute more of it for the fries. Dozens of visits and I bring friends and tourists. Can’t say I’ve ever had a bad experience. That’s why I keep returning.

Best breaded and fried Walleye you will ever eat. Can’t be healthy as it tastes too good.

First visit. Lunch. Walleye Platter… SUPERB! The fish was very tasty and breading was perfect. The veggies were fresh and not mushy. YEAH! The salad was extra and nothing special. The platter was pricey for a lunch…$ 14, and with salad and beer… it was over $ 22. No beer on tap… so sad.

Hardly making it to three stars. The service was so poor Mrs. K. and I debated about walking out and seeing if they would miss us. For starters we ordered their onions fries also known as onion rings. They were a tad greasy and the sauce they came with was poor. We get down to the last ring and oops there is a hair on the plate stuck there from the grease of the onion«fries». We showed to the server not making a big deal about and she said she would take it off the bill. This is where it is going to get strange. I told her we ate the onion«fries» and no need for that. She insisted. Ok fine take it off. You all know by now it was not taken off. For the main lunch I ordered the rib eye sandwich. it was not the best nor the worst. Solid. This sandwich came with real fries and they were good too. Mrs. K. ordered the burger and it was too salty to eat. Now time to pay the bill. There are only one other table in this place being used. I could not get the server attention. Almost laughable how she could avoid eye contact with the only other station in the establishment. Tried the to get manager attention she had dead eyes too. Mrs. K. gets up and tracks down the server. She said«I thought you paid». Damn should have walked out. I would come back again to give it another try as things can’t get worse. I also believe the item to order here is their fish.

Service was very slow at first but I apparently caught them at a very busy time, and it seemed like a manager came out to help seat people and get caught up. The fish is described on the menu as «lightly breaded» so I ordered it since its a house specialty. I would not consider it lightly breaded. The fish had a dense, crunchy crust and wasn’t too appealing to look at. Once I started eating I liked it. It tasted good and the fillet was thick and nicely cooked throughout. The crust has more texture than your standard fish-n-chips. I may try again but see how the burgers are.

Its a small but nice café with very good service. My wife had the walley sandwich which she loved a lot. I tried the world record burger, which was little dry because they did not add any sauce on the bun. We enjoyed our lunch.

I went to Yellowstone Café recently with some folk and despite it being 3:30PM I was pleased to see lunch specials were still in effect(they go until 4PM). The lunchtime Bloody Mary was the same cost as a soda so I ordered one and found it be just the right size for a late-lunch/early-dinner(so, linner?) and a good compliment to my meal. While sipping my Bloody Mary I admired the décor, with it being reminiscent of an old fishing lodge. Fish rested on plaques by hooks that very well could have been the ones that caught them, and if the place weren’t a restaurant you would almost think it could be a museum dedicated to the art of fishing. As someone who enjoys casting a line now and then(although I’m sad to say I haven’t had a good chance to fish in forever) I liked seeing all the fishing gear, although someone who doesn’t care for the sport may be turned-off by the décor. After some time looking around it was time to eat! I ordered the chicken tenders which came with a salad and a vegetable of my choice – I went with fries. The rest of my party ordered some burgers, and after a reasonable wait our food came out! The salad was quite interesting with black beans on it among other little morsels and my chicken tenders were good but had a slight fish-taste, causing me to think they may fry them in the same batter as the fried-fish dishes. The burgers my chums ordered were apparently a tad salty but otherwise good, and we all enjoyed our fries. The portions were good-sized, with my tenders being immense and the salad being practically an entrée-size in itself. We were too full for dessert and all concluded we had a good meal. The slight fish-taste of the tenders was only mildly bothersome along with the over-salting of the burgers, and other than that it was delightful. I would recommend checking the Yellowstone Café out sometime, especially if you desire a good Bloody Mary for«linner»!

Had dinner there January 23, 2015. There were several items that were substandard. Started with a salad, had the house dressing which was very good however about half way through I found a hair in the salad. I ordered a a filet and the waiter delivered a ribeye. He apologized for the error, I choice to keep it instead of waiting. The steak was 40% fat, honestly beyond disappointed. The waiter offered a free dessert to try and off set the error on my order, however the poor quality of the steak I would have rathered just had my money back. My husband had the Walleye dinner and enjoyed it. Would we return, no.

My wife and I found this restaurant while simply looking to try something new. We loved it! The décor is reminiscent of a fishing cabin with many fishing reminders provided by displays of old fishing gear. We both had tilapia, both blackened and lemon pepper, and each was extremely tasty and highly recommended. Serving sizes were quite ample and we felt that it was a good value for the quality of food and service that we received. We also tried the calamari appetizer, and it might be the best calamari that we’ve had. We loved the ambiance, food and service. and plan to return as time goes on.

Came here with my parents over the weekend. As I was looking around, I noticed a lot of «older» adults in the room. That is how you know a place is good. Really, anything you get is amazing. My dad went with their Yellowstone burger, my mom ordered their Thunderbird chicken, and I went with the Pork Loin chops. We each got a garden salad, which is mixed greens with tomatoes, black beans, and sunflower seeds. I love anything that has black beans and sunflower seeds as one big happy family. If you are in the area, totally check them out. Heck, even if you aren’t, still check them out! You won’t regret it!

My college chum and I went for lunch this week. We were seated in a booth in the bar area, which was quite nice. We both got the walleye special, which comes with two sides. $ 13.99 Although the walleye special is a breaded and fried fish, you can ask for it to be baked without breading. And that’s what we both did. The two sides: we both got the twice-baked potato soup that was on special that day. OK it was ONLY a cup. .. but it was huge! And it was the whole meal. For the second side, I got the side salad, which is huge(and I got previously here) with Ranch dressing. My college chum got green beans. The side salad was in a chilled dish of fresh romaine, toasted pine nuts a few black beans, carrots, cucumber and grape tomatoes. It was divine. But I didn’t touch it. Didn’t even toss it, with the dressing on the side. Left it there, knowing what I can eat in one sitting. When the fish came — with a tasty tartar sauce — we didn’t have too much room left. The fish was so well-baked, tender, juicy and flavorful! The green beans looked delicious, and who can say that for green beans often? However, we ate what we could. I took my whole, entire salad home(not even dressed), not touched in any way. And we both took home huge to-go vessels of our fish. Including little containers of tartar sauce. Laura was our server, and she was spectacular. We were also served by other restaurant associates, all of whom were friendly and knowledgeable. I got four other meals out of this. The salad was so huge, and the walleye was so generous.

I enjoyed this place very much! We were a party of six and, despite a full house, the service was prompt, efficient and very pleasant. Five of six at our table enjoyed fish for dinner, and one ordered chicken. All ate with enthusiasm, and all reports were filled with praise. The soup of the day was baked potato soup with cheese, and I enjoyed that with my halibut. The décor will appeal to anyone who enjoys fishing, for there are rods, reels, creels, lures, vintage boxes and products. This restaurant was the choice of a friend, a gentleman who lives nearby and enjoys dining here… and I can certainly understand why.

Had the thunderbird chicken sandwich. Fantastic… as were the salad and fries we had. Came in for late lunch so no crowd and quick service. Will be back for sure to try the walleye.

I have been here a few times before and always seem to forget that it has good food, worthy of repeat visits. This night I came to use a Groupon and glad that it got me back in. I ended up ordering the Southwest chops(excellent), some of the best pork chops I’ve ever had. The potato soup I opted as my side was too salty for me however and the vegetables were decent quality but clearly not heated very well, and were actually cold mostly. I did point this out and was assured they were not using frozen. Also ordered at my table was the Honey Salmon, very good stuff. Before the main meal I ordered the fried clams, something I enjoy when they are made just right and fortunately, they were excellent here. Loved them. Yellowstone café seems to feel like an old style family restaurant … which is okay but if you want fancy you are not going here anyway. The fishing motif is fun to look around at.

This is tucked away and the name really does not suggest what you will find inside. It should be called yellowstone lodge… it does feel l ike one of those great places you run across while staying at the lake in the summer. The crowd and staff are all mature. We sat at the bar and were very happy there. They were a little short staffed taht night so our bartender/waitress was just a little overwhelmed but we can respect that and were in a very chillaxed mood so it all was good. The menu is heavy on fish selections and they have some varieties that go beyond cod and haddock. They had walleye, grouper, and basa just to name a few. They had interesting offerings too such as frog legs… Living in MN for 15 years I was excited to try the Walleye sandwich as they claim it to be among the best in the land. It was huge… easily could have split this as I had a little side salad already which was good because they add a little southwest flavor to the salad by throwing some black beans in there and I think sunflower seeds… They have happy hour specials until 7 pm. We enjoyed some lobster rangoons for half price before the meal and some discounted wine and cocktails. I enjoyed the coating on the fish and thought it was prepared well. Is it the best in the land? Well it depends on who you ask-but It was pretty dang tasty.

Due to it’s proximity to my office, I go here about once a month. They have terrific fish — the walleye is really tasty, as is the grouper, which is somewhat tricky to find in St. Louis. I’m also a big fan of their clam strips. They have excellent slaw, and their french fries are to die for — some of the best I’ve had. Their side salad is romaine and has black beans and sunflower seeds, which makes it a standout. I’ve also been told that their buffalo chicken sandwich & Thunderbird chicken are yummy, but can’t personally vouch for them since I almost always get the clams strips or grouper. Friendly, fast service, but if you’re going for lunch, you should go before 11:30 when they get busy. During Lent on Fridays, I suggest you go before 11:15.
