The Met Bar

Terrible service. The waiter hardly stopped by to ask how our food was. Even worse, I found a hair that had been attached to my fries. Probably not going to take another visit anytime soon.

Rudest service on newbury street. The «general manager» named steve, in quotes as I’m not sure what he could possibly manage, just flat out lied to me.
Last week I was told by a host that the only way we could sit outside was if we had a reservation. (I had made one through ot so we sat outside). Today the hostess of «the outside» (great job title) informed us that our reservation was only for inside.
Met, why don’t you have a real manager confirm or at least make up a policy and be consistent.
Btw, food is so so. Come here only when your fridge is empty.

I came here for dinner, and have a severe Gluten allergy. They have items marked on the menu as Gluten free but the menu is not accurate. Thanks to our absolutely fabulous server, I did not get sick, but I also had very few options. I’d give 5 stars to the waitstaff, 1 star to the management (for the menu being inaccurate for allergies), and 2.5 stars for the food.

Really delicious lunch! We stopped on a whim Friday for lunch and had a fantastic lunch experience. We both got burgers and they were so good. I ordered my gluten-​free and dairy-​free and the Met Bar was super accommodating. Definitely recommend this place!

It was ok but nothing to write home about. We were seated right away and water glasses filled. But the waiter didn’t seem to care if we were ready to order. Also the waiter was hard to understand. The food was ok but again nothing outstanding for the price. The fries seemed to be over cooked and the burger left something to be desired. My guest got the strip steak but nothing to impressive. I just didn’t like the place. It wasn’t my tastes. I don’t think I’ll be going back.

I came here for drinks with a good friend. The place had a fairly solid beer list and a couple good selections on draft. I also felt the music play list was perfect. Lots of cool folky singer songwriter stuff. The service was pretty good overall. It definitely served its purpose and was dead enough where I could catch up and spend time with my friend. No complaints but nothing to blow me away either.

Went there early last night, a Friday, just before 6. The place was pretty empty and the hostess seated me right away even tho my date wasn’t there yet. I settled in and ordered a drink.
The waiter came by right away and took my drink order while I looked over the menu. I’d never been there before, but always wanted to. I was pleasantly surprised by a few items on the menu. French onion soup! Grilled artichoke! I’m not a big drinker… I like fruity girly mixed drinks and they offered a larger than average variety, which made me happy. Peach lemonade!
I got the chicken under a brick which was almost as good as I make it at home! A good litmus test. Polenta was perfect, drizzled with olive oil.
My date had the $ 18 Berger. He said it was delicious. It sure looked good and it was huge. My date has an enormous appetite but he almost could. nt finish it.
For dessert, we had the cider donuts which were, cute, fun and delicious.
The atmosphere was not what I expected… I thought it would be noisy and crowded with loud music. Nope. Lots of space between the tables, the music was slow jazz, not too loud and even when it got busier, we still felt like we had the place to ourselves.
The waiter was delightful. I can’t wait to go back again even if did smell a little funny. :)

Why all the hate?
Okay, so it was pretty dead and it does smell a little funny inside, but after a day of golf all I wanted was a drink and dinner. We got salads and a side of fries — the food was super fresh and delicious. Also, the bartender made sure our glasses were never empty. We had a very good experience there. I’d definitely come back if I was in the area.

Went to the MEt Bar for brunch. Arrived at 12:45 p.m. to find the doors locked without a sign posted or explanation. Sad. I heard good things.

I’ve been to the MET a couple times over the years, and went back this weekend with a gift certificate. I will not go back again. The waiter was horrid — so unfriendly (he barely said hello as he walked by, and that sort of fly by service went on all night) and he didn’t know anything about the drinks (I ended up with the blood orange drink — which was pretty bad — tasted like rubbing alcohol with some juice). We had the caesar salad, which was good, and then split the steak for two. The meat was cooked very well, and the popover served on the side was great, but the other sides weren’t very good — like the tomatoes (mealy, tough) and the watercress salad (also tough) and the potato fries (also tough… hmm, there is a pattern here).
I also didn’t like the smell of the place. I’m not sure why people go there or why it is still in business when the food is mediocre (especially for the prices) and the service is so bad.

Place is ok, I always just sit at the bar and they make decent martinis. The basics are good like the burgers but this place is nothin really special– decent

We come here once in awhile on the weekends. This place is good for some drinks and appetizers. Oysters are always fresh and they have a great selection of them — both West and East Coast. Kobe Miniwiches is a great choice as well. Tartare is nothing special, have had better. They have new dinner updated menu — from that menu we tried artichoke which was ok but wouldn’t ordet anymore. We always sit at the bar which has a nice vibe. I would not recommend this place for romantic dinner. The only thing that was very disappointing was their restroom. It seemed like that the doors have never been dusted, ever! It was pretty disgusting to see it in such a caliber lounge. I hope that management will see this review to keep their place more tidy and clean!!! For that reason I am giving 2 stars only. If I see any improvements next time, I will be happy to give higher rating and updated review.

I am going to keep this simple.
I went to the Met Bar today and they served me a complete RAW veal meatball. Raw, they seared the outside and the middle was raw. It was not rare, it simple was not cooked. Luckily I caught it before eating the rest (I did eat some of it). The manager was apologetic, but seriously, I expected more. Sadly disappointed, not sure if I’ll ever go back and that is saying a lot, I am pretty tolerant. I did see Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots… Big whoop. See you never Met Bar.

Service was pretty bad. Server was slow and wasn’t friendly.
Ordered the Veggi Omlete. Wasn’t event an Omlete. Just egg over BLAND BLAND BLAND veggies. Nothing special and not worth the price. It must suck to be a vegetarian and have to come to this place…

Went to one of the few places that do brunch in our area (kind of) and was pleasantly surprised. The menu was very well rounded, the drinks nicely made and the food very tasty. Our waiter was efficient and extremely pleasant. I would have expected this restaurant to be packed.

Despite this place’s current 2.5-star Unilocal rating, I had a lovely experience trying Met Bar for the first time.
My friend and I went around 5:30 on a Saturday. We had no reservation, but since the hour was fairly early the place was quiet and we were seated right away. Our waiter, Paul, was very attentive and nice without being overbearing, and he took the time to make sure we knew about all the specials and to answer our questions on the menu. Our appetizers were very tasty: my French onion soup had a delightfully cheesy, oniony flavor (though it could have stood for a higher soup to cheese/​bread ratio; as it was, I could practically eat it with a fork), and my friend’s grilled artichokes were really good, too. For entrees my friend had the short ribs, which were melt-​in-​your-​mouth tender, and my Kobe burger was insanely delicious and topped with fresh onion and bright red tomato. My one complaint was that it was not cooked quite as well as I generally like; I requested medium-​well, though it was still pink and a bit drippy in the middle. That may just be because it consisted of 14 crazy oz., so there was a LOT of meat to cook (in fact, I actually think the burger could stand to be a little smaller; I could only conquer about ²⁄₃ of it, and I have a very hearty appetite).
For dessert, we split a brownie sundae, which was a concoction of sweet delights, including a brownie that tasted like rich fudge and candied pecans atop mounds of fresh whipped cream and homemade ice cream. The best part was that our waiter did not rush us whatsoever (we were there for about two and a half hours), even when the place filled up as our meal wore on.
The total came to about $ 52 per person, which wasn’t bad considering we both also had drinks. If the urge to splurge hits again, I’d definitely come back here based on my first experience.

we stopped by the met tonight for burger monday and cocktails, and enjoyed both the food and the drinks. the bartender was attentive and friendly, and the service was just the right pace.
the burgers were $ 4.99 for 5 oz, and delicious. i ordered the dc, just a basic with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and my boyfriend ordered the manhattan with swiss, bacon, and mushroom. both were great — very juicy and served on a fresh sesame bun. we then followed the burgers with the hot chicken wings which were also very good, just enough spice, and the order was the perfect size to split between the two of us. i also appreciated that they were crispy rather than soggy like most places tend to be.
i also ordered the blonde orange cosmo and really liked it. it’s strong and sweet, and now one of my favorite cocktails.
if all of the food is as good as the burgers and wings that we had tonight, and the prices were only about ²⁄₃ of what they were, this would easily be a 5-​star review. i definitely will be back.

Either I went on a really good night, I was in an unusually good mood, or other reviewers have higher… star standards than I do.
The other possibility is that my expectations were low b/​c of my experience at the Met Bar in Back Bay. Nothing was wrong with the food or drink, in fact, they were delicious, but service was… snotty at the BB location.
My friends and I raved about the über-​yummy margarita tho. So, when we had a reason to celebrate, we decided to try this way-​more-​convenient-​to-​us location.
We were greeted warmly at the entrance and asked to make ourselves comfortable while they made sure our booth was all set for us. Our server came over quickly to take our drink orders and to tell us about their specials. He got all of our orders just right, and even had the kitchen split our plates (my friend and I shared two entrees… note to others– you only need to share ONE entrée between TWO people. The entrees are HUGE!!!)
We shared the turkey burger with aged gouda and sweet potato fries. YUM. Second entrée was the pressed brick chicken with cheesy-​polenta (aka… grits). Crispy and moist.. and perfectly cooked.
But the real star of the night? THE MARGARITAS. They are the best margs I have ever had. I’m going to try to not sound like a full out lush here, but I’ve had my fair share of margs. I typically prefer them frozen and fruity, but the regular, on the rocks marg here is perfect. PERFECTLY DELICIOUS.
Btw, sharing a pitcher of margs (prolly about 3 margs per person) and the two entrees… plus tip and tax came out to $ 40 per person. Not bad, if you ask me. And i’m a poor grad student.
ETA: came back again about a week later for more margs. Every single person working there was SO NICE, I thought I wasn’t in Boston anymore. The host remembered us and welcomed us back, our server was delightful and went above and beyond, and the margs were stellar. Such a treat at the end of a long week!

I have been coming to Met Bar for quite some time and each experience has been a good one. I’m not sure why it only has a few stars but everything from the bar menu to their dinner offerings is WONDERFUL!
I love the brick pressed chicken with polenta and there is a delicious salad on their bar menu that has avocado and chicken that is both healthy and filling.
The waitstaff is well versed on wine selection and specials. I will continue to come here and I love the complimentary valet service.

Sad.): We’ve been going here for many years, too many times to count. For the second time, we’ve had a waiter with an attitude, and for the third time, in spite of a bill that seems to be incrementally bigger for the same items, portions have been noticeably smaller. The food has come out tired looking, undercooked or overcooked, but mediocre either way. To make matters worse, they’ve stopped serving some of their best signature drinks (Toyko RIP) and their suggested replacements were watery, weak and way too sweet.
What happened? Did the owners change hands or do something drastic in an attempt to cut costs? Don’t think your customers aren’t noticing! In addition to an idle valet, the restaurant had many empty tables during prime time Saturday night, something we’ve not seen for over five years. Sad sad and sadder, as after three times of bad, we won’t likely be back.
