Stopped in for a new inner tube while riding on the Trolley trail to get to the Capital Crescent trail. Great service. Great location. They changed my tube and sent me on my way in 10 minutes. Very happy customer. Have used them before for minor repairs and always very pleasant.

A really good buying experience. Great, knowledgeable sales guy (Sam), good selection of kids bikes and a strong sense of on-​going support. Just what a good company/​store should be about.

The guy that run’s the shop is a complete jerk. I told him my issue with front de-​railer. He spun it in store with no pressure and said I didn’t know how to ride a bike or shift gears.
At least the mechanic test rode it noticed it had an issue and «fixed it» the 3^rd time. I rode off, still couldn’t get in big gear. Rode back, manger and his bad attitude told me more about how I didn’t know how to shift gears. Got on my bike while eating an apple then almost eat’s pavement when the chain slips and will not go in gear like I have been saying.
The WORST customer service, horrible attitude.

I stopped in to City Bikes after biking the Capital Crescent to Georgetown and back with a bike that had been in storage for a year or so. They helped fit me with a new seat & installed it and one of my tires popped right in the store (lucky me). They recommended new tires and when I came back to pick it up, helped me stow it on a bike rack I had recently installed on my car. Really appreciate them going out of their way to be so helpful and they are in a great location.

Stopped in while visiting from out of town. I’m an avid cyclist at home and the staff here were really helpful with the nearby trail system. Buddy, the head mechanic, was happy to talk shop and even helped pick up a couple small parts I’d been having trouble getting at home. Would highly recommend.

Updated to add that myself and City Bikes kissed and made up — they looked at my bike again this week and one $ 30 part and free labor and the bike is riding great again. So revising to 4 stars and appreciative of their willingness to make it right
Have had a good experience at this store before but no longer. Typical bike store BS.
I dropped my bike (Chevy Chase store) in about 10 days ago with two very specific issues:
1. I was having trouble shifting from my big ring down to my small ring and
2. There was a lot of creaking and noise emanating from by drivetrain /​bottom bracket
Having explained this to the bike tech, he popped by bike on a stand and without looking at either of my specific issues pronounced that I needed a new chain (true) and a new rear casette (in retrospect probably debatable although it was missing one «tooth» — BUT it had never caused me any shifting or riding problems).
Being a responsible rider and in preparation for a century in a few weeks I said, sure, replace the components but remember I really need you to look at the shifting and the drive train.
Picked up the bike a few days later right as the store was closing — asked the guy if he had looked at the shifting and or drivetrain and got this vague «yeah we looked at it but didn’t see anything major» but it was pretty obvious based on his reply that they hadn’t. Took my bike up to Vermont the next day and started riding only to discover I still had shifting problems and creaking sounds from my drivetrain.
So now I’m $ 150 in the hole and minus a Shimano Dura Ace rear cassette and feeling like some guy basically just wanted to sell me stuff instead of fixing the problems I went in for.
But the real kicker is their follow up customer service email which pledges that «if your experience was less than excellent please reach out to us by replying to this email we want to hear from you and make it right»…so I did reply, and the response? Crickets…

Every Bike Professional we came into contact with when we ordered the bike and came back to pick it up were very professional, courteous and very helpful. This is our 2^nd bike purchase in less than 18 months from City Bikes, Chevy Chase. They are keepers!

Hi, I haven’t ridden a bike in a LONG time. I owned one years ago and rode it in DC but gave it up because I had so many close calls. However, since DC has added designated bike lanes and has many miles of off-​road bike paths, I thought I’d be willing to try again. I didn’t have any idea how bikes have evolved since I rode one 15 years ago, so I thought a trip to a specialty store would be a good idea. Buddy was extremely helpful in this regard. He explained the different types of frames and handlebar positions (below the waist or at the waist) and what to consider for my occasional trips. He was enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, and encouraging as well. I appreciated the expert assistance and would recommend his services highly. Thx Buddy!

I was very pleased with my experience at City Bikes. I came in not really knowing what kind of bike I wanted, but the City Bikes employees helped me find the bike that was right for me. If I remember correctly, Cole was the one who helped me out the most. He seemed to really know what he was talking about. If you are in the market for a new bike, this is the place to go. Ask for Cole.
Side note: They threw in a great water bottle and pouch with the purchase!

Unilocal sent me here, and steered me clear of a closer bike shop with not-​as-​good reviews. Bike shops are like any specialty shops. I liken them to Guitar Center. Want to ask about a guitar on the wall? Stand in line and wait patiently while the 40 employees talk shop with the one musician customer they found worthy of attention… usually someone they know from the scene. Bike shops are the same way, and I fully expected to wait behind one douche in funny pants that show off his junk who’s whole life is cycling and wants to discuss the pressing matter of gear shift techniques on cross-​country competitive cycling. Not so, here. I was a little worried, particularly after the bad reviews on Unilocal,but I was pleasantly surprised.
I got a bike from Craigslist to commute to school and check out the cool DMV bike paths. I needed a shifter fixed, which they did in 3 minutes and at no charge (just needed lube). There was actually a couple ahead of me, but I got asked if I needed help three times. The third time it was from someone who was working at the repair shop and was able to circumvent the chatty couple. Then I wanted to set it up with fenders, a rack and a basket for my books. Got great advice, personal attention from Buddy (who obviously could talk shop with those whole-​lifers without skipping a beat) and fast service. Everything installed in a couple hours, and on a Saturday! Price was reasonable (I think), but most importantly, I didn’t get treated differently because I don’t know anything about bikes. Nobody pushed anything on me or tried to get me to upgrade. I see no reason why I wouldn’t go back to City Bikes for my biking needs. Thanks for the help!

I was in town for the weekend, my friends and I decided to go for a ride but during the ride my bike needed some quick repair. Rode over to CIty Bikes and it only needed a quick lube. Nick and Tom were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend them for anything bike related.

The store was busy today. When I first went in, no one helped me or even said hello. But again, they were really busy. I left and checked out another bike store. I realized I should probably go back to Citi Bikes. Good decision. This time, Same said he would get to me soon — instead Mark helped me. Mark is really young but he’s great. I’m honored that he helped me. He did not try to over sell me, although I managed to do that on my own. Mark’s knowledge and gentle personality put me at ease. I would encourage everyone to check out this store and ask for Mark.

I came in here looking for a brand new bike, having a sense of only my budget and my hope that I could find something to commute on. While I bike several times a week, the truth is that I don’t know all that much about bikes. Thankfully Mike did. He walked me through some options, explaining what they mean… bigger tires versus slimmer tires, flat handlebars versus drop handlebars. He taught me things about bikes while listening to my needs and hesitations. He got me up on several bikes to see how they fit me, how my posture looked… And then he said, «You know, I think I have just the bike for you.» And sure enough it was the one I ended up getting.
I’ve been riding it for almost a year now and am happy to report that I absolutely love it. It’s fast, comfortable, and dependable. Most of my riding is along DC streets, but it’s been equally enjoyable on trails. And oddly enough I’ve gotten multiple compliments on the bike. People say it’s a nice-​looking bike, and I have to agree.
A couple times now I’ve returned to City Bikes (once for a tune-​up and then to buy some gear). Mike again helped me, and I walked out happy!
The free water bottle is another nice touch.

I’ve been going to City Bikes Chevy Chase regularly ever since I had a series of terrible interactions at the Bicycle Place on Brookeville Road. Most recently, I brought in my beloved Specialized Tricross that had received extensive damage coming off my truck on the highway when my Honda dealer-​installed bike rack’s front strap snapped. Wayne (the owner, I assume) and Buddy (my mechanic) were amazing. Great, friendly service, several follow-​up calls to update me on the repair status, totally professional and knowledgeable responses to my questions, and a fully repaired bike at a reasonable cost in time for me to ride WABA’s 50 States event. This is a well run local bike shop that has earned my family’s business for years to come.

I brought in my 20 yr old road bike to have a frayed rear dérailleur cable replaced. I walked in at the shop’s opening on a Monday, expecting to have to leave it for a couple of weeks. But I was super happy when a sharp mechanic, Harley, took it right in and fixed it on the spot. Both he and the manager, Sam, also offered some good advice on how I can extend the life of my beloved, Italian steel ride by upgrading the nearly worn Campy power train. They seem to know their stuff when it comes to late-90’s Campy components.
The shop has free validated parking, opened their doors promptly at 10AM (as advertised), diagnosed the problem promptly, repaired it on the spot (fortunately for me — however, I don’t imagine that happens all the time), and sent me on my way a very happy customer. Prices seemed reasonable for this repair made on-​the-​spot at a retail store.
I have been to this shop periodically over the past several years for accessory purchases and an occasional tune-​up. They certainly seem to be keeping up their good reputation.

Came in to ask about a simple issue I was having with my bike. They were very unhelpful and basically called my PX 10 a piece of s**t saying that theres no way to fix the issue since its a vintage bike and that I’d be better off buying one of their overpriced bikes.

Good shop with knowledgable and friendly staff. They spend time to assess your needs and love talking about bikes. Seems like a great place for beginners and advanced riders.

After visiting the Capitol Hill and Adams Morgan stores, I came to this location where I finally found the Jamis Coda Sport in the size/​color combination that I had been searching for. Sam and the rest of the guys at the store were really cool, and helped me to get all setup and on my way with my new bike.
It was a little tricky to find the shop, since it isn’t visible from Connecticut Avenue. The entrance is actually in the rear of the bank/​office building at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Chevy Chase Lake Drive.
Overall, my experience at this store was pretty good. I would definitely come here in the future.
