I’m really surprised by the bad reviews. My experience has been great. In October 2014, I moved to DC and had a hard time finding someone who cut my hair well. However, all that changed when I got my hair cut by Diane at this salon(it is how she pronounces her name, but this is the incorrect spelling). She does an awesome job! I have gotten a facial and brow wax from Fatima — and she was great too. I really love the salon.

This place is the BIGGESTRIPOFF in town! I called to make an appointment to have a pedicure and manicure. I drove across town to the salon and by the time I had arrived, Fatima called me and advised me that she was booked and attempted to reschedule me. Since she did not have time to honor the appointment, I asked if could at least get a polish change. She was somewhat abrupt and impersonal. When I told her that I wanted a French manicure on my toes and hands and advised her that I wanted the line curved, she stared at me and said«I DONTKNOWABOUTTHAT!» I had on red toe nail polish before and she did not make sure that the polish was totally removed. I had to ask her to remove it, and ended up having to help remove it myself. When she completed my French manicure, she advised me that she does not use the brush to remove the polish around the edges or clean up the lines. I had white polish around my skin and the lines on some of my smaller toes were some what crooked. It didn’t look awful, so I did not complain. She treated me more like I was an imposition. This salon is unsanitary as I did not notice her use new files or clean materials. Salons that uphold sanitary practices DONOT reuse nail files as they are laden with bacteria. I sat in an uncomfortable wooden chair and had to prop my leg up, so that she could do my polish change. I cannot believe this place is called a spa! I was not offered a beverage, she did not put lotion on my hands or feet afterward, there was nowhere to place my handbag as I had to squeeze it on the side of the chair and then place it on the floor. At the end of my awful service, I was told that I had to pay $ 75.00 for a POLISHCHANGE!!! I said ABSOLUTELYNOT and made quite a fuss as I advised them that I did not come here to be RIPPEDOFF. They then agreed to reduce the price TO $ 55, FOR A SLOPPYPOLISHCHANGE! AVOID this place at all cost. I have never had an experience this awful!

I called to make an appointment for a facial/eyebrows to find out that my favorite Ivetta is not longer with this Salon. So I called another salon, Blue Water at Kensington, that I really love just to find Ivetta there! SO relieved that I get the best of both worlds, Ivetta and Blue Water.

I was a customer of Rainbow Salon that ultimately merged with The Salon and Spa at Saks FIfth Avenue. The managment and personnel at Rainbow Salon were superb. Manager Simin was outstanding, so much that she offerred to extend me the same rates at the new location for an indefinite time. Unfortunately, a lot of the personnel from Rainbow Salon have since vanished. The new general manager Ivetta is not only very unfriendly but also very unaccommodating. On my last visit a few months ago, she was so rude that I actually walked out. She then called me back and said that they will honor the old rates to me indefinitely. However, today, I was told that she made no such promise and that I now have to pay th 67% more in service fees as directed by the corporate office. That is fine. I will go elsewhere and I have since done exactly that. I’ve picked another salon that is not only far more superior in quality and service but also much less expensive.

This place was so disorganized when I walked in and the employees seemed to lack basic knowledge about their products. First of all, when I walk into a salon of this caliber, I would expect to be greeted and asked if I needed assistance. While three employees stood around and chatted, I wandered around trying to find a product and had to solicit their attention. They had an advertisement posted in their window for products to prevent UV damage for hair(which was my reason for coming into the salon). Mind you, this advertisement had been posted on their front window ALL summer. Maybe this is just a pet peeve of mine, as a consumer, but I find it highly annoying when employees have no idea about the displays in their own windows. I asked the woman about the UV hair products and she was quite rude and looked at me like I was nuts or something. It was a very strange exchange; she had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I told her I was looking for the UV hair products that were on display and finally led her to the window to point out the ones I was referring to. Then, she took me to a random aisle and picked up a product(which was NOT the same as the one in the window) and said that it was the same. It was not! I became frustrated and finally found the one I was looking for on my own and proceeded to the line only to see the other employees standing around or helping other customers even though I had entered the store first. I noticed a sign NEXT to the register that said all Sebastian products were all 10% off and I pointed it out to the woman at the counter showing her that my product was indeed a Sebastian product. Again, both employees had no idea what I was talking about! I could not believe it. I literally PICKED up the sign in front of their face and said it says sebastian products are all 10% off, seems pretty straightforward, right? She finally looked dumbfounded and quickly told me that the offer had«expired» but she would give it to me anyway. She made it seem like she was doing me a big favor when in fact the sign that was on the register next to the counter said all sebastian products were 10% off and if the offer had truly expired(which I think she was just saying this to make up for her lack of knowledge), they should have then removed the sign! I know this sounds like a bratty post but I am so tired of incompetence and indecent customer service. It drives me crazy when I go into the store because I saw an ad in the window and everyone looks at my like I am speaking Chinese. This is especially disheartening considering it was my first time ever into the salon and because this ad has been up all summer!

I only went here for a facial to treat myself once, but now that I know how cool the owner/manager is and how knowledgeable, I will be back. The set up is more of a hair salon than a day spa, but the front desk is friendly and efficient and the prices are slightly less than Red Door, where the personal attention seems to be waning lately. They validate parking and the lot is right out front. I also already use their product line(Skinceuticals & Murad), so I know those are good as well. If you want really personal attention, I highly recommend trying them at least once.
