Not your hipster artisan bakery, but a good cottage style bakery. This place has amazing breads and cinnamon rolls. Their new bulk food area is pretty stand out, especially for price!

This is probably the BEST bakery to date(sorry to say I know my bakeries) there is. It’s a bit hidden, not on the main drag, and I think they are ONLY open Friday and Saturday but if you are lucky… it’s worth it. The Breads are FABULOUS!!! The popcorn?? yes popcorn is FABULOUS! The pies and FRESH Amish made butter?.What? Yes, FABULOUS. may be a Amish owned bakery. Why we can’t get a bakery like that in Seattle??? The pies and bread freeze very well. I usually drive there and stock up.

I am so impressed both with the quality and price of all that The Bread Box offers. And it was refreshing to find a bakery where, when I complained that the cinnamon rolls had no nuts in them, they said«We can make them that way for you, if you order ahead.» Wow. I’ve made that complaint in other establishments & no one ever said that before. Their breads are delicious. I particularly like the whole wheat made with molasses. And I love the Mennonite coffee they offer along with other specialty items in addition to the wonderful baked goods. One last note: Not everyone knows that The Bread Box also offers a wide array of tasty desserts in addition to «bread» items.

A sweet, family run bakery. They have excellent breads, cookies, and sweet rolls. Reasonable prices and the service is excellent.

Chewelah has so many places and qualities that I love and the Bread Box is definitely one of those places. We were first introduced to this wonderful bakery last year when we went out for a wedding. Their sour cream twists with a cup of hot coffee may be the best breakfast ever. Or a slice of their pie with coffee. During our first visit to Chewelah, an item from the Bread Box was present at almost every meal. Sour cream twists for breakfast, sandwiches made from their delicious bread(I’m a sucker for their oat bread), pull apart rolls with supper, pies after every dinner and a red velvet cake to celebrate a beautiful marriage. Not once was I disappointed. Now whenever we go back to Chewelah, my boyfriend and I are greeted by Bread Box items filling his ma’s refrigerator. This last time, we wanted to share their goods with some friends back in LA and stopped at their stall at the Chewelah Farmers’ Market to pick up some twists, bread and a pie. A friendly Mennonite family runs the bakery and we could tell they are a staple in the Chewelah community. The woman was pleasant, warm and thanked us for our compliments. You have no idea how hard it was to not eat the baked goods we brought home for our friends. That three hour layover in Seattle was almost the end of those twists but we refrained and know our friends will enjoy them just as much as we do. Take the short trip from Spokane and come visit Chewelah. While you’re there, take home some amazing baked goods from the Bread Box. You definitely won’t regret it!

This family run bakery offers many delicious treats made by hand with lots of love. It’s a must-stop-shop in Chewelah. You won’t be disappointed with the goodness found here. I was greeted by the Mennonite family as I entered the bakery. It felt as though I stepped into someone’s living room — someone’s carb-wonderland living room. Some of my favorite items included: soft Garlic loaf, Cinnamon Raisin Bread, and Sour Cream Pullaparts. I’d love to try their pies next time I’m in town. I found out that the owners suffered incredible tragedy in their lives and they are able to run this new shop with grace and faith. I hope that the community and tourists like me continue to show their bakery some love! It’s definitely worth it.
