As much as I wanted a Polish Buffet close to work, miss the old Tatra Inn. This place missed the mark and now is closed.

I have to go back because the last 2 times I went the staff was rude and the place was near empty, but they make the most KILLER mushroom soup I’ve ever had!

I’m bored at work so hey this will be my first review! After telling myself for a couple years, «Man, I gotta try that place,» I finally did. Food 5 stars. Ambiance –1 star. The description of this place is accurate by Mike O. Its probably safe to say most of the business is made as a reception hall. The ambiance inside is kind of strange; I had the feeling of dining alone in a giant, dimly lit, empty hall. When my wife and I arrived, we were the only other couple dining. By the time we left, there were a total of six tables occupied. Towards the front(entrance) there are about 6 large tables capable of seating maybe 10 people(your typical large round banquet hall tables). Then there’s a small dance floor maybe about 20×20 foot. Then several smaller tables accommodating 2−4+. Then its the food bar. I think there were only 2 people working this joint – the man who seated us and tended to the tables, and the woman who worked the kitchen and refreshed the entrée bowls. Probably a husband/wife duo. He was not very chatty/almost stern but he spoke fluent Polish to all the other Polish speaking patrons so I’m sure it was more of a language barrier. Not a big deal to me. Even though my description may make this place sound bad, its really good food. There just isn’t any hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant. You really are eating in a banquet hall with a handful of other people. Before I begin to critique the food and service, I want everyone to keep in mind their typical Chinese buffet experiences, or even an Old Country Buffet – cuz this isn’t it. There were ample choices from the tables as well as two soups and a small dessert selection. Everything was HOT and in moderate to small quantities. This may be contrary to your bigger buffets where everything is large quantities, a hundred people slopping through the same dish, and its barely to temperature. It annoyed my wife, and me too, when a couple things ran out… but then I had a change of heart. Sure we had to wait 10 minutes or so for a couple things to be refilled but people listen up – it was FRESH from the kitchen. Everything is made fresh and replaced in small batches. The quality of the food was incredibly good. The potato pierogi were in my opinion possibly THE best I’ve ever eaten. Everything I had was really good. I sampled: potato pierogi, meat pierogi, real mashed potatoes, dumplings, potato pancakes, pork loin in a brown gravy, meatballs with dill sauce, stuffed cabbage, and probably a couple other things I can’t remember. There was breaded pork cutlets, ribs, cheese pierogi, a breaded chicken breast with a light colored gravy, smoked sausage, baby red potatoes, chicken noodle soup, cream of mushroom soup, and probably a dozen things I didn’t mention. The dessert/fruit/salad options were few but good enough to satisfy. Weekend prices were(99% sure) $ 11.99 and weekday $ 8.99 minus drinks. We went on the weekend so I’m unsure if the menu changes during the week. It also looked like you can get your buffet to go using a scale to weigh your food. Not sure what the price per pound is. I did compliment the owner on the food and he perked up with a very thick accent. He asked me «mowimy popolsku» and I said no. He smiled and started to small talk with me in broken English. I told him I was of Polish decent and began asking about my family. He proudly pointed to a giant mural on the wall and told me it was where he was from. He was very friendly after I approached him so if anyone thinks they aren’t friendly I’m sure its simply a language barrier. If you can forgive the odd setting I’m sure you’ll enjoy the food. After all, that’s what you came here for, right? You can go to Mabenka for your Polish ‘restaurant’ fix or you can come here and get a huge variety for the price you’d pay for a plated serving. Give this mom n pop operation a try. I would totally go back even with the small waits on food and I wouldn’t hesitate to have them cater a family event. We are expecting our first baby soon so we may just do that :)

The food was good, but as one reviewer said they just don’t replenish the food enough. They should just become a regular polish restaurant where you order something from the menu, so you can get what you want and not worry that they will be out of it, since they just don’t have enough business to do a buffet. Maybe the owner will read this and consider that. I also think this location is bad and if this was south down Harlem, it would do way better where more people tend to shop and live– it is in an unknown area.

I stopped in the computer store next door and of course noticed the buffet sign. It was about six PM and the place was empty. Good selection of standard buffet items. Pleasant service.

A very quiet little place. But they serve very authentic and fresh Polish food on their buffet. You look in the kitchen here and there are three little women wearing babushkas cooking(I am not kidding). They do have an assortment of drinks here made from liquors I cannot even pronounce, and four different kinds of imported Polish beer. I guess they also rent the place out for weddings, showers, and parties. And on Saturday nights they pull out the DJ for Euro-Techno dance night. Honestly, I’m afraid you won’t get me there for that– I’ll take a pass.) And next door is a little shop that sells all kinds of Polish food. It’s kind of fun to try to guess what is in each package! And they also have a good deli– Can’t get enough head cheese and vinegar!

This place is a combo Polish buffet restaurant and a Polish deli. The place is a quiet relaxing little place. There is never a crowd there as I have never seen more than a handful of tables occupied. They prepare thier food in small batches and are constantly keeping it fresh. I have gone to too many buffets where the food looks like it has been setting awhile during their non-peak hours. The place is kept very clean and the service is typically friendly. The polish food has been somewhat Americanized which is their only downfall but they have a good variety and it is always kept fresh on the buffet line.
