So this spring I bought my first home. Exciting hu? I’m all doe eyed, and full of pep and sweat equity. I’ve been watching the home and garden channel, and am ready to turn my little Pilsen/Little Village fixer uper into a first rate man castle. Except for one little problem, or actually hundreds of thousands of little problems, termites. I didn’t buy a house I bought a brick box built around at least three full blown termite cities. The house was almost completely eaten with termites and inspectors didn’t catch it. I am full on screwed, until I met Isaac Rodriguez, owner of Amazon Roofing and Masonry. I met him almost a year before because he was working on the porch right next to the apt I lived in. I rebuild motorcycles and he was all about asking questions because he wanted a bike himself. After I found out about my termite issues, I called him because I wanted the advice of somebody I already knew(there are a lot of shady dudes in Chicago you know!) Anyway he agreed to help me out. He would do some structural work, put on a new roof, and do some masonry work too, and all he promised within the budget I had to work with. Wellll, he did put on a roof which has not leaked yet, and after months of harassment he finished the structure work at a cost of $ 5,000 more than we agreed on in the first place. However, he left never to return, and stopped returning phone calls after he got all the money in my repair budget. In fact he owes me $ 2,500 for electrical work that he swore up and down he had a permit for, but when I checked with the city of Chicago, they had never head of him. No permit had ever been pulled so I had to get someone else to do it, and he has ignored all my requests for a refund on the work they didn’t do. So as my first Unilocal commentary I would ask that you not only do not use Amazon Roofing for your roofing and or masonry and or home is about to collapse around your ears style projects, but that you give this gentleman Isaac a call and and ask him to please give back Quinton his $ 2,500. I could use that money on other things right about now. Like on a kitchen, or on a toilet you don’t need to flush with a garden hose!
