Amish & Healthy Foods

The owner of this place Lyudmila Firov is very rude at times. It is fine that you are trying to sell healthy foods but if you keep treating customers like people worried about what they touch like a museum you are not going to have much business from me or hopefully anyone else. I came to buy duck eggs just to find out they are out of it. She seems very unenthusiastic really assisting customers. I would rather find another business that does sell Amish or organic places that sell what I need similar to this but I hate to come here with this rude Russian woman’s attitude if this is how you behave back in your old country.

I started getting ducks eggs from the lsq farmers market but I can’t make it every Sunday so I needed to find another place to acquire them; and also they didn’t have them every weekend either. The Internet lead me to this little store and it’s amazing! You can choose from single or double yolks and let’s be real, why get one when you can have two? I also like to get chicken necks and backs to make stock. I’ve also gotten whole chickens here too. They have quality meat here that comes from a farm. They have produce too. I think their deliveries come on Wednesdays. One of the times I went I think one of the owners (woman) was talking to what I assume a regular customer while checking out and she said oh you’ll just owe me $ 7 next time. They must have some long standing relationships with their customers if they take IOU’s, and that says great customer service to me!

I’ve been going here for awhile and if you’re looking for organic fresh and hard to find foods then this is the place. The staff are very nice people and will order something for you if they don’t have it.
Good raw honey, milk, butter, and cheeses are not easy to find so this place is great if your into raw foods and a mostly chemical free diet.
This place is a little out of the way for me but it’s worth it and it’s better then driving to Indiana where the farm is to buy this stuff. Sometimes parking can be a problem but they’re working on getting more parking space I’ve been told.

This place had good food from Amish farms of Indiana.
I only bought a few snacks but I will definitely return.
It recently expanded too from last time I patronized the establishment.

I can’t wait to come back to this place. I was intrigued by the amish nature of the products, so I went in today and got the yummiest hummus. Plus, the worker who helped me out was super cute and nice. Cute place — i’ll be coming back for their butter and goat milk products! Good pricing too (huge stick of butter for $ 6)

I wish this place had better parking. Very good selection and very fresh food. I would go here all the time if they were closer to me! I love the freshness of everything and the fact that they pick up from the farm every week is awesome!

Very reasonable pricing. Duck eggs, raw honey, organic cocoa, raw milk, raw butter,…are all worth the nutrition and cheaper than all other places I’ve been.
Their milk does finish in 3 days after they stock it on a Wednesday.

This place does not need another 5 star review, but they deserve it so! It’s great to find a health food store that’s not ran by weird pseudoscience wizards, marking up prices with false health claims and attempting to convince me that fluoride is the road to tooth disease. Turn off the Mercola and steer me to the apples, man!
Owners a sweet lady, and if the younger guy from California is still working there, you have my sincerest props. They’re both very informative of their products, keep them at a reasonable price, and actually visit the amish farm they buy their products from. The guy was telling me he saw the farmers harvesting the maple water they carry from trees. I thought that was pretty neat, and it shows a level of commitment tha I respect and kept me coming back weekly –until I moved from the neighborhood :(.
Anyway, there jerky is amazing. And yes, the other reviews were speaking truth… DUCK EGGS. Even a substantial amount of double duck eggs. Freaking huge. Who knew there were so many duck twins out there.

I went here for the first time today and it was such a pleasant experience. The store is small but has a good array of organic products. We were also able to get grass fed meat at a reasonable price. The store itself had hard wood floors soft lighting and an open floor plan. So much better than the linoleum floors and halogen bulbs of major supermarkets. Overall this was a great experience.

This Ukrainian family-​owned store has become my home away from home. I love Lucy *the owner* and how committed they are to carrying quality organic food at a fair price. They have fresh produce delivered every Tuesday so I recommend waiting until then or mid-​week to get your goods. Top-​notch service and quality.

Since the birth of our son, AHF became our neighborhood go-​to spot for everything baby: from goat milk to spirulina. Priced very reasonably for a small shop, it provides a good value at our fingertips. This is a small business that things big while staying connected to the community. Best picks: farm fresh eggs, mini apple pie, raw peanut butter, salt/​pepper sausage.

Great family owned business. They head out to the farms weekly and do pickups on Wednesday (I think) so that is usually the best day to go. For being a small store they have a lot to offer from meets, milk products, veggies and shelf items. Super friendly staff and quality food make it a stable in my house.

I love this place as I can get quality /​non-​gmo food and know that what I’m getting. Props to them for providing Chicago with a place to get the nutrition that keeps us alive and healthy.
You can either pay a little more money for quality food, or pay the doctor when you are sick.

This is a great gem in the ukranian village neighborhood. They have REAL FOOD. Good food with no junk (no antibiotics, hormones, GMOs, etc.). This food is hard to find. Whole Foods serves lots of GMOs both in produce and animals fed GMOs. Not Amish Healthy Foods. Also, great diary products. Unique ones.
The owner is very informed about food and what real food lovers are looking for. She is very friendly and helpful. Great Salt of the Earth person.

I adore this place, and am so glad it’s right around the corner from my apartment. The staff is incredibly nice, and everything is reasonably priced, particularly for the quality and sourcing. Their raw honey is significantly cheaper than Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, and I can’t think of another place in the city where you are guaranteed to find duck eggs and RAW MILK.
Raw milk, you guys.
It’s worth noting that eggs are delivered on Wednesday, so if you stop in on Tuesday, you might be out of luck. Oh well, you’ll just have to come back another time!

Darwin’s eggs
You know who gives birth to multiples? Well, yes, humans who get fertility treatments. But outside of that? Creatures that have been nutritionally happy for consecutive generations. I mean, yes, dogs and cats and ducks have litters, sure. But *twins*? That only happens when the animals have been food-​and-​shelter-​and-​environment secure from mother to daughter to daughter – *then* nature says, «Yeah, you’re ready to raise bunches of offspring.»
So what does this have to do with Amish Foods?
Buy some of their double-​yolk duck eggs and you’ll know exactly what it means. These things aren’t just a fluke of nature – they’re some of the most spectacular eggs you’ll ever eat. Sous vide them at 143 degrees for nine hours, and the yolk is like custard.

This shop sort of reminds me of a real Amish store back in Pennsylvania where I grew up, only with about one-​tenth of the selection and double the prices. But it’s still a nice option to have in a big city like Chicago.
I wouldn’t get meat, produce, or bulk items here, but some of the baked goods are highly worthwhile. However, my favorite thing on offer here is a brand of pickles called E & S Sales, two varieties of which, the Zesty Bread & Butter and the Sweet Hot Dill, require me to add this location as a regular stop on my pickle-​acquisition rounds.

I adore this place.
Fresh eggs, fresh bread, raw milk, organic, grass-​fed, free-​range, local everything you could want! Best carrots in the city are hiding in this little market! And the ladies who run the place are fantastic. Every time I walk in here, I end up buying at least 2 things more than I need. They put out free samples of dried goods or the latest in their collection of nutritious snacks.
And the chocolate milk! There are no words.
Just go there. It’s tiny, but it’s mighty and full of delicious things.

I know you are like me, you wake up on a Sunday morning, craving duck, but are unwilling to face the lines for brunch at Longman & Eagle and its duck egg and duck hash — last year there were no lines but now there are — but you need duck — I know, I know, I need it like you do, my child, so what do you do, what will fill your craving?
The Amish, will, my child, the Amish will.
For they have duck eggs, and duck eggs in volume, with, dare I say, double yolk in single eggs. I cannot say whether such a phenomenon is legal or valid but it is, I tell you, it is DELICIOUS. And if you feel you cannot handle the rush at Longman, and I tell you truly that I share that feeling, be sure to stop by here earlier in your weekend so that it shall not be free of duck. Fry those duck eggs up in your castle, sprinkle them with exotic salt and pepper, and Louisiana hot sauce, and wash them down with bourbon.
Their duck eggs are fantastic, and, at 50 cents a receptacle, a devilish bargain. Deliciously cooked a very, very soft sunny side up, with a smattering of foreign salt and a heaping of Lousiana hot sauce, paired with bacon, avocado, and a generous slice of the butter purveyed by Amish Healthy Foods. Their butter is rich, creamy and faintly felonious.
Do not stop there, for they have buffalo heart and a multitude of varieties of offal and other rare cuts. I look forward to searing my buffalo heart and channeling its spirit throughout Logan Square; you will undoubtedly find your own backyard similarly blessed.

This is an odd little place. First, it’s called «Amish Healthy Foods.» The name alone is what got me to stop in after I saw the storefront while driving down Western Avenue. I wasn’t aware that the Amish people have a particularly healthy diet; they eat a lot of fat, carbohydrates, and animal proteins. But, of course, the name of the store is supposed to imply that the food is produced by Amish people, and that the food is healthy.
A very nice Ukrainian lady was working in the store when I stopped in. First, she asked if I’d ever been in the store before. When I said no, she said first-​timers get an automatic 15% discount. Then she asked if I would like a cheese sample. Wow! Discount and free food? Yeah, sure!
By this time, another customer had come in the store. The clerk cut us both slices of 3 different cheeses that were stored in the large walk-​in refrigerator at the back of the store. I ended up buying some of the yogurt cheese, and it is delicious. I forget what the 2^nd one was, but it was good, too. I wasn’t crazy about the 3^rd one, a dill cheese, but that was only because I don’t like dill. If you like dill, you’ll probably like this cheese.
There are jams, jellies, meats, snacks, and lots and lots of cheese There were a couple jams, including a gooseberry jam, available for sampling, and that tasted good, too. I ended up buying a bag of Honey Mustard & Onion Sourdough Pretzel Pieces. It is good. It cost $ 6.76 a pound.
The thing that really bothered me, though, and the reason I don’t rate this store with a 4^th star, is something the clerk said to the other customer. The other customer asked her, what’s the difference between «natural» and «organic?» The clerk said, there really isn’t any difference. OOOPS! There is a huge difference between natural and organic. Organic foods have to meet strict USDA standards to be called organic. There are absolutely no standards for calling a food product «natural.» I could wrap up my poop in a baggie and put it up for sale as a «natural» product and be fully within legal standards. But it wouldn’t meet the standard of organic.
The clerk’s statement made me wonder if anything in this store really is organic. If a product doesn’t meet the high standards of truly «organic» meat, cheese, jams, or pretzels, then the customer is paying some awful big prices for something you could get at Aldi for a whole lot less $$. Until the owners of this store can certify, 100%, that their products meet the «organic» standards, buyers should beware.
