Ashland Lock & Security Solutions

I am a landlady with several buildings so I frequently have lock problems. I can always count on Ashland Lock for honesty and helpful guidance. On numerous occasions Joe has walked me through an installation or repair of a lock I was not familiar with in order to save me from a costly service call. Definitely two thumbs up.

We have been use the services of Ashland Lock and Door for many years at our dental office. They have helped us with frozen locks, failing door hydraulic closers, and lock replacement. Most recently they placed a continuous hinge on the main door of our business which was much cheaper than replacing the entire door. Always prompt, clean, and professional. Very satisfied.

We recommend Ashland Locksmith, they run a very good operation and are a professional company. The locksmith, Steve, did an excellent job both fixing our problem and explaining what solutions we needed for our home.

Our condo association was introduced to Ashland lock during the turnover from Ranquist Development in 2005 and since then both the Association and individual unit owners have been using Ashland. Their salespeople and lock professionals are the best. But the inventory manager, Dave, makes it so unpleasant to work with them on larger jobs that we’ll be finding another locksmith. He must think they’re the only game in town.

I have had Medco locks on my door for years. Great locks! I’ve had to get keys made, they keep a file, etc. In any event, I had a thumb turn come off this week on my Medco lock. Not a big deal as the lock worked from the outside, but I don’t know how to fix that. Instead of sticking me $ 130 for a service charge, Dave, walked me over the 5 minute (at most) over the phone. Honest. Great customer service.

Absolutely horrible customer service. I scheduled my appointment 5 days in advance. They asked me to send over loads of pictures of all my locks in advance, which I was happy to do. Then about 2 hours before the appointment they canceled on me for another customer. They claimed they didn’t realize how big the job was, but I was very clear that it would take multiple hours and even sent them a pictures of everything in advance. I called to complain to the manager, and he was smug and unapologetic. I would recommend using a lock smith that actually takes pride in their customer service

Would recommend to anyone. Easy to schedule, arrived on time and David was friendly and very helpful. Would happily use again.

Getting locked out of your house is a pretty stressful situation, but getting locked out of your garage is a Andrew Jarecki-​interviewing-​Robert-​Durst stressful situation. Thankfully this kid named David came to my rescue and was able to not only pick the emergency lock on my garage door in minutes, but he also made me a key copy so I don’t have to worry about it again moving forward.
He was there in a flash and this wiz kid far surpassed what I was expecting him to do. The staff at Ashland Lock is incredibly friendly, professional, and understanding. Similar to Peter Piper I’d recommend Joe (Store Manager) Anne, (Owner) and David to anyone in a pickle or lock that needs to be picked.

Came here to get a spare key for my motorcycle. There are apparently locksmiths who don’t offer service for motorcycle keys. Took advantage of the reasonable prices and got spare keys. Joe? Was friendly and guarantee the service.

I have never been so insulted by one individual. David Crawford is honestly the worst person I’ve ever had to deal with in my entire life. He has the attitude of a child and somehow he gets away with it! Its clear that the owner knows how much of a jerk this guy is yet he still continues treating his customers like they are unimportant. Go read the other Unilocal reviews about him!
I will admit to being a bit rude and in a hurry with him but that is no excuse for me to call me a bi**h to my face! How can anyone allow him to continue like this! Dave has the mindset that you are not worth his time and he’s unwilling to help you if there is not something in it for him, news flash, it’s your job!
My house and been burglarized and I came to get some help. I was the only customer there and I could see him sitting At his desk on his phone, he told me «I’ll be right with you» and I waited a good 3 minutes for him to get up. I told him about the break in and showed him a few pictures, he couldn’t have seemed less interested because he kept looking at his phone! In the middle of our conversation he beguine to do push-​ups, telling me he’s still listening.
Bottom line, If you go to AshlandLock and you see him coming to help you tell him you will wait for someone who is complainant and that cares!

The company I work for primarily sends us here to fulfill our duplicating key needs.
Quick and painless; staff was incredibly pleasant. Overall a good experience, despite the fact a minor task such as getting a key made can be on the lower portion of someone’s to-​do list.
Will not mind coming here again in the near future.

Horrible customer service! They re-​keyed my new condo and pointed out that the top lock needed to be replaced. It would be in within 3 weeks. One month later, and no call, I had to call multiple times. Finally, I spoke with Dave, the manager. He apologized and said Dave (also the name of the technician) would be over at 9 am the next day. At 9:30 am, when no one arrived, I had to call back. The manager had never put it in the schedule and spoke to me in a highly condescending tone and offered one of the most insincere apologies. I’d rather pay more money and receive proper treatment. I would highly recommend NOT using their services.

There is not other place in Chicago that you should go to get keys made. They are guaranteed to work every time.

I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. I agree that the locksmith showed up on time and resolved the issue quickly. I have issue with the fact that they charged me $ 85 travel fee (where most companies charge $ 40 – 50), making my 20 minute appointment total well over $ 200 (!!). I also bear issue with the fact that they waited almost 3 weeks to charge my credit card and still haven’t provided me with a receipt for this transaction. Shady.

Great service! David was very professional and was able to schedule an appointment at a convenient time. Replaced my old locks with a much improved product. They have reasonable rates and I would highly recommend them.

Definitely earned my repeat business and referrals. I don’t get keys made often but I lost my motorcycle key, and had the code for it from the manufacturer. Called around and no one was as help as the gentleman that answered the phone here. Patient and researched to make sure he could help me before I came in. Was very straight about results. Brought in the code. Had the key made in just a couple minutes when other places said it would take 5 – 10 days to make a coded key. Took it home and my bike started right up. I’m on my way bike now to get more copies made.

These guys are the best and the ONLY people we use for any and all lock and security issues. Steve just did a great job repairing and replacing old locks and updating hardware. 5 Stars

After attempts at getting duplicate keys at both Home Depot and Menards with no luck, Ashland Lock saved me! It was an older key from my father’s house and we desperately needed to get other copies made. It was nice to go into this small shop and helped out right away. I was also reassured that if I had any problems with the key they would refund me.
There is something to be said for the smaller places that are experts in a specific discipline. I will return. Two copies of this key cost me almost $ 7.

My building buzzer was screeeeeeching and the lock release wasn’t working properly. I called Ashland because the reviews looked mostly quite good.
Joe took my call and was very friendly, Seth arrive that afternoon and assessed that we needed some part he had to pick up the next morning. He was really friendly and efficient and now my buzzer as well as door strike are working perfectly!

This is my first ever negative review on Unilocal.Given my interactions with this business though, it is warranted.
I used this place about 3 years ago to replace my locks. They were capable and did a good job.
More recently however, I contacted them for a bigger job; replacing two doors in my condo that opened up to public hallways. I decided to go into the store to discuss what my options would be. I know the basics about doors and locks, and by no means am an expert. I got the impression that the employee I spoke with was, but just was not interested in giving me concrete answers. When asked about the different strengths of dead bolts, doors, strike plates, I received vague and ambiguous answers.
Nevertheless, I decided to pursue an estimate. A gentleman came out to measure my doors, check the frame, etc. I proceeded to SPECIFICALLY tell him what type of dead bolt I would like and that I wanted to keep my old door knob. When the estimate came back almost one week later however, none of this was on there. They included prices for things I never asked for, and did not include prices for things I did ask for. I am a calm guy though, so I just figured it was a communication break down. I emailed the person who sent me the estimate, only to receive no response.
I decided to further waste my time by showing up at the store on one of my days off. My interaction with the older gentleman in the store was one of the top 3 uncomfortable, comedic, and ironic exchanges I have ever had. I told him about my estimate, how I was unhappy with certain aspects of it, and he proceeded to say what a «bummer» this was. When I asked pointed questions like, «what are my other options for deadbolts, strike plates, doors, etc.» it was as if he was as high as Jerry Garcia at Woodstock.
What kills me is I was looking to spend at least $ 2k on new doors, and as much as $ 4k. Yet they acted as if I were asking them for a favor. Unbelievable.
If you want your locks changed, they can probably handle that. Any bigger job, do what I did and call the people at Anderson Locks. Prompt, they listen, have better prices, and are aware that professionalism is an important trait when you are trying to sell a service or product.
