Why private training?

In a class, your dog may be perfect, but your home and neighborhood are where training counts. That is where training should happen. If your dog becomes anxious, excited, fearful or aggressive near other dogs and people, a class setting will only serve to get your dog used to seeing specific dogs on a weekly basis. Training in your dog’s normal surroundings allows for real-life training, each time. Not to mention that even the most dedicated guardian finds themselves missing a class or having a demanding week and not getting through their homework. Personalized sessions in familiar environments provide quicker results.

We train where you need it and know that EVERY dog and human combination is different; we enjoy training the human end of the leash as much as teaching your four-legged best friends.

History

Established in 2006.

Barker Behavior was launched to help Chicagoland and North Shore humans and their canines form a stronger bond through positive reinforcement. We teach our clients how to understand their dog and kindly become the leader of the home. Our goal in training is to have our clients relish and enjoy their furry best friends as much as possible. And, we are all just as passionate about helping you and your dog (s) as the day we began!

Meet the Business Owner

Brandi B.

Business Owner

With the last name «Barker», Brandi was destined to work with dogs! A lifelong animal lover; she formally began training dogs in 2001 when she completed her apprenticeship at the Anti-Cruelty Society. In the classroom, she honed her interpretation of canine body language, developed a toolbox of effective behavior modification techniques and fine-tuned her communication skills with dogs and people while only using reward-based techniques. Brandi completed her Master’s degree at DePaul University in Developing Behavior Management Practices to Enhance Understanding in Human/Animal Relationships and is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer. Brandi’s unique achievements gave her a solid foundation in animal learning theory, ethology and operant and classical conditioning. She uses this knowledge in conjunction with the active listening, relationship development and creative problem solving skills she acquired from a decade in the corporate world.
