Everything from Blum animal hospital is great from the vets to the front desk staff. My beagle and I were new patients there a couple weeks ago, and from the first phone call to make the appt, to the nice thank you letter we received from Dr Cohen, everything was handled with great customer service. This is how you treat people! Everyone at the desk is super friendly and sweet. I will be telling everyone I know to bring their furry loved ones here for sure. Thanks for great service :)

Hands down best vet I have ever been too. The doctors and nurses take a huge deal of time to hear you out and make you feel comfortable. They remember your situation and animals every time time I go and it make you feel so well taken care of. Great great people.

I cannot express the love and gratitude I feel for Blum Animal Hospital and especially the wonderfully talented Dr. Marks. Blum has a great facility and staff dedicated to treating furry families. They are very accommodating and are very thorough in their explanations of problems, concerns and praise. Our furry babies were tipping the scale and after close to a year of the feeding methods Dr. marks suggested they are back to a healthy weight. Our little ones recently were sick with a virus and Dr. Marks and her team were there to help. She didn’t say «just wait and see» she gave them attention and care and told us what to look for and what to do in those situations. She was very conscious that often financial concerns, although we wish they wouldn’t, can dictate how to move forward and worked with us so we didn’t spend money needlessly. She and her techs are very aware of one of our little ones «issues» she’s a bit wonky and are understanding when she acts strange or does not cooperate. They comforted me when I hated seeing them use needles on my cats and were very quick at doing so as to cause less discomfort. Overall, there’s a reason they’re rated so highly so consistently and I cannot imagine bringing my fury family anywhere else.

I have taken all of my animals to Blum and have been extremely satisfied. It may not be the cheapest vet, but I can tell that the staff are quite knowledgeable (especially regarding specific breeds of dogs).

I’ve been deciding to write this review for a couple of months. These vets were always very nice to my animals and myself. However I had to put my cat down and while they were very kind about it the next week I received a bill for almost $ 600. I don’t understand this! I brought in my animal to be put down and you give me a bill for $ 600? This is ridiculous! How is this right ?? After getting this bill I very quickly change my veterinary choice to Wicker Park veterinarian where they are just as kind and I feel more upfront

When I adopted Charlotte I asked my dog walker and other dog owners in the area for vet recommendations. Everyone seemed to say the same thing — McKillip or Blum. Since Blum was noted as being a bit on the pricier end, I ended up taking Charlotte to McKillip. McKillip was fine initially, but I always felt like they were pitching things that just weren’t necessary. That it wasn’t the dogs best interest that they had in mind, but rather how much additional money they could tack on to the base appointment fee. The final straw came when Charlotte was sent home after surgery with no pain killers. She cried the entire night, and when I went to McKillip the next day clearly enraged, the owner of McKillip said that «mistakes happen»…that I was overreacting. Charlotte was fine, he said. I’m sorry, but were you up all night as she whimpered in pain that I was unable to manage? I left McKillip that day and never returned.
I have taken Charlotte to Blum ever since and cannot say enough good things about the vets and staff. Dr. Evans and Dr. Georgesen are great! They truly care about Charlotte and not once have I felt that they are trying to push unnecessary procedures. In fact it’s been the exact opposite. As Charlotte has gotten older, a few lumps and bumps have appeared. This is common with basset hounds. A few have had to be removed due to location but Dr. G has suggested leaving the others as is since they aren’t interfering with her mobility and/​or causing any discomfort, and because we’ve had a few tested along the way and all have been benign. Her feeling is — Why put the dog under anesthesia and spend the money if it’s not really necessary? This would never have been the case at McKillip.
Well I won’t go on and on. All I can say is that Blum is the best and I wouldn’t think of taking Charlotte (or any other future pet) anywhere else!

I can’t say enough good things about Blum. My goldendoodle puppy, Winston, has gone for his puppy shots and wellness checks and everyone is so very friendly! Winston wants to go back whenever we leave. I feel at ease to have such high quality care for my pup. Dr. Cohen has been great and answers all of my questions very thoroughly. Thank you!

I am on the fence about Blum. The vet seems nice and the staff friendly but they were lacking at communicating price and telling you what you are getting.
I recently took my pup in because he was losing hair. The vet did a skin scraping. I was expecting a 90 dollar bill (60ish for vet, 30ish for test).
I came out with a 650 dollar bill. The vet told me after the skin scraping that my dog had mites and the best solution was taking a skin biopsy and sending it out. Which she told me would run around 300 bucks… The way the vet described it, it seemed like the prudent thing to do. So now my bill was 90ish plush 300ish.
I go to pay and it’s 650…250 dollars more than expected. I looked over the bill and there was a tape test of some sort and a ringworm test and some anesthesia and some foam spray and fish oil pills… most of which was not explained to me at all.
Now…i’m not a cheap person when it comes to my pup, I make a good living and I’d go to the moon for the little guy, but I like to be informed, whether it’s a random test or taping, even if it’s routine for the Vet, I like to be informed which has not been my experience so far.
If my experience gets better I’ll change this review accordingly.

I received a call from the Vet today to talk about my results from the skin biopsy my pup had. I was a little surprised when the vet mentioned my Unilocal review. We discussed ways that we could improve the experience and in the end I was very pleased with how thoughtful and caring the vet was, not only about my pup but about my experience there as well. Looking back I could have been more questioning, but when you’re life is in numbers and not biology the word biopsy seems like a foreign language and I just didn’t know what to ask.
In the end I am sticking with this vet. My pup Rocket likes the place too much.

My cat sees Dr. Evans and we could not be happier with her or with Blum in general. Dr. Evans takes things exactly as seriously as she, the expert, knows them to be — so if you are a dramatic first-​time pet caretaker like me you know what is and is not a big deal and you don’t skip important preventative care while also rushing your pet in for emergency treatment for issues that don’t require anything other than home care.
Blum seems to be well run, from an operational and communication standpoint, which makes it an easier experience for scared animals and their people, but I’m sure also significantly improves the quality of care provided.
Also my cat just had a dental cleaning at Blum and had excellent results and an easy recovery.

Love Dr. Georgesen. I know that Zeus is in the best hands possible when I enter that clinic. Which is the most important thing for me. A bit pricey but totally worth it! Highly recommend this hospital for all your furry children’s needs.

How have I not reviewed this place yet?
They helped me immeasureably when my beloved Egon got cancer, and was dying. I felt like their heart was broken right along with mine when the inevitable happened. They sent a card, they donated to a shelter in his name. Before that, they gave me straight up good advice and information about what I could do for a number of directions.
Then, I took my sweet Sonic, the Dog here after a terrible experience at another vet *cough* Uptown Animal Hospital *cough*. She’s got her quirks, all shelter dogs too, but she LOVES the vets here. Even when it’s an unpleasant procedure DAMN YOU, NAIL TRIMS! it’s taken care of quickly, efficiently and competently.
If you’re obsessed with your pets, as I am, this place will put your mind at ease. They love animals just as much as I do.
Wait times can be high in the waiting room, but I find if you get there not too early, and as close to your appointment time as possible, it’s not bad. They’re good about letting you sneak into a room beforehand if your pet gets antsy.
The best for my sleek little cupcake of an itty bitty pitty dog. And yours!

What an amazing animal hospital! Everyone is so caring, loving to the animals, understanding of every little detail, concern and fears especially (our kitten was having multiple procedures and quite frankly I was a nervous wreck!). I received multiple prompt updates and a very thorough explanation of everything. Dr Evans is absolutely wonderful and the entire staff just exude their love and care for the animals!
BY FAR, the best veterinarian and animal hospital I’ve ever seen in my 40 years with pets! Thank you!!!

I recently adopted a cat and took him to Blum to get checked out on the recommendation of many friends.
Pluto, my cat, came from a hoarding situation and was an absolute wreck when we got to the vet. He hates the car, the carrier, and basically everything around him. I was very nervous on how he would react to the vet, but I shouldn’t have been. The care shown was amazing. They took the time to allow him to adjust to the new people in the room and worked quickly and calmly. Pluto didn’t bite or act in any way upset. It was a huge relief.
They are a wonderful place to take your pet. I am so happy to have found a long term vet.

I have been entrusting the well-​being of my dogs to Blum Animal Hospital since 1973; first under the outstanding care of Dr. Rubin (until his retirement several years ago) and ever since, under the nurturing care of Dr. Marks.
Dr. Marks continues to earn my admiration and respect for her compassionate, dedicated care of animals, her knowledge and skills in diagnosis/​treatment, her respectful interaction with «pet parents», and her knowing when it’s appropriate to refer us out and link us up with veterinary specialists and help to coordinate that care.
Staff is always helpful, without hesitation, in lifting my dog in and out of my car, as we both need this assistance at this point!
I’m very grateful to be able to provide the best quality of life to my sweet dog with the support of Dr. Marks.

If I could give the place 20 Stars I would! Dr. Evans is AMAZING, she has taken care of my cats beyond my expectations and I have HIGH expectations.
I have had to call in with urgent questions and recently needed to email her X-​rays I had done at Chicago’s worst Animal ER to ensure everything was ok. She always returns my calls and emails the same day, with extremely compassionate and knowledgable advice!
I don’t trust many people especially when it comes to my little ones but I can not express enough love and respect I have for Dr. Evans and her team.
If you need an AMAZING Vet that truly cares about your family member and you can turn to anytime with or without and appointment then this is your place and I highly recommend you ask for Dr. Evans, she is above and beyond the best Vet I have ever met!

Blum is a great place to take your pet! It’s a reputable vet and I always feel safe bringing my dog here!
The only downfall is they seem to charge more than other vets in the area. Make sure you fully understand what services are being done and what it covers, i. e heart worm test is a separate test than a yearly check up, even though they drew blood from my dog.
Overall, I’d recommend Blum!

Dr. Baker is the best! She is amazing! She makes you feel very calm no matter what the situtaion and her assistants are so sweet to our boys! We never tried to pressure us into doing anything, she made sure we fully understood what was happening and Lou (our dog) loves her! She also performed a surgery on his ear and he is doing very well!

When we went to Blum, we were in the sad position of seeking care for our beloved, 11 ½ year old greyhound (Hawkeye) when he suddenly fell ill. Hawkeye had only recently moved to Chicago, so we had not needed regular vet care yet. We knew we were probably dealing with a life-​threatening situation.
Despite the fact that we were a «walk-​in,» the staff of Blum – everyone at the front desk, vet assistants and Dr. Kate Ardis – treated us and Hawkeye with such wonderful care and compassion as they diagnosed Hawkeye and relayed the bad news to us. They went above and beyond their duties to help make the process of saying good-​bye as peaceful as possible. It is a horrible time for any loving pet owner, and the team at Blum «got it.» They even give you the option of receiving a lovely paw print set in plaster with your pet’s name (for no extra cost). Dr. Ardis later sent us a lovely condolence note.
We are so grateful for Blum’s care, and the knowledge that Hawkeye was surrounded by such kind people on his last day. Thank you, Blum!
