History
Established in 2005.
Since it’s start as a project studio on the 4th floor of the «Spice Factory» building in the Creative Arts District, Carterco Recording has continued to grow and evolve into a cozy little studio capable of handling all audio needs. In 2007 it relocated to the 3rd floor, occupying space that used to be a bank.
The space on the 3rd floor, where the studio is currently located, features a large walk in vault, nice thick walls and a great view of the river. The space continues to improve, as the Carterco team invests sweat, love and money into making the studio the best it can be. We have always tried to cater to people the feel comfortable in our environment. If it looks like the place for you, it was built for people like you. Carterco Recording shows no signs of slowing down in it’s evolution and improvement, recently a second studio was added to cater specifically to hip hop clients.
Meet the Business Owner
Jamie C.
Business Owner
Jamie Carter started Carterco Recording in order to take his project studio out of his bedroom. Pretty quickly recording friends of friends turned into recording strangers, which lead to Carterco Recording being a full time job. Even though Jamie continued to be an active musician, the title of «project studio» vanished and Jamie took Carterco down the path of trying to create a great recording environment for all people.
Jamie’s start in recording music came at the age of 11, when his stepfather gave him a 4 track recorder and a mic. That led to a fascination with audio recording, which led to a hunger for playing music. Jamie attended the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Auckland, New Zealand. After graduating SAE Jamie eventually found himself in Chicago, surrounded by the people he came here to meet — passionate musicians. Since starting Carterco he has never stopped learning lessons about running a studio, and hopes not to.
