Cermak Produce

I LOVE, L.O.V.E their Puerto Rican rice! Do yourself a favor and order it for a get together– it will be the hit! I’d call it in ahead for pans of it, they may have quart size readily available.
Also, cheap groceries and vegetables. So stock up on canned and dry goods. Fruit is great too– affordable and fresh!

I will never go to this place to purchase anything again. I had to run in today to grab a head of cauliflower for a dish that required several of them. I was absolutely dismayed to find that one head cost me $ 7.62. What? I’m sorry. Come again. How much for ONE head of cauliflower? This is absolutely absurd.
I opted to go here rather than the Mariano’s on Chicago avenue to avoid traffic. I was looking forward to it and the place is pretty clean and has ok products. However, the prices are astronomical and I don’t know how they get away with it. Considering that this is on the border of a middle and low income community I can only imagine who is able to afford this food. It’s things like this that illuminate for me the inequality in the distribution of adorable healthy food in communities of color.
I got three heads of cauliflower from Mariano’s for less than this one. I do not support establishments that make their products inaccessible to the community. I literally laughed at the cashier when she rang me up and she thought I was kidding. I asked her if others had ever reacted that way and she smirked at me. I will never buy anything from this place again when I can go to Stanley’s or Mariano’s b

Love having this place down the street. Amazed at how long lasting some of the produce is even in my cheap, old fridge. Granted I need to learn better storage and such for some items (don’t refrigerate your tomatoes! Kills flavor.) This place has great deals on produce, eggs, milk, all fresh and never had an issue. Pantry staples however are a bit expensive. But fantastic to be so close to this kind of quality.

I love this grocery store! Their produce and meat selection are vast and affordable! Being a smaller grocery, they do a good job keeping the essentials in stock. They have fresh baked bread daily, their pico de gallo is really good, and the staff is always very friendly!

Great selection here. A step above Stanley’s and Tony’s. Not sure that I would get seafood, but it’s great that they have an option.

As a first-​timer at this store, it meet all my needs and expectations.

Ok, I realise that it’s a bit bizarre to go all the way to Chicago from London and rave about a supermarket… but that’s exactly what I’m going to do. So many things! They have a great selection of produce, some fruits and vegetables that I have never seen or heard of before. If I hadn’t been about to fly home the next day, I would have tried everything! As it was, I got a bell pepper that was twice the size of anything I can get in the UK, some delicious guac and hummus, and some really nice apples. I had to hold myself back for practicality’s sake but if I lived in Humboldt Park I’d be here all the time.

This is my favorite grocery store in Chicago. When I shop there with my little girls, I’m greeted by name, with endless smiles. Seriously affordable produce and meat selection! I started shopping here 11 years ago, as a young college student, and I am so happy to see how their selection is becoming more diverse to suit the needs of a changing neighborhood. Ask a manager to stock what you want that they don’t carry, and they’ll do their best to get it on the shelf! At my request, they started carrying my favorite brand of balsamic vinegar and organic milk, and they did! It’s even selling well :) Also, deliveries of purchases over $ 50 are free.

While Mayfair Market in my hood (Albany Park) is sufficient enough for my everyday grocery needs, Cermak Produce really wins almost every single category I desire as a grocery store.
They always have quality grocery varieties, fresh meat, hot-​food selections, and bakery assortments. Although I have to say they don’t necessarily have the cheapest prices on fresh produce, I can count on their qualities regardless. For the most part, their prices are still better than what you will see in a Jewel-​Osco or an Aldi.
In this particular location, you will people with different races and ethnicities. There are also hipsters shopping here as well since it’s not too far from other neighborhoods in proximity (Logan Square, Bucktown, and Wicker Park).
If you need to grab something to eat on the way to work, for lunch break, or dinner break at your work place, there’s a plenty of hot-​food selections, which I don’t normally see it at Mayfair Market in Albany Park. Their pastry and bakery items look quite amazing and delicious as well!
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find non-​organic spinach at this Cermak. All I saw was the organic options, but I prefer the loose-​leaf ones sold in a large clear plastic bag, like what I’ve seen at the Chicago Produce (Albany Park) and Stanley’s Fruit Market (Noble Square). I use spinach in my omelets a lot, and not being able to find this item here was pretty disappointing.
Anyways, I still think highly on Cermak Produce and wish there was one in close proximity to my apartment.

Came here to buy what we need for a good spicy chili… But watch your stuff. Someone broke into our car while shopping here!!!

Ok for the basic produce, but I still prefer Stanley’s. Considering this is one of the only stores in the neighborhood, I go there a little more often than I’d like. The prices on produce are fair, but everything else is expensive.

This has become my new local grocery store. I like their prepacked section because I can get chia seeds, spices and wasabi peas for cheap! I wish they had a better selection of seafood instead of individually vacuum sealed tilapia and whatnot.
There are definitely some obvious markups, but the best part about this location is the daily fresh baguette bread!

I had the worst experience ever shopping in this store, the cash register women refused to sell me eggs just because I had already bought some eggs and I re-​entered the store to get more eggs! Yes, so what? What if I made up my mind and decided to get more eggs!
And over that i bought a Hershey bar and she drop my chain in the registry counter and didn’t even say sorry! So f****ng rude!
I honestly would not shop in this store ever again.

Carnitas can be purchased by the pound on the weekends. Lechon is available by the pound as well. Score!

I love the face lift. This place is clean and friendly staff. They have a mix of organic… just have to look.

I’ve been shopping at this Cermak Produce for YEARS. Mind you, I only lived close by for about a year, but I keep coming back, even if it involved a long trek across the city. Why? Because they’re awesome. It’s very nice inside, especially after their somewhat recent renovation. They have cheap produce (eg, limes 10 for $ 1, bunches of fresh spinach, romaine, and other salad greens for less than $ 1 each, all sorts of cheap squash, even some more exotic Hispanic fare like nopal and jicama). Their meat and deli counters are great, very quick even on busy days (some folks behind the counter don’t speak perfect English, but they still make a great effort to help you). I got some Boar’s Head turkey on sale for $ 6/​lb, over $ 2 cheaper than the price I saw at another store.
The best part: THEY DELVER! Yup, if you buy over a certain amount in groceries (I want to say it’s around $ 50 or $ 60, give or take– ask them for the exact amount), they will drop both you and your food off if needed. My friend and I went shopping during a snowstorm that soon turned in a blizzard and the delivery van dropped us off (note: we were going dang near Oak Park!). I don’t often buy that much stuff from here and it’s pretty hard to rack up that much shopping here b/​c the prices are pretty low, but it’s a great point to keep in mind in case we need to pick up party stuff.
Some minor gripes: some stuff, particularly pet food, is pricey; not enough vegetarian options, though this is getting better now that they’ve stocked tofu; the veggies are good but the fruits were lacking this winter (yes, I know this was the Winter From Hell, but come on, even Aldi’s had Cuties). Biggest gripe of all: the taco stand is gone! Now where am I supposed to get my steak tacos and meat-​on-​a-​stick-​with-​a-​side-​of-​bread-​and-​BBQ sauce during the summer? Bring it back Cermak Produce!

Produce here is AMAZING. That is all I can say. Everythingn else is a bit pricey, but I do like their arrachera is really good too. Makes for really yummy tacos.

I don’t think I’ve been excited about a grocery store in my entire life. They’re not exciting places!
So. Get this. There’s a Jewel a couple blocks from where I live and it has the crappiest of crap crap produce. Somehow Cermak Produce is stocked full of fresh, delightful looking fruits and vegetables right out of the Garden of Eden. Say WHAT?! I know, right?
And then it’s CHEAP as dirt. This isn’t even Whole Foods that rapes my bank account when I want a firm, non-​rotten tomato. Then (because I think it caters mostly to my Mexican homies) Cermak Produce also has some pretty exotic fruits and veggies (can I introduce you to calabaza and chayote?). I don’t have to go on an adventure just to find that weird, unfamiliar ingredient for that obscure recipe I want to try thanks to Cermak Produce. Sayonara Whole Paycheck!
I’ve seen cray-​cray lines waiting at the meat counter at Cermak Produce but I haven’t been brave enough to check it out myself. I definitely have this mindset that price equates quality when it comes to meat and am dubious that Cermak Produce can really deliver to my er… pricey… standards. Might be good for you though!
Cermak Produce also has all kinds of Mexican cheese. I’m used to having a choice of two (count that: one, two) kinds of cheese of the same brand. Cermak Produce has more brands of Mexican queso than what I know what to do with. Likewise, they have a cornucopia of chorizo, refried beans, dulces (candies), and pan (bread). That said, they don’t have those go-​to brands to which I’m accustomed for other kinds of cheese (e.g. cheddar or mozzarella).
The isles have always been clean and the check-​out has been efficient. There’s some sort of bank or credit union or something past the registers. Anyway, it’s the parking lot that has me most concerned. It’s often jam packed! Good for Cermak Produce but bad for keeping dents off of the sides of my car.

My husband LOVES Cermak, especially the butcher department. I am impressed with the about of produce they do have, and the rad stuff you can find!
Good selection of things, some priced lower then Jewel (tofu), some WAY higher (OJ). However, when you live a couple blocks away, its really a wonderful thing.
And when they’re grilling in the parking lot, its impossible to pass up.

For the record I know that Cermak Produce is a chain of
stores here in the Chicagoland area.
But, what I didn’t know until my visit today was that this is a great
chain of stores, beginning with this one on North Avenue.
It’s an extremely busy location, right in Humboldt Park and I
found so many great things to love about this place!
Starting with the merchandising/​presentation. yes. they know
how to pull the buyer in with all the great visuals.
Everything is neat and tidy, Nothing looks sloppy or out of
place here.
Lots of staff on the floor, replenishing supplies as needed, helping
customers.
Everything here is so well stocked, absolutely no empty spots
of anything that I could see.
A great meat selection as well as a very busy deli counter which
was selling luncheon meats by the pound at some of the lowest prices
I have ever seen.
Nice and friendly cashiers too!
I am so impressed by this store/​location, to me it runs like a well
oiled machine.
And. even though a bunch of munchkins came in with their Teacher on like
a school field trip that could not even deter me.
There is simply too much to love here, great prices, great selection,
a great staff.
Who could say No to that?
