Our practice was established in 1938 and continues to be one of the première adult dental restorative and cosmetic practices in Chicago. Hi, I am Dr. Steven A. Fishman, founder of the Chicago Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. I have been treating adult dental needs for more than 30 years. I was an associate clinical professor at both Loyola University and Northwestern University Dental Schools and have lectured both nationally and internationally on cosmetic and restorative dental procedures. I have authored numerous articles in peer reviewed dental journals, including, the Journal of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

My passion is to help you improve your oral health and provide you with a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime.

Dr. Fishman was recommended to me when I moved to Chicago last year. He has provided excellent service each time I visit his office. I’ve had two regular check-​ups and some more complicated work done on my teeth over the past year, including replacing 10-​year-​old silver fillings. It has all gone as well as it could have. Dr. Fishman took the time to show me photos of each of my teeth and explain how my teeth were looking and what I might expect over the next 10 – 20 years. Overall, I feel confident that my teeth are in better shape than ever.
Joyce, the receptionist, is incredibly organized and on top of things (also a pleasure to talk with). She and Dr. Fishman created a plan of the work I need to get done over the next year or so, so that I could manage the payments (insurance tends to cover only a portion of dental work). Joyce also reminds me when it’s time to come in for a check-​ups and submits reimbursements through my insurance.
All of the staff are professional and friendly.
The office is in a great location if you work or live near the loop and/​or near the Red Line.

Dr. Fishman was my dentist for many years — at least 10. He replaced 15 silver fillings with expensive gold onlays and inlays, ALL of which eventually rotted underneath and had to be replaced, mostly with even more expensive crowns.
The incident that ended my business relationship with Dr. Fishman was about the third cleaning/​exam during which I mentioned a tooth that often tasted rotten and smelled bad. He looked at the date he had worked on the tooth and said to wait a few more months so insurance would cover it. Insurance considered dental work that rotted or fell apart within 5 years of being done to be the responsibility of the dentist, and so do I.
A few years later, after several more onlays and inlays had failed and I had reached my lifetime maximum on my dental insurance, I asked Dr. Fishman to fix some of the others that were rotting. He refused. Replacing all those inlays and onlays eventually cost me thousands of dollars.
By the way, Dr. Fishman had sold me on the idea of replacing the silver fillings with gold inlays and onlays by telling me they would last the rest of my life.
This experience was not an isolated incident. The friend who had originally recommended him, (and had been a patient of Dr. Fishman’s father before him) along with my friend’s co-​worker, both had a similar experience. All of us changed dentists.
I would bet Dr. Fishman has changed his technique for onlays and inlays, but the fundamental problem likely remains — this man lacks integrity.

I’m not sure of the procedure on how to respond on Unilocal.
When the issue occurred I was in your office and had repeat visits to no avail. Its a nice gesture to post a response to my review and post your contact info. A sincere genuine apology in person would have been better. I understand that an apology would be a liability, so that was never offered.
As one human to another, the depth of this warranted far better than I received in my opinion. We all make mistakes but to atone it is to own it. You have no record of a patient with nerve damage while in your care just confirms what I already stated, certain information was not put in my dental file once the injury occurred.
I had great insurance at the time and I was told I had to pay by check or credit card and bill my ins later, which I did.
Of course I can’t share all the details on Unilocal,but; I live with the aftermath of what occurred and I’m sharing my firsthand account on this.

Love Dr. Fishman and his staff! They are super friendly and professional. After seeing several doctors and getting different opinions, Dr. Fishman is the only one that really tried to save my tooth. I walked out the office today smiling ear to ear.

While few truly enjoy a visit to the dentist, Dr. Fishman and his team make the experience about a nice as it could be.
The office setting is beautiful, sitting high above the Magnificent Mile with views of the Water Tower and Michigan Avenue. The ambiance is peaceful with soft music and available DVDs for in-​treatment viewing. The treatment rooms are relaxing and comfortable. And, all of the staff are courteous and professional from the office administrator to the hygienists to Dr. Fishman himself.
The patient comes first in this environment. On one occasion, Dr. Fishman had to work on my tooth guard for nearly a full hour to insure I had the correct, pain free fit. I have had dozens of hygienic and aesthetic treatments and have always felt that I have had the best care possible.
Despite living in the northern suburbs, my wife and I have been going to Chicago Center for Aesthetic Dentistry for nearly 25 years now. For this level of care, we wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Dr. Fishman and his staff are one of a kind. He’s been working with my entire family for nearly twenty years with no signs of stopping. I recently returned to Chicago after ten years living in Los Angeles and happily landed back in his office for a check up.
His approach is thorough and thoughtful. Dr Fishman clearly loves what he does. Our family has commented that he’s a lot like an artist when he works. In addition, his staff is incredible. They’re the best of the best and great people, to boot.
Also good to note: Gorgeous views of Michigan Avenue and a mellow office vibe help with any dental anxiety.

I recommend Dr. Fishman to everyone I know. His gentlemanly approach to dentistry trickles down to his outstanding staff. The main reasons I recommend Dr. Fishman are for his kindness chairside and his fantastic work. It is truly amazing. I have the most amazing dental work I have ever seen in my mouth. People think I have great teeth. Little do they know that what I really have is a great dentist.
I have been under the kind and gentle eye of Dr. Fishman for the past 27 years.

I’m sorry that so far all of my reviews are all 5 stars — but I’m still relatively new to Unilocal and right now, I’m doing the reviews of my top notch places, people, etc. So that said…
I was not a good patient when it came to going to the dentist. I in fact, would not go every 6 months as you’re supposed to. I put it off and put it off. Eventually, my wife threatened to stop kissing me if I didn’t go — I didn’t have a funk or anything, she just didn’t want it to get to one.
Dr. Fishman is a fantastic guy — he is truly an artist at his craft, which shows in his true love for what he does. He’s extremely focused on you — the patient. He does everything he can to make you comfortable; whether it be going slower, doing multiple appointments, giving you more numbing agent. He also will play whatever radio station you choose — Internet radio — so pick a genre and he’ll play it. He’ll even let you throw in a DVD if you want to watch that while he’s working away.
His offices are absolutely gorgeous — great view of Water Tower and the Hancock. He also covers parking in the building for patients.
If you have a fear, loathing, etc for dentists — this is the place to go. If you are fine with dentists, but your dentists is just «eh» in your mind, this is the place for you too! :)

Dr. Fishman is great! I’ve been seeing him practically my whole life, and he is excellent. Practicing since ’76, he does crowns, bridges, implants, zoom whitening & other cosmetic procedures. Just saw him yesterday because I needed 2 cavities filled (one at the gumline — ouch!). He makes sure the procedure is painfree… for that, I give him my highest recommendation. Staff is top-​notch, too: the dental hygenist Angie is thorough and friendly, and his office manager Laurie is a sweetie. He’s in the Neiman Marcus building, so if you want a dentist in that area, he’s the guy. (free validated parking, too)
