I was looking for a rod and reel on a budget as a gift. Will was knowledgeable, patient and willing to work within my budget. He spent a lot of time with us getting the outfit set up. I would definitely recommend visiting the store.

My husband should get a cot to sleep in the back he spends so much time in here! Ok, that may be an exaggeration but he loves it and rightly so, the staff is super knowledgeable and LOVE fishing, know lots of trick and tips and what fish are hitting where. The selection is large and they bear with all my stupid questions because I do not know much about fishing. I bought my husband a rod here and he loves the quality and the staff recommended it, that’s good enough for me.

They have what others don’t… We do things on impulse. So when we need fishing line, we don’t want to order it to have it shipped. I needed some special fly line that works well, and when I called Bass Pro shop, they didn’t even have it. But I called Chicago Fly Fishing and they had 4 of them. Not only that. I also leave work late for my customers so when I went in a few minutes late, the owner had already closed the register. But re-opened it because he remembered that I had called earlier! And remembered exactly the line weight I needed. Now that’s customer service. :) much appreciated.

I had a GREAT experience here. I called here in a panic because I needed some green yak hair after a dying-experince on my own had come out horribly. The store was closed(because it was Monday and Labor Day), but Andy, the owner, happened to be there and seeing what a panic I was in offered to let me in the store anyways. When I got there he let me in and helped me find exactly what I needed. He didn’t try and rush me out or anything and was super helpful with the questions I had. In the end we ended up standing at the register and having a long conversation. The service here was absolutely above any beyond and from what I saw they had a huge selection. I will definitely be going back here!

The best fly fishing shop. The staff is helpful, knowledgable and friendly. They have the best materials for fly tying and carry a nice selection of flies and gear. If your visiting Chicago, like fly fishing, you should check out this shop.

If you’re an avid fly fisher, then you already know the breadth of quality that Chicago Fly Fishing outfitters offers. Though they may not have a lot of competition in the Chicagoland area, I’d say they are at the top of the pack in terms of solid Fly shops. To tell you the truth, i’d always been sceptical of a fly shop located in the outskirts of Lincoln Park. Nonetheless, don’t let the location fool you, they have a totally solid selection. As far as flies go, they have a vast array of stuff, whether you’re doing some top water fishing with dry flies, looking for some sinkers or even doing some saltwater fly fishing, they can get you set up accordingly. As well, they carry some premier fly fishing equipment, in terms of great rods, reels, waders and lines. Yeah, the prices are a bit higher than you’d get online or at a specialty shop in the country, but you can’t beat the convenience. I’ve often found myself hitting them up in a pinch, when I need a few extra flies for an impromptu journey to Wisconsin and never felt like I was ripped off. Most importantly, their customer service is really top notch. In a sport that is ever-costly and really categorized as something for the rich and elite, they really bring it down to earth as the classic and naturalistic sport that it is. Not an ounce of pretention here, so feel free to ask questions, whether you’re wondering if you’d be correct in in fishing a Caddis Emerger in June or a good spot to hit up in South East Wisconsin, they’ll gladly indulge you. As someone who wants to get more into fly tying, I often thought about taking one of their classes.

Most important — They have moved and the new address is 1279 N Clybourn. I didn’t phone first, and drove to the wrong location. Also, the website info is inaccurate. Super nice, friendly and helpful with gift suggestions for a novice like me. I wound up purchasing a BUZZOFF hat & a cool book on local places to fish around Chicago(suggested by the owner) for my dad for Father’s Day. He really likes the book and said it has a lot of info that he never knew, and will come in handy since it shows the depth of local lakes & rivers giving him new places to drop his line.

This is a tiny store off of Clyborn that could easily be missed, but they have a surprisingly large stock of fishing equipment as well as general outdoors gear. In fact, this is my first choice for tactical folding knives in Chicago. They stock excellent American made products for fair prices. The guys who work the shop are also super nice. You get a lot of weird attitude from most shops if you’re a girl, but they’re perfectly informative and not at all condescending.

Best, all-purpose flyshop in the city. Prices are fair(for the city), selection is pretty good too– they’ve gear, tying materials, waders, clothing, all the stuff you’d expect. So if you need a few junglecock eyes, strike indicators or maybe some Hexes or whatever, they can hook you up. Nice people work here too– Niki(formerly at Orvis) is great. There’s a loading zone parking spot out front that you can use if you shop here– smart touch considering the psycho neighborhood for driving/parking/shopping.
