CPC offers press access to professional printmakers, and printmaking classes in etching, lithography, silk screen, woodcut and monotype for all levels. The CPC Gallery features affordable prints and works on paper by
both local and international artists, and is uniquely situated within a working print studio, where visitors can learn and view various printmaking processes in action. Regular open houses and demonstration events for the community are offered year round.
The CPC is open to the public Fridays and Saturdays, 12−5pm, and by appointment.
History
Established in 1989.
The Chicago Printmakers Collaborative was founded in 1989 by artist
Deborah Maris Lader, whose vision was to provide a shared workspace, facility and dialogue for fellow printmakers in the community. Originally located in an old walk-up loft building in East Ukrainian Village, the CPC moved to it’s current storefront in Lincoln Square in 1999. Classes and workshops have educated the public for 20 years, and hundreds of artists from all over the globe have used the CPC facilities to make prints. The CPC has presented historic exhibitions, ranging from the first ever showing of South African township printmakers in 1995, to it’s 15th year anniversary retrospective at the Chicago Cultural Center. The CPC has partnered with Target Corporation and Marshall Fields to present classes in the Chicago Public Schools, and has collaborated with Gallery 37, the Park District, and the Museum of Contemporary Art to provide programming for both children and adults in the community.
