Community Counseling Centers

They seem to be helping the community in regards to the «go-​nowheres».
However, I’ve had several issues with the staff not listening, projecting, being rude, stereotyping, etc.
Their record keeping is stubborn [plus and minus], and they don’t really allow for corrections.
If you’re looking to receive benefits, then they’re your people.
If you’re looking to make great strides or not get caught up in the label-​stigma-​endless vicious cycle of the mental health industrial complex? Then it’s probably not your best bet.
The company seems to rely heavily on grants and public aid [medicare/​SSI] and referral networks.
They also seem to rubber stamp referrals and paperwork without critical oversight.
Much of my papers were rubberstamped by people I had never met, let alone spoken to.
I have some concerns about C4.

C4 is a wonderful organization. I’m not ashamed to review them. They deserve a lot of praise for their work and dedication to providing affordable mental healthcare to the community.
I used their services for medication management and counseling when I did not have health insurance. I had low expectations at first, but they were met and exceeded.
I adore my social worker. She’s very kind, funny, but most importantly, helpful. I’ve been to therapists who’d do nothing but listen and let me find my own way of dealing. My social worker implemented dialectical therapy. It’s not easy, but it’s very useful. There is group therapy and other similar services available.
My doctor is located at their Uptown/​Andersonville location on Clark Street. She is not a pill pusher like most others. She is understanding of your needs as a patient and she is very knowledgeable of various medicine. She’s one of the best doctors I’ve had.
I like that their employees treat patients respectfully. Some of us just need a little help. We’re not criminals or homicidal loonies.
If you don’t have health insurance or if you have medical aid, definitely give C4 a call for your mental health needs. They are really, really fantastic.

NO sliding scale. Shouldnt come up on that search then…

They no longer have a sliding scale fee. It’s all full fees. If you’re looking for free/​affordable health care, look elsewhere.

Many people talk down upon those with mental health disorders or illness…
They chat under their breath about those «loonies» or «crazies»…
But most people do not see the devastating side effects and outcomes someone who has one of these illnesses deals with on a daily basis whether it be bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation, depression, or any other psychological/​neurological challenge.
During my outpatient psychiatric clinical, I was privileged to witness some awesome work that a multi-​location organization called C4 Community Counseling Center of Chicago does. The organization was established back in 1972 to provide individuals who were released from psychiatric hospitals into the Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods with quality mental health services (hence, why so many psychiatric patient’s still reside in these areas now a days). C4 has expanded greatly and consists of six facilities throughout Chicago (Edgewater, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, Humboldt Park, West Ridge, and McKinley Park/​South Lawndale) with services addressing behavioral health and social problems including assistance for those struggling with substance use, victims of sexual assault, and those with mental illness and emotional trauma. They guide individuals in transitioning back to a condition in which they can live, work and thrive independently. All fees are determined on a sliding scale based on each individual’s income, and no one is turned away. A few of their awesome groups that I witnessed were: 24-​hour crisis intervention, expressive, art, comical, family, group, and individual therapy, violence prevention education, medication monitoring, case management, outpatient substance use treatment and residential services. All the employees I worked with were extremely passionate, diverse, patient and healing with all clients. Overall, an outstanding organization!
