Just to reiterate my 2014 review sentiments… This place sets the bar for full service optometrist standards. Nicole and her colleagues WILL get you into the most flattering frames at the best price point with the most thorough eye exam I’ve ever had (I’ve been wearing glasses for 36 years). Thankyou!

Dr. Jennifer Cameron is more than an optometrist, she’s an educator as well. I’ve been wearing prescription glasses since I was 8 years old and I’ve been constantly told by my eye doctor how bad my eyes were. Naturally, over the course of 20+ years of checkups, I never really felt that great about hearing more bad news.
But over the course of the last 2 years seeing Dr. Cameron, the word «bad» has never been mentioned once, except for by me. She has not only assured me that my eyes aren’t bad but I now also know more about the true health of my eyes with the technology and approaches they utilize. I’ve never felt so comfortable, confident and knowledgeable about all things that involve my eyes and vision. And this is before you get to the freshest selection of eye glass frames and shades in the North Chicago area.

I could go on and on about Custom Eyes in Roscoe Village. Everyone that works there is so friendly it’s almost suspicious, and Dr Shoudis clearly cares about keeping up with technology. They go out of their way to make sure you get exactly what you need, when you need it, and all the while giving you a mood boost just from visiting the office.

I have never had such a frustrating experience anywhere, let alone an «eye doctor’s office». Based on the amazing Unilocal reviews and recommendations from friends, I was hopeful that I had found my new local eye doctor! Nope, not so much. Since the office is located in the heart of Roscoe Village, I assumed it would cater to the family-​friendly community. Again, nope! Be warned, the woman at the front desk absolutely DOES NOT like children! I typically do not bring my children to appointments, but on this day I did not have a choice. They are old enough to be by themselves for a little bit and tend to be rule followers. Plus, they’ve gone with me to eye doctor appointments before and did great. I situated them in two chairs, gave them an activity and told them to just hang there until I was done. The woman at the front desk scolded them right off the bat for leaning on the front desk — what?!? And apparently scolded them again while I was in the exam for some reason that they were completely unclear. It’s funny, when I went back for my follow up without my kids, this woman could not have been nicer and more chatty. Clearly, she didn’t remember how nasty she was when I had been there before.
Anyways, my first visit with the doctor was fine. She gave me some new contacts to try and I went on my way. My follow-​up appointment did not go well at all (despite not having my children with me!). I let the doctor know that I was having significant difficulty with the new contacts with visibility while driving at night. Her only option that she offered me was to go back to my original contacts. That’s it. Apparently, there are only two options of contacts out there so I had to choose one. When I explained again the reason I originally was trying a new pair of contacts she said to me as she was walking out the door «I don’t know what you want me to do!». I even clarified with her that there were only two contacts that would be an option for me and she said yes. She even went on to explain that most people expect to be able to see clearly when that really isn’t the case. Again, what?!? Being able to see clearly, especially at night while driving, is too high of an expecation?!? Wow, that is something I have never heard in the 20+ years that I’ve been wearing glasses/​contacts. I walked out of there beyond frustrated and still not being able to see while driving at night. Suffice it to say, I will not be going back there. I did however find an amazing eye doctor who figured out the best option for contacts for me in the first visit!

I have been seeing Dr Jennifer Cameron (Shoudis) for about 5 years now & I have honestly recommended probably a dozen friends to her — we all LOVE her & this place!
Dr Cameron is so knowledgable and patient. She was also very helpful in understanding my insurance benefits and applying them. Just a great optometrist!
All of the staff at Custom Eyes is fabulous! They carry the latest styles from iconic designers — Tom Ford, Chanel, Oliver Peoples, SALT, Ray-​Ban, etc etc.
Buying designer glasses is an investment and the staff at Custom Eyes will make sure you make a wise one, helping you pick out frames that flatter your face, get you the highest quality of lenses, and most importantly, they will help you maintain your investment! I often bring my glasses in to Custom Eyes for cleaning and tightening and they are always so wonderful and so helpful! This post-​sale service means so much to me! I have been going to CustomEyes on Roscoe since moving to Roscoe Village in 2010, and previously purchased glasses from the Southport location. CustomEyes is exactly what you’d want from your «neighborhood» eye doctor’s office. The staff is incredibly friendly — Nicole at the front desk knows me by name whenever I need to stop in or call — and they are always incredibly quick to return calls or online requests.
I have had several situations over the years where I’ve needed to see Dr. Jen same day, and they ALWAYS squeeze me into her schedule. Dr. Jen is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly — she explains everything she’s doing and takes her time during exams. When I developed sensitivity issues with contacts, she was super patient in helping me try out various other options until we found ones that fit comfortably and didn’t irritate my eyes.
The optical shop has a huge array of high-​quality frames and sunglasses. The Robert Marc frames I bought years ago were pricey, but have lasted me FOREVER. I would recommend CustomEyes to anyone in the area looking for an optometrist and staff who truly care about their patients and their service.

Thank you so much for your generous service. I just went in and asked if I could pay to have them replace the lenses in my Ray-​Ban sunglasses, expecting to pay for their service. They generously pop the new lenses in in less than five minutes and didn’t charge me a cent. Happy new year. Give this place all your business!

I can not say enough about Custom Eyes on Roscoe! I’m not originally from Chicago so I did not know what to expect. The ladies here are all great. Nicole is who I’ve worked with most and she is especially awesome! She’s helpful, upbeat, and a fabulous stylist/​eyewear consultant. Ive never had a better experience and I will never go anywhere else!

First off let me begin by saying that I have been wearing glasses my entire life, Since I was in the first grade to be exact. I have bounced around Optometrists my entire life because I’ve never ever had that feeling where you feel you have to be loyal to any one specific Optometrist because of the stellar service or how easy your exam was but that all changed with my visit at Custom Eyes!
Dr. Jen I believe her name is was the best, very friendly, Knowledgeable and Patient with me. The Girls in the front all very nice helpful and friendly.
I will return as well as tell everyone I know the great experience I had with Custom Eyes!

I have been going to Custom Eyes for a few years now. Service has been great. My prescription has been changing a lot over that last few years so new glasses are always in need.
My exams have been stellar. But what has kept me impressed is the constant updating of exam equipment. I am in medical sales and I see many offices sit back and let the new technology go by. This office seems to be adding new equipment every couple of years.
The girls upfront have been very helpful in picking out new frames for me. In a couple cases my prescription only moved a fraction and they talked me out of higher price items and convinced me into only into new lens. As my wife says, I am not allowed to pick out frames unless the girls at Custom approve them.

I can’t say enough good things about Custom Eyes. Dr. Shoudis is amazing and so easy to talk to. She was concerned about something going on in my eye and helped me find an opthamologist. If you want a laid-​back friendly place, go here.

This place is fantastic. If you are on the hunt for a new eye doctor, look no further. Quick, friendly and affordable. They were able to get me in on an appointment on the same day and was out in 20 min.

I am not usually someone who openly gushes, but in this instance I’ll make an exception.
I have been wearing glasses for 33 of the 36 years of my life. I have been to countless optometrists and dealt with countless inadequacies or deficiencies when dealing either with the doctor, the staff, or both. Finding a good, solid, and dependable optometrist is not an easy task, as anyone who relies on their glasses to function will tell you. However, my long search is finally over. I have found the Holy Grail of optometry: Custom Eyes.
From the moment I walked in until the moment I walked out, I was treated in a friendly and highly professional manner. Both doctor and staff took their time with me and helped me choose the best frame to fit both my face and my needs/​style. I left feeling positive and reassured that I had made the right decision, both on my new glasses and on my new (permanent) optometrist’s office.

So happy I have my «Go to Place» for eye exams and eyewear after going to so many run of the mill establishments in the city! The service is incredible and the prices are very reasonable. I have a petite frame so finding a petite frame… no pun intended… can be a real challenge especially now that larger frames are all the rage. I usually have Nicole as my optician, and she just knows what will work for me, she’s like optician magician! I was so happy when she picked out the perfect hipster frames that didn’t overpower my smallish face, and the color is gorgeous (a deep wine) which I never would have chosen for myself. Can’t wait to get a second pair!

Luckily I have perfect vision, so my visits here are not for glasses or contacts. But for some reason my eyeballs are magnets for small flying objects and I have several cornel abrasions that have needed to be looked at.
Custom Eyes is always able to get me in the same day, a quick exam, and an RX for some healing eye drops and I’m on my way. The front office staff is amazeballs, especially Nicole. Will definitely be returning here when my old age vision kicks in, which will probably be right around the corner!

Am I just unlucky that I don’t get the incredible, 5-​star experience here?
I’ve gone to Custom Eyes for 2 years based on the sparkling Unilocal reviews. There’s a lot of good here:
— Fast, simple, no-​nonsense exam from a kind doctor.
— Bubbly, communicative girls to help pick out glasses.
— Willingness to price out many frames and search for discount plans for insurance-​lacking folks like me.
However, I’ve had a lot of little things go wrong, and they’re starting to add up:
— On my first visit, the doctor had me try out a new brand of contacts, telling me they were cheaper. When I called back, they were actually more expensive. What was the point, then? No, thank you.
— I have a lop-​sided nose, so I need frames with a metal, adjustable bridge. This means that ²⁄₃ of the frames here are automatically not for me. Custom Eyes loves trendy, hipster, plastic frames. How I wish I could wear Salt!
— The girls behind the counter are very nice, but they’ve had some pretty, er, personal conversations out loud.
— I needed some colored contacts for a costume. I ordered them from 1−800-Contacts. My choice wasn’t suited for astigmatism, so someone called me from Custom Eyes. I appreciated the medical concern, but I only needed the lenses for one event. These details fell on deaf ears. The tone the woman took was rather scolding/​passive-​aggressive: «Well, (sigh), if that’s what you want…»
— I’ve never had anti-​reflective treatment on my glasses. I hardly wear them, and don’t have a lot of money. Thus, I refused it my last visit. The sales girl did a great job trying to convince me, but I never said «yes»… and she put the treatment on my bill! Yeesh! I admit I was strongly considering it, but I found the assumption rude. WAIT until I consent to giving that $ 100, please.
So, yea. I’ll continue to go here. The people are fun, fast, and I can see perfectly. I just wish they’d tweak their customer service a bit. I’m an adult who has worn glasses since I was a small child; I know what I am comfortable with and what I can afford.

I like this place!
I’ve been going to Target Optical for a few years because… well, because I’m always at Target for something else and it was quite convenient. There’s something odd about the back wall of an optometrists office being shared with a Pizza Hut Express…
This was a refreshing change of pace! I didn’t check out their glasses (because I have the coolest pair ever), but they had a sweet-​looking selection. Next time my prescription changes and I update, I’ll be looking here for some snazzy specs.
My visit was efficient and pleasant. I was in for a routine exam and it turns out my prescription hasn’t changed! I reordered my contacts through my insurance and they were in within a week! They were also super awesome in watching out for a rebate for my contacts as well — something I never expected!
Kudos to this awesome staff for being so on top of things! I’ll be in for my rebate form soon!

Custom Eyes is the tops! Behind the clever name is a group of upbeat, energetic, and professional people who take a genuine interest in getting your vision on the straight and narrow with some stylish frames or a variety of contacts.
The doctor is very personable and explains everything she is doing such that a goof like me can understand. The gal who worked with me to pick out frames was incredibly patient and didn’t poke fun when I showed how incredibly picky I am with my tastes.
Their selection of frames is copious; everything from thin wire frames to frameless to plastic hipster frames. They have a bunch of lens options so you get the right look with your prescription and my glasses were ready is 3 days! Best of all, they accept many insurance plans so it was really affordable and painless.

I’ve seriously been wearing the same pair of fugly glasses since high school! I’ve meant to get new ones for years now (especially since they are falling apart), but haven’t wanted to spend the $$ since I only wear them when I drive.
My hubby and I were walking by Custom Eyes and decided to stop in. I was trying on some glasses that were only slightly better than my 12 yr old «driving glasses.» Fortunately, a lovely sales associate by the name of Kate stopped me because she could tell I needed serious help. Minutes later she helped me find a few pairs of glasses that were actually cute enough to wear in public.
Kate also handpicked a few for my hubby and he fell in love with a pair that were (in my opinion) way too geek chic for his conservative look. He’s been talking about how cool they were all week so I have a feeling I may lose this battle and he’ll be back for them.
We left without glasses because we wanted see if our vision insurance plan would cover any of the cost… and it looks like I may be in luck. We’ll be back soon to make a purchase from the helpful Kate. I’m looking forward to being able to see the world!
