Launched in 1994 by David Larkin, DAL Builders started out as a company focused on new construction, building custom and semi-​custom homes in Northern Illinois for several developers and architects. Since then, we’ve expanded into a full-​service remodeling firm, serving both residential and commercial clients. We manage both small, thousand-​dollar remodels and large, multimillion-​dollar new construction projects. Our staff includes experienced tradesman and seasoned project managers – and we work closely with a team of licensed and insured sub-​contractors to provide quality and cost-​effective prices. My project with DAL was horribly managed. As another reviewer experienced, the work was repeatedly rescheduled, and they ignored my calls/​texts to find out the new schedule. Workers would just show up without notice, and I’d have to call in to work. Management was rude and ignored my questions. The work was shoddy. I’ll pay someone else to fix their mistakes — I don’t trust having them back in my house.

Finished a complete renovation with DAL. $ 60,000 initial labor contract plus materials.
The project was managed atrociously and took 3+ times as long as promised. (I had to vacate my residence for nearly six months.) Scheduling of work by subs was repeatedly mismanaged. Many tasks had to be re-​done. DAL was not honest with me about subs having been paid. The place was left filthy with construction dirt. Surfaces were not protected. Communication was sometimes sporadic and inadequate.
On the plus side, some of the subs were very good — the carpenter (Jack Turczewski) and electricians (Rein Electric) we’re absolutely excellent. Their work was top-​notch, and when problems arose, they came up with great solutions.
I would never use DAL again. I’m generally pleased with the final results, but the process was a ridiculous nightmare. David was less than professional. I expected better.

We just finished our project with DAL Builders and already have them working on a quote for our next project. If you expect excellent customer service and a superior product, call them. I told Mike I wanted a long-​lasting, low maintenance porch and we discussed all of the options. We chose Ipe (very hard Brazillian wood) and Azek. Mike was always quick to respond to requests for information or to answer questions. The work crew were all very nice, professional guys. They cleaned up every day and the craftsmanship is outstanding. When there was a small misunderstanding about a finish, Mike was promptly at my door to discuss it. DAL took care of it and, needless to say, we were more than happy.
We are very pleased with our new front porch. It is beautifully crafted and will last for a very long time. I think all of our neighbors are jealous :)

After receiving a few different quotes for the replacement of our outside stairs and putting up of a fence, we decided to go with DAL Builders. Our Sales contact, Michael, was very helpful and always very quick to respond to our questions. Michael came to take a look at what we needed and we received the quotation via email within 1 or 2 business days. He was always super helpful and explained every step in the process. Once approved by our board and waiting for the rain to stop, they were at our house by 7am and finished in 2 business days! The process was very smooth! Our neighbors have made several comments about how great our stairs look (even better than theirs, ha!)! Thanks DAL Builders!

DAL rebuilt the deck on top of our garage and then also rebuilt the staircase leading up to the deck. They did excellent work, the quality of the craftsmanship was impressive. Their guys – especially Brian (outside contractor?), Sebastian, and Tim – were personable and very professional, and we appreciated their input and suggestions. We did have some delays in getting things finished, though most related to either weather or the manufacturers’ (Azek) inability to ship product that was not warped; it took three shipments to get things straight. And as with so many construction projects, it ended up costing about twice what we anticipated. Otherwise we were very satisfied with the project and the end result.
