Dance For Life

Dance for Life is an annual fund raiser by the Dance and supporting communities for HIV/​AIDS and for a dancer’s health fund: per the organization’s facebook site (their website is not well designed to convey the mission):
«Dance for Life Chicago is the Midwest’s largest performance-​based AIDS fundraiser. DFL assists Chicago AIDS service organizations and the Dancers’ Fund, an emergency fund for those in the dance community with a life threatening illness.
Mission. The mission of Dance for Life is to raise awareness and funds for HIV/​AIDS care, education and prevention while promoting the art of dance in Chicago.
Since its beginning, Dance for Life has raised millions of dollars, united over 15,000 people in the fight against HIV/​AIDS, and showcased 30 of Chicago’s top professional dance companies. It is the only performance of its kind in which Chicago’s finest dance companies, including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Giordano Dance Chicago, and River North Dance Chicago, come together for an evening of performances. The dancers, companies, and choreographers involved donate their time and efforts to this cause.»
All very nice, the major event is the fundraiser which is a big dinner/​cocktail party followed by a dance concert (short selections from many major companies in the city) followed by afterparties. The 2013 performances included two exclusive world première pieces, choreographed by Harrison McEldowney & Jeremy Plummer and Randy Duncan, featuring dancers from various companies involved. In addition to the three partner dance companies and two world première pieces, DFL included DanceWorks Chicago, Hubbard Street, Thodos Dance Chicago and Independent Artists Abigail Simon & Mauro Villanueva. The dancers were impeccable as always, Hubbard street is always my favorite. If you love dance and love to give back you should attend this event!
