David S Behm, DDS

Had a root canal done by Dr. Behm in early 2013. It cost over $ 1,000. That tooth now has to be extracted. The filling sank down within a year and I could no longer chew on that side. I have fillings that are over 70 years old and this one lasted less than a year. Don’t waste your time or your money.
I feel customer reviews are really important. Who knows better than the people who use the services provided in the market place but the recipients of those services. I use other people’s reviews all the time because if you take the time to give a very positive or very negative review you have had an impactful experience. Personally I worked as a Consumers’ Bureau adjudicator for 10 years in NJ — so I really respect consumer’s experiences.
I wrote a negative review (above) on Dr. Behm, DDS. He called me and told me to remove it as he felt it was unfair because I was to have a crown on the tooth that has been a problem. That’s not how it works Dr. Behm, I recount my experience and what you think should have taken place doesn’t count and it is inappropriate to call me and tell me I’m wrong and I need to remove my review. You forget I was there. Your secretary asked if she should set of an appointment for a crown and you said, «No we’re just going with the filling.» I was about to go into Chemotherapy and would not have been able to have dental work done for a year if not right then. So whatever your notes may tell you that is what happened.
My continued experience has been with other dentists who agreed that it was not a good job and there was no chance of placing a crown over that tooth. The last dentist finally convinced me that tooth cannot be saved and he is going to extract it.
You were a pleasant person and I did not have excessive discomfort at your hands but your do have to live with the consequences of your work and so does your patient.
In response to Dr. Behm — Fact: I had stage one cancer and chemotherapy was not urgent. It was considered just an insurance policy. But once on chemotherapy the immune system is so compromised no oral treatments can be done. You knew I be unable to continue the treatment for a year. You as the doctor made the decision to remain with just a filling. Within the year that tooth was no longer viable for a crown. I just didn’t want to lose an anchor tooth and kept trying to find someone who could save it. As for coming back to you for further treatment — when the first job was not adequate, why on earth would I return to you to you?

I’m not sure who exactly is writing these reviews of Dr. Behm. I’ve found him to be friendly and honest. I especially like the fact the he clearly lays out his treatment plan – he clearly explains what he is going to do, why he is doing it, and how it will improve your smile. He’s the best, and is staff is amazing as well!

Fantastic! I am a huge baby as I am terrified of the dentist but Dr Behm is very patient and gentle. Highly recommend!

I am really surprised to see the negative reviews for Dr. Behm on here. I have had nothing but good experiences with him.
After a 10 year hiatus from regular dental care (due to zero health insurance), I had quite a challenging array of dental adventures waiting for Dr. Behm. Two cavities. A root canal that needs fixing. Plaque below the gumline and a wonky wisdom tooth. Rather than panic or appear distressed at all, by the work that I needed, Dr. Behm outlined a solid treatment schedule for me and we got to work. (Bonus points for not making me feel like a scumbag for not maintaining my mouth.)
I should say that I found him because I was writhing in the floor with pain after one of the two cavities began to make itself known. My girlfriend looked up Dr. Behm’s office and called him, after hours, to see if she could set up an appt. I guess his calls were forwarded home, because he answered and suggested some home remedies until we could go in for treatment.
And here’s the best part, he held onto her phone info and called the next day to check on me. I wasn’t even a patient, yet, but he wanted to make sure that I was feeling better. That’s care above and beyond the call of duty.
For my treatments, Dr. Behm has used an appropriate amount of anesthetic (Thank God, because I am the World’s Biggest Baby when it comes to dental pain.) He explained to me what he was doing, how long it would take and how much discomfort I would be in. While in the chair, his directions were clear and concise and if I needed to take a break, he would patiently wait for me before we carried on. What more could you ask from a dentist? A hug before and after every treatment?
I weight 250 lbs. I am a big, broad man. Wrestling me into a dental chair and then doing intricate work in my mouth, while I am whimpering and acting like a baby is no small task and Dr. Behm has handled it like a champ every time.
I will be back in a week or so to fill one of the cavities. I can’t say that I’m looking forward to it, because it IS a dentist’s visit after all, but I CAN say that I have found a dentist that I trust and like and will return to for all of my maintenance and care.

I really wanted to be a fan of this dentist. He was very close to my place, saw me right away during an emergency and at first I thought, ok, pretty cool.
But, long story short, had to have some more serious work done (root canals, etc.) and there was a TON of pain involved, it took literally weeks to complete and after plunking down nearly $ 1,000 out of my pocket, one of my procedures didn’t take and I’m now paying another fortune to see an Endodontist to redo the work. I know no doctor or dentist is perfect but I just lost faith in this place and frankly, felt the dentist was a bit gruff with me during procedures as well. So I’ve moved on to North Broadway Dental and had much better luck there.
I’d say, if you have an emergency Dr. Behm is just fine but for regular day to day work I think there’s better to be had, sorry to say.

I first made an appointment without knowing anything about the office or Dr. Behm, and I really got lucky. It’s a small office, so they only see one patient at a time– you truly get their full attention. Dr. Behm does the teeth cleaning himself, not an assistant. I’ve been three times now, and I will be going back shortly to get a cavity filled.
Bottom line: I highly reccommend Dr. Behm.

I went to Dr. Behm twice. Not the warmest person but gets the job done. The receptionists are very nice. I’m grateful for him for a great periodontist recommendation who in turn recommended a different dentist. His office could use a remodel and some updating. Everywhere else does digital x-​rays and photos. Good spot for basic care but since I’ll be needing some extensive dental work, it was not the place for me.

I love going here. The husband and wife team, along with their assistant make you feel right at home. It’s a nice little office, they are all very personable and make you very comfortable. He’s gotten the job done for me and hasn’t suggested anything I don’t really need. The office is a little old school, but I’ve learned in the past that fancy, modern dentist offices do not necessarily mean that you are going to get great customer satisfaction… in fact, quite the contrary!
Going to the dentist isn’t supposed to be the time of your life, you’re supposed to get things done and get out of there as far as I’m concerned! :) I love him, his wife and their assistant. Very nice!

I have been with Dr. Behm for about 15 years if not longer. He has consistently offered excellent and very caring service. He has great cosmetic advice on top of his health expertise. He always offers to provide the best treatment and follows up with personal phone calls which demonstrates how attentive he is to his patients.

I have been with Dr. David Behm for over 15 years and he is the «Best»! He is very good at what he does. Dr. Behm and his Staff are very professional and nice. He will always give you an honest opinion/​answer and will «only» work on what needs to be fix. Overall, you will leave feeling good and very happy that you have found someone you can trust and rely on to give you a pretty smile.

I have had only horrible experiences with dentists in the past. The previous dentist I can only identify as the character Zell from the movie the Marathon man, cold and sadistic. Dr. Behm, his receptionist, and assistant, were both professional and personable. I was in terrible pain, and incredibly nervous. Although going to the dentist has never been a benign experience, I was made comfortable, and put at ease. Dr. Behm gave me his cell phone number and actually called the next day to see how i was. The office is not ornate but it serves its purpose. I’m glad that I took my mother’s advice, who is his patient and ignored the other Unilocal reviews.

ok — so was in the mood to catch up on Unilocal reviews and decided I should review the only dentist I have seen in the US. The other reviews make me wonder if I should be looking for another one or whether I saw the wrong guy. Anyway, my experience with Dr. Behm was pretty basic, but satisfying. He cleaned my teeth, took xrays and told me to come back in 6 months. He was actually pretty chatty, maybe too chatty… telling me all about the troubles he was having with his teenage daughter once he realized what I did for a living. What I appreciated the most was the assistant, who doubles as a receptionist, watching my infant daughter while her boss worked on my teeth. The place is basic and meets my needs, but then I have really good teeth, so not much work to be done. On a separate note, my husband had a tooth extracted by Dr. Behm many years ago and had a great experience!

Going to Dr. Behm was a nightmare. The only reason I went to see him was because he was close to home, took my insurance, and I was between dentists. I had to have a wisdom tooth removed and a filling put in. First off, Dr. Behm really never said two words to me. I would try to ask questions, but would only answer in one or two word responses. When he removed the wisdom tooth, he did not give the local enough time to kick in and I could feel everything. I had to start yelling so he could realize that the local had not taken effect yet. He did not even apologize for that. As for the fillling, it only lasted 2 – 3 months. My new dentist said that it cracked after such a short time becuae it was not properly put in and it had not been smoothed down even with the other teeth.
I think you could get better care from a prison dentist then from Dr. Behm. He is not a nice guy and he is a horrible dentist. Do whatever you can to avoid going to him.
