I’m a n00b when it comes to comics, but I am a geek. I was really pleased to be invited for Wednesday night Wii gaming with my friends here only to suppress my «geek shrieks» in looking at the inventory.
One wall is aligned NEATLY with comic book issues. Another wall has more of your bound comic books with cool titles and some still bound in plastic that make you really really curious…
I nearly also bought the $ 25 Lord of the Rings trivial pursuit game until I realized my fiancé would kick my butt at the game.
They also have t-​shirts, cool nicknacks and a piano (?)
Dogs are allowed, and they’re super cute.

The best personal attention you can get at a comic store. They have everything you could want to read and if you finish that, they’ll get whatever you’re looking for. Stop by and see what you can find.

This is my comic book store. Whatever they don’t have they’ll order for you. They have Magic: The Gathering games weekly. The staff is knowledgeable, geeky, and friendly and the space is small but clean and full of personality. I like how it’s out of the way, so you kind of have to hunt it down, but also right next to a train station.
Once, I ordered Fables, Invincible Iron Man, and Y: The Last Man, and when they called to let me know it was available the guy couldn’t help but go, «Huh. That’s an interesting order.» as a side-​note in my voice-​mail, which I like. He just couldn’t help but share his opinion, which in geek-​related areas is very important.
Comic book stores. Filled to the brim with my people. Especially this one.

This place breaks the mold when it comes to the stereotypical «feel» of comic shops. So often they are:
a) overflowing with crap so it’s hard to find anything
b) grungy
c) jumbled
d) have kind of surly/​know-​it-​ally (well, fan-​boy) staff
e) all of the above
Not so here. This small place was well stocked but organized, with a spacious layout and not tons of back issues etc. tossed around in boxes. The word I thought of was «well-​groomed.» Nice selection of graphic novels and assorted toys etc. Welcoming staff member behind the desk who wasn’t overbearing yet didn’t seem unapproachable, and let us wander while he watched «Star Trek: TNG» on DVD, but we would not have felt uncomfortable asking him about anything.
Overall, a nice place for your comic needs.

This is the best comic shop in chicago. The comics are all bagged and boarded! Who else does that?!

This place is great!!! I’ve been out of the whole comic book thing for years but was glad to find a friendly place that could help me find my way. I really like zombie /​post apocalyptic stuff and they were glad to help me find stuff i would like. They have a cool deal now where they sell back issues by the pound… I also found some really cool graphic novels there too…

Friendliest little comic book shop in Chicago. It’s a little small, and hard to find, but the friendly owner and staff make up for it.
They almost always have what we are looking for, and are always happy to make recommendations. They also do Free Comic Book Day a lot better than the other local places.
This is also a good shop for anyone who is looking for gaming goods. They keep dice and such in stock, and have a lot of room for events such as gaming nights.

The owner and staff are very friendly. I try to get there when I can for comics. A good place to go if you need assistance.

I’ve been a customer here for about 3 years, stopping in every month or so to pick up my subscriptions (if you subscribe, you get a discount off the cover price). After two or so visits, the owners knew me and which comics I was looking for. No one here has been anything but super friendly and helpful — no condescending comic book guys here. If you want to stay and chat about Battlestar Galactica for half an hour, that’s cool. If you’ve never read comics and want to get some recommendations for something a friend or relative might like, Sean and Woody will help you out.
The store has limited space, but as I’ve said, you can subscribe to anything currently being published and pick it up when it gets in. These guys are also really helpful with ordering things they don’t have, even books that are way out-​of-​print and hard to find. There are Magic tournaments seemingly every weekend for those who are interested.
Evil Squirrel is also amazingly involved with the community and other local businesses. Recently, they’ve let customers know about the Glenwood farmer’s market (Sundays), which I never would have known about otherwise. They have also started a book club, and used the first month’s selection of Neil Gaiman’s «Neverwhere», as a way to encourage people to go see the adaptation at the nearby Lifeline Theater. Evil Squirrel is a great comic shop, but what makes me give it five stars is the way that its owners actively try to improve the neighborhood around them.

Great comics store and extremely close to the el. Hop in and hop out for me. I came here looking for a Spiderman comic for my husband. Eventhough they did not have it in the store, they were able to order it for me online. Not only that they found the lowest price for me they did not charge me anything extra. My husband was so happy. I think I am getting my best wife award soon. It was pleasure doing business with them and I will be back for sure.

Superb little shop of horrors. Great selection and $ 1 Tues & Thurs for back issues is a great thing to have on the calendar. This was first stop on our comic shop crawl and we wanted to go back before we made it through all the others… LOVE the sofa. A juice bar addition would make it perfect.

These guys were my gateway drug back into comics and MTG. Damn you! Awesome staff, great gaming community. Prices can vary, you can find some deals and some things are pricey, I’d said they’re about average as far as prices go. Neighborhood can be sketchy at times and parking is sometimes hard to find but Evil Squirrel is an awesome place to check out.

Okay, first time I’ve seen a comic shop come with a couch with stuff animals on it, but that’s awesome!
Walked about in here during the art festival going on outside. This place made me giggle a lot… the nice people behind the register geeking out about a video game, the signs everywhere that say sarcastic and funny things. I kept hunting for more!
The selection looks tiny, but sometimes it’s best to keep it that way I think. I’m glad I finally got back in here to check it out. If I knew what was waiting for me at my normal store, I might have picked something up. I’ll be more prepared next time!

Admittedly, I’m not a huge comic collector… I have a couple from back in the day when I wanted to be like my older brother who was/​is obsessed with comics. He had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so I had Radioactive Blackbelt Hamsters. Hey, I tried!
But recently a friend of mine gave me the first volume of Scapled and I became addicted! The storyline is great and the artwork is AMAZING. They just published volume 4 in June and I was foaming at the mouth to get it.
I walked into Evil Squirrel on a quest to find it – happy that they were open at 9pm – and bumped into a bunch of guys playing… um, some game with cards but I couldn’t tell which one. I asked the owner (?) for what I was looking for and guess what? Not only did they have it, but it was also on special sale! Apparently each day of the week a different publisher is on sale and Saturday was my lucky day!
Whoo hoooooo!!! I’m a big fan!

This is a really cool comic book shop, and I think the only one in Rogers Park. I happened upon it one day while walking past it’s old location near Sheridan Rd. with my friend earier this Spring.
I had a good conversation with the owner about the management company who owned the building they were renting at the time. I also have had similar problems with their former building management company as well. So, long story-​short, this is why they moved to the new locale.
Good selection, good suggestions, good additude.
I recommend Evil Squirrel for all of your comic and role playing game needs.

I came here for the first official Magic: The Gathering Game Day, which was a special annual promotional day for Wizard’s of the Coast Game Company for their award winning collectable card game Magic: The Gathering. Evil Squirrel Comics was 1 of only 2 locations in the City of Chicago that was hosting this special Game Day, and I had to go be a part of the festivities. They had one-​on-​one tournaments, and offered prizes for top contenders.
As a previous reveiwer said they are a small store, so it was pretty busy, but the owners made sure that everyone was included in the Tournament. Evil Squirrel is also Gay and Gay Bear Friendly, so I feel right at home here! All the card players are very courtious, and accomodating to new players.

This is a tiny shop front that offers a nice selection of all the current books, however, they don’t deal in back-​issues at all. They also carry some collectible games (Magic The gathering, HeroClix, etc) and have a small assortment of action figures and other toys.
They have a very active MtG group, which can make the place pretty noisy and cramped on Saturdays. (did I mention this place is small?)
Regular subscribers get a discount on new comics, and the owners make a real effort to keep their customers happy, and have also been willing to order me things that they wouldn’t ordinarily carry.
Overall, I’ve been very pleased.
