History

Established in 2010.

When Jen & Alix met, we felt and instant kinship. While both of us were already established wedding photographers in our own rights, we knew we shared a creative vision that needed to be fulfilled. Free To Be is the culmination of hours spent gushing over ethereal, earthy, romantic, offbeat, gritty, and vintage style photos, and finally realizing that our shared aesthetic would be the next logical step in both of our creative careers.

Business Owner

Free To Be Photography is comprised of Alix & Jen — an experienced photography duo with a shared aesthetic and sense of idealism. We focus on couples who are having non-​traditional celebrations in off-​beat locales. We encourage the DIY spirit and a social and environmental awareness in planning the big day. The name of this new venture is itself inspired by the most wonderful hippie ideal that everyone in the world should be «free to be» who they want to be. That pretty much sums up our view on life, and we want to reflect that spirit in our photos.

In addition to our shared sense of idealism, our like-​mindedness is complemented by our unique photographic styles. Alix can’t wait to capture the excitement and laughter; Jen loves those peaceful, serene moments. Alix likes to shoot from the center of the action; Jen likes to step back and photograph the «big picture.» We both see the beauty in every moment of a wedding day, and work collaboratively to capture that passion and energy.
