ABOUT US

Get On The Floor Dance Company is Chicago’s «new kid on the block» when it comes to providing top-​notch ballroom dance lessons. GTF specializes in private and group ballroom instruction either taught in our studio or at a location determined by our client. Our goal is to individualize each client’s experience by planning their lessons around their dance goals, as well as by teaching our students wherever they learn best. We know it is difficult to commit to a new hobby because of time and work constraints, so our goal is to make our student’s learning experience as convenient and enjoyable as it can be.

GTF Dance Co. students can choose either to take their lessons in studio (3868 N. Lincoln Ave. 2nd Floor, Chicago) or at a location that is most convenient for them. We have some clients who have party rooms or ballrooms in their condo buildings, others that prefer to learn at home, and some that prefer to come to us…

History

Established in 2012.

GTF Dance Co. opened its doors in April of 2012, but is not lacking in experience. GTF Dance Co. is owned by Steven Nasshan who has worked for both the Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray Dance Franchises.

GTF Dance Co. speciailzes in social and competitive private and group ballroom instruction. We also work with a ton of wedding couples to get them ready to have a memorable and individualized first dance for their special day. No partner is required either so if you decide dancing is something you want to do for yourself you will be paired with one of our fabulous GTF Dance Co. instructors. We call this the «Dancing with the Stars» effect.

All new students will begin with an Introductory Lesson to meet their instructor, talk about their goals, and begin learning some basics. All current students or experienced dancers will begin with an evaluation lesson to assess their goals, meet their instructor, and talk about the next step.

Business Owner

Steven Nasshan grew up on the Northwest side of Chicago. He never really had much exposure to dance as a child but got his introduction by watching musicals with his family. He began his involvement with musicals at the age of 11 and continued in the joy of that form of music and dance throughout his middle school and high school years. After he graduated from high school, Steven studied English at Northeastern Illinois as well as finding a position at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Morton Grove at the age of 19. Ballroom dancing soon became his life. In addition to dance, he has a huge passion for music. He dabbled in the music industry with an audition for American Idol and eventually working with the record label Red Zone, creating some demos…

I wish I could give them 0 stars. I don’t even know how they are still in business.
This company was an absolute joke. We signed up for our first 2 lessons, they went smoothly. The 3rd lesson we showed up to the studio and the instructor was a no call no show. Come to find out he quit, and the owner was supposed to be taking all his clients. The next week we show up for our lesson with the owner, he no called no showed, we tried for 2 days to call the company and no one answered. Finally we reached them and the secretary informed us that the owner had strep throat and didn’t see any clients. She said for the inconvenience they would give us 2 free lessons. We were told the owner would see us the following week, he wasn’t there however another instructor was sent. This lesson was ok, but he wanted to start over, come to the end of the lesson and we schedule the next lesson for the following week. I watched him put the date in his calendar on his phone, next week we show up at our scheduled time, and the same instructor looks at me and says, «Sorry I have clients right now» I asked well what about the appointment I scheduled. He claimed the company sent him a new appointment, and he must go off what the company tells him, and if we waited an hour he would try to get us in. We left and tried calling the company several times, no answer and no reply to the emails.
This was supposed to be teaching us our first dance for our wedding, I’m getting married on Saturday so this was a complete waste of time and money.
This company is absolutely the worst people I have ever dealt with, I have no idea how they are even in business.

We are the foolish couple who showed up to three dance lessons expecting to be greeted by a dance instructor waiting to teach. We left all three lessons without ever meeting with an instructor due to this «company’s» incompetent scheduling and staffing. After 6 25 min/​$ 20 cab rides up north and home we are now just one month from our wedding and haven’t been on a dance floor once. Needless to say we do not have any trust that our fourth attempt will be more successful so we will be getting our money back (from gilt city) and choosing a more reputable business. Also note that the address listed in this «business’» Unilocal page is actually the address for a studio they rent but no one is actually there to answer questions and solve problems that will most definitely arise. They don’t answer their phones either. Just avoid avoid avoid interacting/​transacting with these people.

Our experience with this «company» was horrific. They have serious scheduling and staffing issues. At one point, we showed up to learn that our instructor had quit that day. The company did not take responsibility, they said they don’t have visibility on all of their instructor schedules and therefore couldn’t call to make cancellations. Ridiculous! We then moved on with another instructor, the owner, with little time remaining before our wedding. He rescheduled on several occasions, then took a medical leave. We were willing to work with yet another instructor, but there was little flexibility in their scheduling. We finally agreed to take a refund for our remaining classes as they could not accommodate us. When I followed up on the refund, my messages were entirely ignored. Long store short, I’m out $ 180. This is very far from being a legitimate business and I would certainly not recommend it. We moved onto Duet dance company, and had an excellent experience. They prepared for our lesson in advance based on the information given them. They were efficient and organized. This was a nice change from our previous experience!

Get on the Floor is phenomenal! My partner and I have been taking lessons at Get on the Floor for about 7 months now and we LOVE Steve and Franny! They are both so patient, knowledgeable, and fun… even when my two left feet dominate an entire lesson. They are super affordable and even let us set up a payment plan to accommodate our financial needs. The instructors bring an incredible energy to each lesson that inspires you to soak up their wealth of knowledge and give all you’ve got on the floor. I definitely recommend Get on the Floor to all of my friends and look forward to many more months of dancing and laughing.

My girlfriend and I had been talking about taking dance lessons, and when a Living Social deal for five hours of private dance instruction popped up, we grabbed it. Having finished all five sessions, I would recommend Get on the Floor to anyone, but especially to beginners since that was my experience with them. Our instructor was Franny, who was not only talented but patient, good-​humored, and a clear communicator to two people who didn’t speak the language of ballroom dance whatsoever. The company was professional and let customers know exactly what to expect with each lesson. Each of our 60-​minute sessions was split between the foxtrot, waltz, jitterbug, tango, and salsa to give us a sense of each style. In one of our sessions, Steve joined and we paired off so we could have the individual attention of two instructors and grow stronger in our respective lead/​follow roles. We each felt we finished that particular session stronger in our technique. The company was GLBTQ-​friendly, the facility was clean, bright and spacious, and parking was never an issue at the time we went on weekend mornings. Last, Get on the Floor was very welcoming, making sure we knew of social events where we might join other dancers and practice our newfound skills. We were unable to continue with dance lessons after the five lessons were finished, but we will gladly return if we are able to commit again.

We did an intro lesson with Franny which was a total blast. She put as at complete ease and taught us a bunch of new steps that we know we will use again. She was excellent! Looking forward to returning and taking more lessons:)

Get On The Floor is one of the best places to step outside your comfort zone and learn to dance. Owner/​Instructor Steve and Manager/​Instructor Franny are so warm and welcoming. They are truly interested in the students’ learning style and customize the dance program for the individual or couples goal. I HIGHLY recommended this studio to anyone who wants to start or continue their ballroom education!

Hitting up salsa clubs is way more fun when you know what you’re doing :)
My wife and I have been doing private instruction for over 5 months now and we have learned a ton more than I thought possible in such a short period of time. Our instructors have been super supportive and fun to work with. We practice a few different dances each lesson, which is great since many of the steps are quite similar between dances.
Communication with Steve and Franny has been fantastic, they’re pretty flexible when it comes to scheduling and planning lessons around the dances we want to focus on.
Bottom line: these folks rock! If you’re looking to learn to dance you should definitely give Get on the Floor a look — my wife and I jumped in feet first and have had a blast!
