Wow, drove slowly to increase my fare from O’Hare to the Loop, did not help w/​my luggage, and then had me pay via his telephone, NOT the swipe machine in the back seat (#314). I needed a receipt for work and when it came, via email it only had the driver’s name on it which I am unsure will even be approved. Tried to call Globe and heard a menu of names; I chose one based on the ownership I could find via the city’s website, and when I went to leave a message, I was hung up on. Do not use them!!!

BEWARE!!! These guys will rip you off! We just came into Chicago to visit family and we waited in line to hail a cab. Unfortunately we got into Globe Taxi Assn. Long story short. Driver told us that he would have to charge us time and a half to take us to my family’s home. Due to my parents home town was not on on his list, taped behind the front passenger seat.
Tired and hungry we agreed. When got to our destination and the meter read $ 23.67. Well he asked us what the meter read and I told him $ 23.67. Then he was calculating something on paper and told me my bill was $ 51.45. I was shocked and pissed. I told him that was not time and a half. Insisted he was not over charging me. After a couple of minutes arguing. I agreed just to get out of his smelly cab. I told him I’m going to use my credit card. He told me not to, because he didn’t want to pay the taxes.
So please, do not use this company. You have been warned.

DO NOT USE GLOBE TAXI. The driver told me his credit card machine was broken AFTER I had swiped my debit card. He then asked for cash. When I informed him that I did not have any cash, he phoned into a dispatcher and asked for my card. I was not comfortable giving him my card, so I read the number to the dispatcher. Sure enough, I was charged twice, despite the credit card machine being «broken.» Globe Taxi is refusing to credit back the duplicate charge. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

If taxi 1019 is representive of their drivers, I won’t be taking any of them, ever. This morning he nearly ran me over, despite my being halfway across the street, in the crosswalk, with my hand up for him to wait on his right turn. He didn’t. Crossed about 2 feet in front of me. Had I not been looking, I would be in the ER, pedestrian right-​of-​way or no.

Why is it so difficult to phone for a taxi in Chicago? There seems to be a puzzling lack of interest and customer service skills among nearly every company, including one, Home James Chicago, that said they’d check on a «city car» for $ 78 and then disconnected the call. All told, I phoned six companies and had nothing to show for it. Finally, it was Globe Taxi Assn., at 773−725−6500, that was able to confirm a taxi for us; it did take them a half-​hour and then we had another 15-​minute wait before the cab arrived, but everything was good after that. The vehicle (no.4259), a Toyota Prius, was clean and quiet, and the driver, Gazi Mashal, was polite and showed a sense of humor. Our fare came to $ 19.05 and I gave him $ 40 and my appreciation.

How frustrating!!! My car had just broken down and I needed a cab home. I used Über bc all my friends had raved about it. Got hooked up with this moron. I was at the Cumberland blue line. He showed up at Rosemont looking for me. He called, we straightened that out… One would hope. Then it took 10 – 15 minutes of me on the phone with him crossing over the highway twice trying to make it easier for him to find me because he couldn’t follow directions. Finally figured out where to pick me up from and he wants to make excuses for why he couldn’t find me. Dude!!! Shut up! I don’t care. I have already spoken with you entirely too much when you were supposed to be providing me a service that you evidently are unfit to provide. My Über cab ended up costing me $ 10 for a normally $ 7 ride. So what’s the benefit of this service?

First, it was a female cab driver, which made me feel more comfortable. (I’m sure that’s not normal for Globe, since like 90% of cabbies are male.) She was very friendly, and the cab didn’t smell like smoke or anything, like they sometimes do. We were chatting when I was getting out, and I forgot my purse. I noticed about 20 minutes later at home. I called 311, and since I remembered the cab company and number, I was able to get to a dispatch center, which then gave me the number for their cashier. The cashier called the cabbie on her cell phone and then called me back to let me know that she had found the purse. We arranged for me to pick it up at the garage today, and when I got there, it was there in perfect condition and with everything still in it. All the people I interacted with were very friendly and helpful, going above and beyond what I think would be normal.

On Tuesday, 5/​17, I decided to take a cab to work to save me some time, as I was running behind. I flagged down a Globe taxi (number 6865) and provided my address (near Huron and Orleans). Driver asked how I wanted to go, I yielded to his expertise. He said he’d take LSD, which is NORMALLY a reasonable route.
That is UNTIL the driver goes from Belmont all the way to Irving Park before cutting over to LSD. Also UNTIL the driver goes all the way south to Grand instead of exiting at a reasonable exit like Lasalle or Michigan. In both cases, I questioned the behavior, to which I got a mumbled response.
In the end, a ride that should have been a maximum of 4.5 miles (3.4−4.2 miles according to Google Maps) took 7.4 miles, and instead of costing the usual $ 10 – 11, it cost $ 18.45 before tip. When we FINALLY arrived at my destination, I indicated that wasn’t the fastest or cheapest route by far, to which he responded that this was his second day (not sure I believe that) and he didn’t know the best route. AND he was talking on his cell phone the whole time, apparently calling out the streets he was taking or talking about streets in general (most was in a foreign language).
My Problems:
1) If he didn’t know how to get to my destination, he should have made it clear and asked.
2) When I indicated the discrepancies, the driver didn’t offer to compensate me and didn’t seem very apologetic
3) I could have taken public transportation and arrived as quickly as I did with the cab — talk about wasted money.
4) Either the driver lied to me or the company is putting unprepared drivers in the field without the info/​tools they need. Imagine if this guy had a GPS, at least!
Bottom line: Avoid GlobeTaxi Association cabs.

atm gave me a ripped twenty. whatever. good enough to pay for a cab, right? handed it to the driver and the guy went ballistic on me. swore up a red line. nice. guess which cab company i will never use again. anything that say globe on the side. can’t believe i was treated so poorly. honestly, learn some manners. what a waste of skin.

MAD love for the taxis that have credit card swipe machines firmly in place. And who doesn’t love a company with a vaguely international name?
Friendly, polite drivers to boot. It makes me happy to pay these guys for a ride.

If you didn’t want to take on a short fare that was paying with a credit card, you shouldn’t have agreed to pick us up. Remember how I EXPLICITLY had the bellman ask if you took credit cards?
Remember how I EXPLICITLY told you where we were going?
Did you think I was going to fall for your stupid little game with the dispatcher that my card was declined?
As I told you to your face, Ted, you’re a game player and a jerk. I don’t have patience for people who waste my time; what you did was bad karma.
