Great little shop for prepared Korean food. Their kimbap and korean fried chicken wings are excellent. I also tried their sliced pig knuckle, which came with a yummy umami-type sauce — I think there’s some miso paste in it. So good — though I don’t really know what the proper way to eat it is. in a lettuce wrap? As far as being a grocery store, it’s not really a great place to go for fresh produce. Just dry goods or frozen items, and even then the selection is very limited. I did buy some Korean pears, which were super pricey, but really tasty and fresh. I’d definitely recommend coming here for lunch or snack, but stick to Joong Boo for the grocery items.

This review is solely on the prepared foods that they have. When I’m craving Korean food, I come here to pick up a bunch of the prepared food to eat at home. Think of this place as an Asian convenient store with good, cheap eats. Ddukbokki: the containers are packed with rice cake and fish cake, and the sauce is spicy but not too overwhelming. I really enjoy this, especially at $ 3 – 4. Kimbap: exactly what it should taste like, this is a simple dish that is really hard to mess up. $ 2.99 for a roll, $ 5.99 for double rolls yo Japchae: $ 3 – 4 for a container filled with japchae and vegetables; also good. Pancakes: I’ve had the assorted pancakes for around $ 4 – 5, and each one was good. Make sure to either re-fry them or bake them, and if you have ddukbokki, dip it in that sauce. Overall, do not expect this place to wow your taste buds as if you were eating the world’s finest truffle. Instead, you are just eating simple, good food for under $ 5.

A corner store for all of your Korean food needs. They have a little bit of produce, bakery items, snacks, drinks, sauces, kimchee, and frozen foods(fish, desserts, etc.). Best of all they have some of the tastiest ready to go foods. My favorite are the different banchans(most of them just $ 2.99 and you get a pretty good quantity) — the best is the roasted fish cakes — but they also have grilled mackerel, Korean pancakes, Korean BBQ marinated raw meats, jap chee, a kit for bibimbop, etc. Prices look very fair and all of the food has been very fresh. Definitely smaller than Bryn Mawr Food Market or Joong Boo but I prefer to go here for a cleaner and much nicer atmosphere. Definitely go check it out!

Passed this place so many times, glad I finally made it in, but sad I live far away. Ready-made foods all looked well-made. Picked up some squid and pumpkin/squash soup and both were good. Saw the skate from Lorenzo’s review did a double take. Will be getting that next time along with the jellyfish dish mentioned below.

I live off of Argyle and while I understand that most of the markets around here are Vietnamese oriented, I went to three separate stores looking for gochujang and was unable to find it anywhere off argyle or Broadway. This market is small, but has everything you could need for great Korean cuisine

Great place to go to in the neighborhood if you don’t want to go to hmart or joong boo market. The place is small, but the people working here are very friendly and the prices are good!

All 11 of U Unilocalers who took the time to review Go Hyang Market(GHM) rock! This is def the kind of neighborhood place we want to see thrive. From reading your reviews, it’s a sure bet that all of us have made the trek to Joong Boo Market & H Mart. Is the location of Go Hyang all that? Well, if you’re a food obsessed person living in River North or Hyde Park… I think not. But if you live far North… it’s closer than the«H». Go Hyang is all about the«quality», not the«quantity». If you are looking for free samples of dumplings or spicy ramen, don’t come here. Ain’t gonna happen. Does it have the variety of products of the«H» and Joong Boo? No, it does not. But if you are looking to make a Korean recipe, or a quick lunch or dinner entrée, it will probably have what you need. The beauty of the place is what all of you commented upon. «Prepared food». Whether it be banchan(Korean little dishes) or prepared take away food Go Hyang will exceed your expectations. All the prepared fish is cooked to perfection. Steamed skate wing falls off the bone & the fried sole is perfect when heated in the nuke. The banchan are freshly made. Beans sprouts and spinach have a little crunch,(evidence that they haven’t been sitting around). Yo, yo, bet you never tried acorn jelly,(Admittedly…I hadn’t either) But it looked so good, that I had to do an impulse purchase at the cash register. I’m so glad I did. GHM is a keeper.

A great neighborhood market that specializes in Korean foods. They have a limited produce selection. A ton of selection on grains. They have a lot of pickled and ready made foods. They sell things like Kimbap($ 2.99 single, $ 5.99 double), Chapchae($ 3.99), Fish Cakes, etc. If I wanted some ready made Korean food, I would venture here because it is close enough to me.

A great alternative to a trek down to Joong Boo or up to H-Mart — either buy the kimchi here or pick up the ingredients to make kimchi including gochujang and gochugaru. The place seems to be a run by a family and it is enjoyable to shop in a basic, Korean market without the madness and scale of other establishments.

Fantastic independently owned Korean grocery store. Korean food is prepared daily, and they have a selection of marinated meats like Kalbi and Bul Go Gi that you can make at home. This is my go to for all things Korean.

This has become my go to place for all things Korean. Not as overwhelming and crowded as Joong Boo and not as difficult to get to as H-Mart. I have definitely fallen for this place. Directly off the Lincoln and California bus stops it is much easier to get to than the above mentioned stores. Highlights: the in-house prepared dishes. They rotate or seem to rotate the dishes but you can find all your favorites INCLUDING soups and stews at very reasonable prices. A plus for me is that the dishes are prepared and ready in the morning but they continue to cook through the day so there is always something fresh(hot or cold) whether you stop by in the morning on a Saturday or afterwork on a Tuesday. They have all the basics to stock your pantry, including multiple varieties of ramen and in-house msg-free kimchi. They don’t have everything and no housewares but you won’t have to worry about tripping over small children or being punched by old ladies. The $.99 peppero doesn’t hurt either.

Probably my favorite place to get pre-prepared Korean Food in Chicago. I definitely prefer going here than Chicago Food Corp or HMart. The food is delicious, cheaper, and it’s easier to park. Also, it looks like they just expanded the pre-prepared section inside the store. My favorites are: Gagpong-Chicken Wings Kim Bop Fish Cakes Saba-Mackeral(both the pan fried and stew) Kimchee Variations(cucumber, squid&dikon, etc) Wasabi Crab Salad

Little korean market with a cute name. «Little hometown» Market. The owners are nice and the food selection is good as well. They cater and did a great job with the korean appetizers for my cousin’s anniversary party. Check this place out. They do a great job. Kimchi, Kim-bob, and Chopchae :) Yum-O! Get your korean food fix here!

I’m so glad I stopped here one day instead of fighting the crowds at Joong Boo! Yes it’s small, but it’s chock full of stuff. They have all the basics you might need if you are learning how to cook Korean food(like me) and they have a good selection of pre-made foods if you don’t have the patience to make banchan(like Mr. W.). And their prices seem good. I appreciated the fact that they would help me out with my questions about ingredients, and I will definitely go back!

Good precooked food such as soups and banchan. I also like their ready to cook marinated galbi. But other grocery items can be quite expensive.

I am addicted to their Jellyfish salad. I praise the day I was introduced to this dish. OMG! In case you have no idea what the salad is like, it’s basically thin sliced strips of jellyfish, cucumber, and some other veggies, all mixed with Korean mustard. The salad is very refreshing and the taste it leaves in your mouth is similar to sushi dipped in wasabi sauce. Yums! There aren’t many restaurants in Chicago that serve this dish but this particular store and the ajimas who work in the back make this dish. As I sat and recalled the taste of the salad I made a call to the store to save last item for me.

This little Korean grocery store is right next to Woo Chon Korean barbeque. It’s tiny so quantities and selections are limited. They have a small kitchen that churns out prepared food packages, such as pan-fried fish fillet, scallion pancakes, etc. They also sell dried seasoned squid and soy sauce flavored black bean. Occasionally they have persimmon or Korean pear at bargain prices. Its English name as printed on the receipt is «My Home Town Market.»
