Established in 1956.

The Graham Foundation was created in 1956 by a bequest from Ernest R. Graham (1866 – 1936), a prominent Chicago architect who was a protégé of Daniel Burnham.

The foundation is housed in a beautiful building in a great neighborhood. However I found the current exhibit very underwhelming and the staff less than enthused. Not really worth a casual visit.

This is an extremely cool hidden gem of a cultural institution here in Chicago. Located in a beautiful, turn of the century, Prarie-​style mansion in the Gold Coast, the Graham Foundation hosts interesting small exhibits on offbeat topics in the realm of art, architecture and design. All of the exhibits are free; the space is absolutely lovely; and the book store has a fascinatingly curated collection of design, art and architecture books. Seriously a rad place to learn something interesting on the cheap!

This is a gem on one of the most beautiful residential streets in Chicago, just a few blocks east of Clark St. The building used to be a private residence and is now used for exhibitions and free lectures relating to architecture. Become a Facebook friend and get email notices. The lectures I’ve attended have been about cutting edge archiceture (nothing stuffy here!)

The Graham Foundation was nice enough to host a private viewing for one of their exhibits for a group of people from my company. The house is beautiful, the exhibits were impressive, and I especially liked the library. Every book in the library was written by someone who received a grant from the Graham Foundation.

This fine residential building in the Gold Coast was designed by architect Richard Schmidt and designer Hugh Garden in 1902. Note the interesting organic and geometric forms in the details. It is now the base for the Graham Foundation, a noted organization of art and architectural studies.
