Keep in mind what this place REALLY is, and if you are still in the market for what it offers, it maybe the best place in Chicago for it. Allow me to explain in simpler terms… What this place is or has: — Wholesale meat distributor — Plenty of on-site butchers to keep up with cutting on demand — Their business is primarily for restaurants who order in bulk — This is a PROCESSING facility, which means the nitty-gritty work is done here(though, I’m unsure if actual slaughtering is done here) — Almost every cut and part is available for purchase here since they are dealing with the whole animal What this place is NOT, or does NOT have: — An overtly sterilized showroom with butchers in gleaming white coats packing pre-cut meat for you to take home — A clearly marked door for outside consumers to walk in and get what they want(just walk in, and someone will point out where to go to place your order or to see what they have ready) — A comfortable area to wait in line to buy your meat — A household consumer friendly one-stop-shop for all things BBQ(this is meat and only meat) When you put these things together, in my opinion, you have EXACTLY what you need to buy fresh meat(these people distribute to restaurants and probably many grocery stores directly) to go about your cooking, BBQ, recipe, etc., and to get it done at a fraction of the price you’ll pay almost anywhere else. I’d call this place dirt cheap, but adding a word that means unclean is not accurate. The entire operation is an icebox(felt damn good walking in there on a 90 degree day) and nothing looked to be dirty at all. I’m confident things are«clean» and fresh and when you consider how much cuts are, you’ll then see just how steep a standard mark up is at places like Jewel, Dominick’s and other grocers. Considering this place’s specialty is the pig, you can get a lot of pork for very little money. Hams for about $ 1.50/pound. Pork Butts for about the same. Pigs ears, kidneys, livers, skins, etc. They also had a lot of cuts of beef available, and I watched as someone had a butcher cut individual steaks for him. If you are a little queasy around raw meat or feel a little twinge in your stomach during that scene in Rocky where he runs through the meat plant punching a side of beef– then head on down to Olympia shiny store front where you’ll find those butchers with the bleached coats. If you are looking for tremendous value and pretty much any cut of pig/beef/chicken you want– come to Grant Park Packing.

i’ve been meaning to check out the retail meat packing stores on and around fulton market and finally stumbled across this one. i was peeping thru the glass door as i saw two men wrapping pigs of all sizes from my height, 5’8″ and smaller. each pig was hanging upside down on a moving rail on the ceiling. lol. what an interesting sight! i love blood and gory things so if you can’t handle things like this, don’t even bother coming in. anyway, the workers were very welcoming, gesturing me with their hands to come inside. they let me and my friend take pictures with hanging pigs. ha! and showed us the way to retail meat. this is a perfect place to purchase good quality, large quantities of pork and everything else edible inside a pig plus meat and sausages! when you walk in, it’s like a buffet of raw meat. everything from liver, hooves, feet, intestines, ground meat, ground pork, ribs, etc. were all neatly piled in orderly bunches. prices are not that much cheaper than jewel but it’s better quality for the price you pay at jewel. next time you’re throwing a bbq, stop in here!

If you are looking for a clean, customer-oriented place with signs and so on, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for parts of the pig that most butchers dont have fresh(jowls, back fat, kidneys, etc.), this is one of the best places in Chicago to go to. They have every part of the pig you can imagine and at extremely low rates! The whole thing is an experience – you walk into a refrigerated hall with blood soaked floors and dozens of people are hurling pieces of pig around… its a dream. So, if you’re like me and want to make guanciale with jowls or cure a bunch of belly, or do confit with it and don’t want to pay huge amounts, this is your place. Plus, everything is super fresh since they usually sell wholesale and therefore have enormous turnover(they process several thousand hogs a day). If you want a shopping experience more exciting than usual and want to buy parts you are worried you won’t find elsewhere, this is the place for you!

This place is great! u can pick up whole pigs, lambs, goats you’ll see em hanging from the meat hook when your walking the store. They specialize in pork, and if you are interested in making you own sausage they sell huge bags of unseasoned ground sausage pork + boxes of casing. I buy a lot of my steak here. Yesterday i picked up outer skirt steak for $ 2.70 a pound! When you buy beef here it comes vacuum sealed, and requires some more trimming when you get home, but it is well worth it. In the case of the outer skirt steak i picked up yesterday i grilled it with all the fat on no trimming at all tastes amazing just like tango sur! Go here and have a look if you want to save some $$$$ and get top of the line product. Check out there web site to see what cuts the sell don’t be shy ask questions i found the staff to be very friendly
