2015 was a year of many changes. My husband and I moved into a larger apartment within our neighborhood (I finallly have a dining room!) and I took an even larger promotion within my career. 2015 is also the year that I finally met Dr. Sims and his wonderful staff. Is it possible to say that a root canal and a crown placement were highlights of my 2015? And that I actually had fun (gasp) during such procedures? It is when you go to Dr. Sims! The entire expierence –from booking an appt., first exam, root canal, post placement and crown placement went without a hitch. Nissa is fabulous at her job. She was able to get me in within a timely manner, had my insurance paperwork completed and she laughed at my jokes (which I’m a sucker for). Such a laid-​back setting (palm tree beach scene on the ceiling and reggae music playing in the background –I kid you not) and vibe but still maintaining an aire of professionalism. I immediately felt comfort in knowing that I was in good hands. Dr. Sims is simply lovely and so approachable. I didn’t feel put on the spot or put to shame for my abcessing tooth. Being born with a cleft lip and palate, I have had my fair share of dentists, specialists and the like but my experiences with Dr. Sims and staff were by far the best. This year, I hope to avoid any painful tooth issues but I readily look forward to continuing my dental care with Dr. Sims.

I have never had a better dentist. All of their work is exceptional, the staff is very helpful with appointments and insurance. They make everything so easy for me. Implants went great. I had a cracked tooth and they got me in right away and made the crown and put it in all in the same day. Could not be better.

A few months back I would have given them 5 stars even though they forgot about me for 2 weeks. I went in with in excruciating tooth pain. And Dr. Sims was very attentive, however I was to have some teeth extracted. And the receptionist forgot to follow up with me and they left me with this pain for 2 weeks. Upon realizing they did this they were very apologetic and even offered a discount (which I never received). But all in all it did end up well and I wanted to use him as my dentist for good. I planned on seeing him again for a cleaning and check up. Unfortunately yesterday morning I was brushing my teeth and came across an indescribable pain. Ands couldn’t bite down on anything. So I tried contacting the office today and got no answer. So I personally contacted Dr. Sims and he told me to call tomorrow and see someone else because he wouldn’t be in
so I told him I’d rather wait for him and seem on Thursday. And ask for something for pain and his response was sorry you shouldn’t have waited so long! And I’m welcome to find a new dentist. So needless to say I’m very appalled at that response. I just thought he was a all around person than that.

I’m only giving 5* because I don’t have the option to give more. I would give 500* if I could. Every aspect of my treatment was so far beyond perfect, from the pre-​customer service which started with regular contact from the office many weeks before my surgery. I had a lengthy treatment which involved sedation. I was made to feel so comfortable. Every person in the office is so friendly and helpful and makes you feel totally at ease. Needless to say I didn’t feel a thing during my procedure and there was not a jot of pain after. The office is very welcoming. It’s not sterile in any way and in no way represents a «typical» dentists office. I’m really struggling to find a negative and I can’t. If you are at all nervous about dentists or like me can’t do Novocaine and need sedation you MUST se Dr. Sims. If you are neither of these and need a dental procedure you MUST see Dr. Sims.

Tried to call the office several times for help selecting a plan that they would take. I was trying to be proactive in ensuring that I my financial bases covered before digging myself a massive hole of dental debt.
First I was told that they took «All PPO plans.» While this sounded dubious, I identified a specific plan and called to verify that they would take it. I was told that even though it was a PPO, they did not accept it. I was told that the only PPO they would take was Cigna’s PPO. So, I identified a Cigna PPO plan and tried to verify that they office was in-​network. The secretary at the office stopped accepting my calls and refused to call me back. I was able to speak with the insurance company who confirmed they are not in network.
I had a friend call (because they were ducking my calls at this point… very professional). She was told that they only take group plans. Either the secretary is clueless or just woefully unhelpful. In either event, I needed help, I was sent their way, and they did next to nothing for me.

I really enjoyed my experience with Dr. Sims and the staff.
I had called several offices to extract a fractured molar as soon as possible. A few oral surgeons wanted me to come in one day for a consultation then another day to actually go through the extraction. I wasn’t waiting, or paying $ 1000+, for that.
Unilocal helped me find Dr. Sims, and was able to get in sooner than every other office I called. Even though I’ve never been there, they said the whole appointment should take about an hour.
The treatment areas are a bit dated and worn, but everything is plenty functional and retro-​fitted with some fancy upgrades. They do have a cozy waiting area with nice leather chairs.
Getting an extraction is never fun, but Dr. Sims and the staff are pros. They took some neat 3D imaging of my mouth to which Dr. Sims and I geeked out. Then I was taken to the chair with a screen that displayed soothing crashing island waves, was handed the glare blocking glasses, while Dr. Sims applied the local anesthetic (I opted for this over the Dr-​recommended gas because I needed to get back to work).
Dr. Sims is a really friendly and approachable professional. We chatted about medical vs. dental industry trends as my mouth become more heavy with anesthesia.
As he and the dental assistant cranked out my molar, he regularly checked in to see if I was comfortable and narrated what he was doing and what to expect («You’re going to feel some pressure… a lot more pressure… maybe some funny noises… this might feel weird’). The thing is, I felt pressure, but no pain, and certainly not uncomfortable. It was really awesome. The procedure went perfectly. And all in an hour.
The check-​in and check-​out process went smoothly.
I was so impressed by how straight-​forward and easy it was to get a tricky, time-​sensitive dental problem solved with Dr. Sims. I highly recommend this office!

Dr. Sims is fantastic. I went to a different dentist who wanted to pull a molar right then and there, but Dr. Sims didn’t rush me on it (though I did get it pulled), and after follow up appointments he even texted me to see if I was ok.
I highly recommend him and I really hate going to the dentist.

I stayed up all night trying to find the right dentist. I finally decided on Dr. Sims. In part because of the excellent reviews, in part because of the big shiny offer of «New Patients $ 49 Exam & X-​Rays!». I called to schedule an appointment and was told they no longer have that offer, and it is now $ 198. False advertizing and disappointing. Please update your website. I hope to update my review at some point in the future.

Thanks to Dr. Sims there is now no need to fear the dentist! I have had many procedures in his chair and each experience was virtually painless. The office staff and assistants are very kind and professorial. If you need a dentist and are feeling a bit worried or afraid, Dr. Sims is the dentist for you.

Dr. Simms and his staff have terrible customer service. Dr. Simms recommended that my wife get some procedures done. A few months later his assistant called my wife and offered her the services at a discount. She was having second thoughts about getting the procedure done — she wasn’t sure she needed it — and when she called to ask some questions, she was again pressured into getting the procedures done. The morning of, she decided to not go through with the procedures. Understandably, there was a fee for canceling the day of and when she called to cancelled the woman on the phone was veryrude and told her that the cancellation fee was higher than what it was originally.
My wife called to ask Dr. Simms directly about the discrepancy. Instead of answering her questions, he told her he didn’t know what the fee was and yelled at her to stop wasting his time.
To recap — they will pressure you into getting procedures that you may not need, they are not consistent with there cancellation fees, and have very poor customer service. There are a lot of other more professional options for dentists in Edgewater, like Dr. John Sfikas.

Dr. Sims and his staff are amazing! I moved to Chicago 2 ½ years ago and had no idea what dentist I should go to. I looked on Unilocal and found Dr. Sims in my neighborhood (Andersonville). I went and I have only ever had two cavity fillings in my whole life. The first filling was done by a dentist in another state and I was so scared I made him give me the funny/​laughing gas. Well Dr. Sims is so nice and laid back that he filled my cavity without any gas required! He made absolutely sure that the anesthesia had kicked in before he did anything and I didn’t have any pain at all! My wife has a bridge and a lot of dental issues and he has been absolutely amazing for her as well. I just have to say that his staff both front office and hygienists are totally awesome too. I have been to a lot of doctors where I loved the doctor but the office staff was terribly rude or just flat out mean and this is NOT the case at Dr. Sims. His staff are absolutely lovely, they remember you, and your partner/​wife/​spouse whatever and they are just generally fabulous. I’m in my 30s and Dr. Sims and his staff are the absolute best dentistry I have ever visited. I just moved out of state last month and I am totally devastated that I have to find a new dentist. If you’re in the area totally give them a try! They’re awesome!!!

I went here a few times and it seemed like a good office, with modern equipment. Then I saw a different dentist there, not Dr. Sims, who told me I had cracks in ta few teeth and would need to have crowns put in, blah, blah, blah. Well, after some bad experiences with dental «professionals», I’ve learned to ask questions and get a second opinion. Went to another dentist who informed me that my teeth were fine, maybe a couple to keep an eye on, but nothing immediate or drastic needed to be done. This was about 3 years ago, and my teeth are still doing well, no crowns, cavities, or issues. Just because staff is «nice» and the equipment is modern (the dentist tried to tell me that their highly advanced equipment gave them a better diagnostic edge) doesn’t mean they are competent or have your best interests in mind.

My insurance changed and I got sucked into a plan that is limited. Spent the last 2 years trying to find a place that is as good as this place. After my last cleaning at another dentist that was as good as my mouthwash, I decided its time to go back to see Dr Sims. This time I paid out of pocket and the only thing I regret was leaving Dr Sims 2 years go. My mouth hasn’t felt this clean since my last cleaning with Dr Sims. Staff are friendly and I feel comfortable. Dr Sims is big in technology too so that’s an added plus!

I went to see Dr. Sims after a few, ahem, years of not going to dentists due to my outright panic around getting dental work done. Once I sat down in the chair to have fillings done, I voiced my anxieties and Dr. Sims could not have been better about it. He was incredibly sensitive to my concerns and did a fantastic job at both allaying them while doing a bang-​up job on the cavities!
I could not be more thrilled in my new choice of dentists as Dr. Sims and his impeccable staff are the best in the biz. Please go to them if you’re shopping for a dentist in the North side, you’ll be glad you did.

I am so thrilled to have discovered Dr Sims Dentistry… I’ve been going for years and won’t be going anywhere else (even if I move from the area). Dr Sims & his staff are SO pleasant. very friendly and understanding.
From the warm smiles at the reception desk through the entire exam or procedure, it’s obvious that everyone sincerely works to provide exceptional quality care throughout your duration in the dentist’s chair AND during your healing time afterward.

I love going to this office. The dentist and the office staff are all friendly and helpful. I’m always able to get in quickly, never wait long, and my appointments are thorough and efficient. I had to get a few cavities filled and the experience went as pleasantly as possible. I even missed an appointment once and they called to remind me and reschedule without sounding remotely annoyed.

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 4 years. I finally looked up a new dentist and found Dr. Sims right here on Unilocal.He had a great special going on for new patients which included X-​Rays and Cleaning. Dr. Sims pulled the xrays up on the computer in front of me and walked me through exactly what he was looking for. Dr. Sims even did the majority of my cleaning which was very surprising!
I was absolutely thrilled with my experience. Not only was Dr. Sims extremely friendly, he really seemed to care if there was anything bothering me in my mouth and asked many questions to make sure he wasn’t missing anything. From his office staff to him, everyone gets 5 Stars. I’ll definitely be back and I’m glad to say I’ve found a new dentist and new dental office!

I have had a LOT of work done here in the past couple of years — root canals, fillings, even an extraction. I only have myself to blame but my teeth are in better shape now and getting better with each cleaning.
I’ve always been treated so kindly here by the entire staff all the way up to Dr. Sims himself. Dental work is not cheap but they really try to work everything out so it’s not so painful (physically and financially).

I’ll start by saying that if I could base my review on the friendliness of the office staff and competence of the hygienist, this practice would get 5 stars.
My dentist of 32 years retired and I don’t want to keep driving out to the suburbs for his replacement. So, I found Dr. Sims on Unilocal as the highest rated dentist in my neighborhood. I was looking for a dentist that I could be in a relationship with for the next 32 years. One who I could trust to be in partnership with me for the sake of my oral health.
Unfortunately, Dr. Sims fell short of the mark. The biggest reason that I will not go back to him is that he recommended a procedure after the initial consultation for a problem that I did not have. This should always be a red flag for a new practitioner, or car mechanic for that matter. So, I went to my periodontist –who had already looked at that tooth in question once– to see if his original diagnosis, to wait until it became a problem, had changed.
He confirmed my instinct that the laser therapy that Dr. Sims had prescribed was a «hustle» and that I should find a new dentist. He explained that the laser therapy had a few miracle cases but that it didn’t work most of the time, especially on «hopeless» cases, like mine. He said the dentists that bought the expensive equipment based on the case studies the salesperson gave them then had to pay it off by prescribing it liberally.
If Dr. Sims had explained this to me, even if he phrased less harshly, and gave me reasons for why he thought I was a good candidate, I would have felt like he respected my intelligence enough to involve me in my own health choices. As it was, when I asked for the full name of the treatment (so I could research it), I felt like he was dismissive of my question as he answered it. This, after not introducing himself before sticking his hands into my mouth was enough to make me ask my awesome periodontist for a different recommendation.
Since I don’t want to spend the next three decades second guessing my dentist’s recommendations, I am now seeing Dr. Azim and am very happy.

It only takes one terrible dental experience to create a vicious cycle. For me, this happened several years ago, when the woman was anything but gentle and scolded me the entire session for my «terrible» habits (which is just a lie, thankyouverymuch). I’ve never cried in a dentist’s chair before, but I did that day because she decided not to be remotely gentle. So I hadn’t been back since, mostly out of anxiety that the same scenario would repeat with any dentist.
I can happily say that Dr. Sims completely changed my outlook. Part of a filling fell out a few weeks ago, and I was concerned for the my gums in the front of my mouth, so I knew it was time to suck it up and go. Unilocal clearly crowned him the winner for my neighborhood, so I made an appointment, and it was flawless from start to finish. All of the front desk staff are funny and sweet, and set the tone for a good visit. Amanda, the hygienist, is my hero. My suspicions about my gums were correct, and she told me that I’d need scaling and root planing, which she described thoroughly. I then met Dr. Sims, and he scoped out my filling, which he’d fill at the end of my procedure. Typically I’d be a nervous wreck, but after talking to them I felt completely at ease and fully prepared.
The procedure was divided into two parts over a three-​week period, because so much numbing was involved (and it would just be cruel to do it all at once). Amanda constantly checked in with me to make sure that I wasn’t in pain, and if I was, she’d stop and numb me a little more. Dr. Sims did the same with my filling, taking me step-​by-​step through his process and making sure I was comfortable. I have to return in a month to see how my gums have progressed, which will determine how often I should come in for cleanings, but I’m already seeing results. My gums look healthier and don’t bleed when I brush or floss. Success!
I’ve never had a more pleasant experience at the dentist, and because of this, I will absolutely continue as Dr. Sims’ patient.
