Groucho’s Bar & Grill

I went to this bar in like 2008 and it was your typical late night south side bar. I went there last night and it’s turned into gang banger central. Everybody is throwing gang signs, but I guess on the plus side everyone there seemed to be in the same gang. There were people doing cocaine in the bathroom, and the bouncers had to constantly regulate everything because it always felt like any moment a fight was going to break out. If you’re just trying to get a late night beer this might not be the place for you. But if you’re into getting stabbed or you are in need of hooking up with someone that looks like an extra from a 90s cholo movie, then you my friend are in luck go here immediately.

If you want attention from unattractive, obese security guards, this is definitely the place to go!! The security guard flashed his light on my ass as I walked in & was following me to the bar. When I complained & asked for a manager, the bartender said she was the manager (LIE!!). I mentioned it was inappropriate & rude & all she did was agree with me. I attempted to call but only get voicemail. Inexcusable behavior!

This was the spot back in the 90s. But sadly all good things must end. This place is Closed.

The tables were sticky and there was a weird smell lingering in the air, but we had a really great time making fun of the joint and eating the good food.
We had some adult rock playing on the jukebox but someone came in and ruined it with all this crunk music. The music did not fit the bar!
We left when Lil’ Jon wouldn’t shut his damn pie hole!

My boyfriend and I went there a few weeks ago, just to try it out, since it’s near his house. It’s not bad! Not a lot of people there at the time, but then again, it was on a Thursday, but we didn’t mind. Had a few drinks and the tasty mini burgers for pretty cheap. I would go again.

Groucho’s is the perfect place if you’re, a) on a budget and b) looking to keep the party going after 2 a.m. The place is open until 5 a.m., I know because I’ve been there til about 4:30. You can’t find a better deal on Wednesdays, $ 3 domestic pitchers! All you need is a $ 10 spot to make your day.
As far as the food goes, the wings are pretty good and the pizza will satisfy any drunkard. The place can get crowded after 2 a.m. once all the other bars have shut down. Trust me, I’ve seen some things. You’ll wake up asking yourself, «Did I really see that last night!!!» Don’t forget to tip the ladies, they do a good job over by derre.

DUDE!!! this place is awesome!!! Its like the SOuthside equivalent of Blue on Western ave! A latenight bar were all forms of life stumble in and get their last drinks of the night. wow… oh man!

Groucho’s is infamous as a late night establishment. A few years ago, New City included it in «Best of Chicago» as the «Best place to watch a fight». I asked a friend who frequented a few years ago and he gave me some line about the two reasons why dudes go to groucho’s and once its clear that the first isn’t happening they move onto the second.
Full disclosure: I’ve never been here after 11 pm so I haven’t seen it crowded and drunk. That said, i was impressed with the evening shift. Its actually a nice and large lounge with good food for a bar of its style. Don’t expect to have your hair blown back, but their burgers are tasty and they seem to have a pretty large selection of wraps and appentizers better than most bars.
Clean, sharp, good drinks and food… another good spot to watch the sox slowly make me concerned.
