Description

Specialties

Grounds of Being currently serves direct trade Colectivo Coffee Roasters coffees, beans which are roasted in Milwaukee the day before they are arrive at our location. We always feature three distinct roasts, on top of our espresso, decaf and cold-brewed iced coffees. In addition to a full menu of coffee and specialty drinks (including italian sodas, chai tea lattes and apple cider), Grounds of Being stocks a wide variety of craft sodas, local pastries, asian snacks and hot or cold food delivered daily from local restaurants. We are proud to serve the Divinity School, the University of Chicago and the wider Hyde Park community.

History

Established in 1962.

Started in the early 1960s by enterprising students with a single coffee pot, The Divinity School Coffee Shop has grown into a storied University of Chicago destination. The shop has been known over the years as Grounds of Being, the Swift Kick or just the Div School café, but its purpose has remained consistent: to supply our university community with a unique, quality caffeine fix.
