Habit provides and eclectic mix of clothing and accessories; from fashion-​forward & sculptural, to whimsical & playful. Most designs are one-​of-​a-​kind, or created in small quantities (insuring you won’t see yourself coming and going). In addition, shopping at Habit can support your community and the environment. Many labels here use eco-​friendly production such as organic fabrics and dyes, and over half of the designers at Habit are local.

History

Established in 2005.

In the short time since opening the doors in August of 2005, Chicago has taken notice. Habit was named «Best New Store» by the Chicago Tribune, and «Best Boutique» by Chicago Magazine. Habit has also been featured in many major publications such as, Lucky Magazine, Time Out, Daily Candy and The New York Times

Some of the items are cute, and I didn’t get a chance to scope out the jewelry, but the price point is a little higher. They did have a handful of inexpensive vintage/​thrift pieces ($ 10 and up) that’s worth sorting through.
Edit: After a poor customer service experience in the dressing room, I actually got an apologetic reply from the owner. Hopefully, that doesn’t reflect the usual atmosphere, so I’m giving this another star.

I love this place! I got one of those one-​size-​fits-​most dresses on the rounder for a wedding and it was a hit! I got so many compliments! I couldn’t believe how well it fit, especially because I’m a size 12. Anyway, whenever we drive by, I make my boyfriend pull over to check out what she has and it’s always awesome! The prices are reasonable, especially for a designer boutique. Check it out!

If I could shop at only one store and one store only, Habit would definitely be up their in the top 3 I would have to pick from.
I love love this store. For a long time I would just walk by every so often and peer into the window and admire all the pretty things, to afraid to actually walk in because I had a sneaking suspicion I’d be tempted to buy everything.
Well, my suspicion was right, when I finally did go in, I was in the dressing room with about a dozen things.
Over the last couple years I have bought a few dresses, shirts, and skirts from there… every single thing is something I especially treasure in my wardrobe. I have received more compliments on things I have bought from Habit than anything else I own. It seems everything is timeless also, I can wear it for seasons, and it still seems fresh.
Lindsay, the owner, is really sweet, and obviously has an amazing eye for beautiful things for a woman’s body. Her own line is featured at the store also, which is always fun and colorful!

I would offer 5 stars for the clothing and jewelry, very beautiful pieces and unique designs, but the one employee I have encountered many times has never been helpful. I love supporting local businesses and local designers, however, I have had and seen poor customer service.
I cannot fathom that people aren’t using customer service for their own benefit; in this economy it is KEY.
Despite the horrible service, I will go back to support designers.

The best thing about Habit is definitely the amazing jewelry. I haven’t found many pieces over $ 130 so it is relatively affordable for such unique designs and overall high quality. The clothing isn’t really my style but it is definitely very fashion forward and you won’t find Banana Republic knock offs going for 4 times the price at Banana. Also, a lot of the designers are local so its nice to support the nascent Chicago fashion scene! The staff is great, too. Overall, I’d recommend this store if you are looking for a wonderful piece of jewelry at a fairly affordable price.

The clothes here are beautiful, the designs are simple and still very chic. It seems like a great way to indulge yourself, but with the way the economy is I can’t justify the prices. You can find unique pieces and plenty of options for dresses. The employees here are nice and friendly.

I love this store as everything they stock is from small designers. I’ve purchased 5 or 6 dresses over the couple of years and I still love all of them. Each is unique and gets compliments each time I wear it. They’re timeless pieces which will always be in my closet. And, the staff is helpful and friendly, not like some of the other boutiques where you are afraid to browse. The prices are in line with most other handmade items at other shops. There’s a decent range so that you can find something to fit your budget. You can’t expect to pay what you might for something you find at Filene’s.

They have a great selection of jewelry! I’ve bought some pieces there as gifts & my friends tell me that every time they wear it out, they always gets compliments on it ! Plus I like that they have clothes that you most likely won’t find elsewhere & think it’s great Habit supports local designers!

Love! Strolled in here after brunch at milk + honey with some girls, and was thrilled to pieces. Gorgeous, fun clothes in sumputous colors, in sizes that aren’t cut two sizes two small. I walked in expecting not to find anything, but instead, ended up walking out with the best clothing purchase of the year (a fabulous dress) and some great earrings. The clothes are, of course, pricey, but this place, to me, epitomizes the idea of buying pieces you adore that you will wear for a long while instead of trends that come and go. If you’re on a bit of a budget, most of the jewelery is über-​cheap ($ 20 – 30), and makes for great gifts. I’ve worn the earrings and dress about twice, and have gotten at least 10 compliments! Well worth the price to me!

I like Habit, but I don’t love it. I HATE that there are absolutely no returns; the REALLY bothers me. especially since some of the stuff, frankly, is not that well made. I love seeing many of Amy Shutt’s items in person, but you can get them several dollars cheaper from her website. There are some fantastic items here, but it is mostly jewelry and due to their policy I am EXTREMELY hesitant to buy gifts. Also, it is dissapointing to find out most of their best stuff is not from local designers. Come one local designers! You can do better. I also have had the worst case of buyer’s remorse ever from this place, mostly due to their prices being exceptionally high.

There is an amazing boutique that opened in Chicago this fall. The name is Habit, located at 1951 W Division St. (Division and Damen). The store carries a lot of new designers, many exclusive to Habit in Chicago. Many of the things in the store are handmade. They carry men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, including jewelry, bags, hats, belts, etc. It is the prefect store to get something very unique that no one else will have.
I am one of the designers that sells my things there, mostly hats and some other accessories. But even if I didn’t sell my things there, I would recommend the store because it is a shopper’s dream. Prices are reasonable and items are unique. Also many of the designers will do custom work. What more can you ask for?
