I’ve been to literally hundreds of plays, starting in grade school, and nothing has made me laugh like these guys. Consistently well-​produced shows with biting wit and painstaking attention to detail. Their shows are LMFAO ROTF funny every time. Don’t miss one this season!

Last night my husband and I attended the 7:30 performance of «The Birds» which was spectacular!!! Hell in a Handbag Productions is my favorite theatre company in Chicago! Anything David Cerda adapts is a must see!!! WARNING!!! Once you see a show… any show… you will be hooked for life! Do yourself a favor a get tickets ASAP!!!

I go to a lot of theater in Chicago — and this is my absolute favorite company. Nobody does satire and parody better — anywhere. They take old classic movies and lovingly skewer them, twist them and deconstruct them to make them silly and ridiculous beyond belief. They feature some of the best actors and crew in Chicago.
I just hope they keep putting on shows forever.

How is it possible this production company only have 4 reviews on Unilocal???They are a hilariously good time! My only regret is that I just learned about this group. What a FABULOUS way to spend an evening! I took a few girlfriends to see Limitation of Life. Out of the group I was the only one who had seen the movie they were parodying but it didn’t matter. The play was so funny you really didn’t need to know the movie to enjoy it! I cannot wait to see more productions! FYI: Get there early if you want a seat b/​c it is a very small informal space.

I have a degree in English Literature. I took opera lessons as a child. I have been to the Prado and the Musee D’orsay.
Yet somehow Hell in a Handbag Productions knows JUST what trashy and tacky pop culture button to press for my maximum lowbrow pleasure.
I just attended their fourth annual screening The Poseidon Adventure at the Music Box for NYE. Best NYE ever! Great crowd, charmingly smarmy host (sloppy smooches to the one and only Dick O’Day), and signature outbursts of drunken public irreverence. My favorite part of the evening was the fact that the audience was encouraged to yell «Shut the f*ck up!» whenever a particular character said his lines. For some reason, bellowing «Shut the f*ck up!» at the top of my lungs with a bunch of other classless moviegoers cracked me up everytime.
I also will say without a trace of irony that attending their «Sing Along Xanadu» was one of the greatest nights of my life. Say what you will, scoffers and haters, but Xanadu is AWESOME. The soundtrack is like sugar-​spun clouds of sassy sunshine with a twist of fabulousless. And screeching the lyrics along with other inebriated Xanadu enthusiasts gave my life purpose and meaning. You deign to disagree? Shut the f*ck up!
Other notable productions include an interactive Mommy Dearest (can you imagine the sheer joy of howling, «No wire hangers, EVER!»), as well as a staged version of The Poseidon Adventure.
It’s not Shakespeare, but so what? The HIAH crew hustles like a one-​armed paper hanger to ensure everyone has a good time. And that, dear reader, is more than good enough for me.

Saw «The Rip Nelson Halloween Spooktacular» at Mary’s Attic this weekend. Great show and highly recommended. Laugh out loud funny and superb performances by all.
If you go on a weekend, and want seats, get there early ($ 16) or pick up a standing room ticket ($ 10) at the door.

I just had a chance to catch a sneek preview of The Birds, a David Cerda work. He has amazing talent. Funny & dark: Scarrie the Musical, Rudolph the Red Hosed Reindeer.
