Placenta Encapsulation is a process of turning the placenta into an edible form, through dehydration, powdering and placing into capsules. Mothers can then consume the capsules to gain mood-stablization, increased milk supply and increase postpartum healing.
The Placenta can be prepared using either the Traditional Chinese Method or the Raw-food method. Both offer similar benefits, but have subtle differences in the mood stabilization. (TCM is more of a slow-burn while Raw is a more energetic effect)
In addition, I also offer Placenta Prints (beautiful art made from YOUR placenta), Placenta Tincture (to prolong the effects of the placenta when the capsules are gone) and Placenta Salve (for skin: restorative power of the hormones in the placenta).
My process includes pick-up and delivery. All processes are done on designated equipment in my home, so you don’t have live with the smell or mess! I follow OSHA standards.
History
Established in 2010.
I have been a doula and Childbirth Educator in the Chicago since 2006. Over the years, I began to see the benefits my clients were experiencing from consuming their placentas. In the beginning, women had to either encapsulate it on their own or consume the placenta in smoothies (baaarrrrrfff). So I added it to my list of services, and now it has become a very primary part of my business. The social acceptance of the practice has changed dramatically even in the few years that I have been offering this service.
I have also had great success with placenta consumption, personally. After my first child’s birth in 2005, I had undiagnosed postpartum depression for six months. It was a dark time, and I never wanted to experience it again. So when I had my second and third child, I opted for placenta consumption. It was such a dramatic difference — I felt even-tempered, present and happy. I also know that it helped me heal faster. I am thrilled to offer the same to other mamas.

My name is Holly Barhamand. I am a mother of three and birth-worker. I have been a labor doula since 2006, attending over 100 births since then. I am also a Birthing From Within mentor, which means I teach their model of childbirth preparation. I have been encapsulating placentas since 2010.
