This place is also known as Diversey Market. It is the worst. The guy who runs the place is a total jerk, and has tried shorting me on my change EVERY SINGLE TIME I have visited this store. I get that people make mistakes and sometimes count wrong, but this guy has shorted me at least $ 1, and as high as $ 3 on the four times I have been to this place. Each time I called him out on it, and he doesn’t say a word, just opens the register and gives me the correct change that I should have received. The only times I have gone in there is to break a $ 5 or $ 10 bill into singles to do laundry next door.
There was only one time I didn’t get ripped off. I went in to buy a can of pop, brought it to the counter, handed the guy a $ 5, and he said he couldn’t sell me it because he has absolutely no change in the register. I asked if I could use credit card and he said there was a credit minimum.
The food selection is dusty and gross, but they do have a great blunt/​cigar selection.
I live across the street from the place, and have seen fights break out outside the store. I have seen a man lay down inside the store, claiming he was having a heart attack, while his friends laughed and browsed the store. (This doesn’t say anything about the store or the owners of the store, just a weird vibe around this place.)
OH YEAH, and the store sells loosie cigarettes. All the time. Stand outside the store for 20 minutes any afternoon and you’re sure to see someone coming out of the store with a single cigarette behind their ear or in their mouth. (I don’t smoke but my roommate who frequents the store has purchased single cigarettes from the store in the past.)
And yeah, I get that this place is a crappy corner store. That’s what it is. It’s not gonna have everything you’re looking for. It’s gonna charge a little more than Walgreens or CVS for most items. I’d much rather support a local business than a huge chain, but not like this.
