Kingsbury Street Cafe

A solid place for brunch. I love when places offer multiple kinds of bloody mary’s, the bacon bloody was great. My mushroom quiche was on point but every meal I saw that included an egg looked amazing. The service was very quick, your water glass will always stay full & the staff was super friendly. Will definitely go back.

My visit here was a random find! Had some family in town and needed a brunch place.
We were there early on a weekend so we didn’t have too terrible of wait but if they take reservations, I’d recommend doing so if you go during busy times!
Our waitress was great though. Very friendly, attentive and patient with my parents who don’t eat out a ton. The speed of the food being brought out was right on par and the quality of the food was good.
This is definitely a place I’ll keep in mind for future occasions.

Super yummy and cute little place. Very clean. The menu has some different, fun choices, too. My boyfriend got the lemon pancakes… SO good!

Sharing the lemon pancakes and black bean butternut squash tostadas with a friend for brunch was the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Everything was delicious and they even had pumpkin pie hot chocolate, which tasted more like a pumpkin pie chai, but it was super yummy all the same. Good service, was able to get seated promptly. I will be back!

Met friends and family for brunch a weekend or two ago. Beautiful, bright, airy spot, with great service. The food, however, was just so-​so. I got the Vietnamese salad and added on the jumbo shrimp. Flavor was nice, but nothing spectacular. Most others got egg dishes and seemed perfectly satisfied. We also got cookies and pastries from the case, and those were also just meh.
It’ll certainly hit the spot, if you’re in the neighborhood, but there are so many better brunch places in Chicago, that I’d rather seek one of them out if I could.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at Kingsbury. It was amazing and perfect for our party. The staff was very flexible and accommodating, even when I changed our arrival time 3x (oops). Danielle was our fabulous server. The restaurant gave us several treats and even a plate of their Lemon Pancakes with their congratulations written in chocolate sauce on the plate.
The environment was very welcoming and casual but it still had some class to it. They even had alcoholic beverages to go with breakfast/​brunch like bloody marys and mimosas. Each one of their dishes was beautifully served and delicious. All of my guests were happy and well taken care of. The extra price for their food is worth it.

I loved this place – brunch was delicious and the restaurant is light and airy, though a bit loud. The coffee was a little strong for my taste. I ordered the bim bim bap, my husband ordered kingsbury Benedict and the kids ordered chicken fingers. Everyone cleaned their plates. We’ll be back!

We finally found the best classy yet casual brunch spot in Chicago!
I had the bi bim bap: The flavors were so fresh. The chili paste was delectable. The mix of pickled vegetables and sautéed spinach was so on point… I honestly can’t believe how good it was!
My husband had the croque madame: The cheese had an amazing flavor, and for someone who doesn’t eat pork really, I found the flavor to be delectable. In my husband’s words «my only problem was the sandwich was too good and I couldn’t stop eating it.»
Bloody Mary’s were more ‘gardenish’ than I would normally like, but I found the flavor to be refreshing and completely delicious.
This place is awesome… we will most definitely be back! Thanks to Check Please for revealing this gem!

I went there the day after black Friday for brunch. The location is convenient near whole foods and a whole bunch of branded showrooms.
The food was excellent. I had Egg Benedict with freshly blended mango-​orange juice. The waiters are friendly and welcoming. Also, very vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Enjoyed brunch here with my Mom on a Friday morning. Lots of options and everything was delicious. Love the open airy feeling in KSC.
Only issue would be parking, there’s a lot next door for around $ 7 or the FFC lot is there too. & make a reservation!

We ordered:
Salmon Hash
Lemon Pancakes
Vietnamese Coffee (with sweetened condensed milk)
All 3 dishes were so delicious! Salmon hash was the perfect combination of breakfast staples (perfectly poached eggs, crispy hash brown, veggies and well seasoned and not-​dry salmon). The lemon pancakes with blueberries — i love the lemon+blueberry combination so this was a winner before it went in my mouth! Coffee was delicious as well.
Service was phenomenal — super friendly and attentive workers, meal came out fast and tasted great!
I also love the place — super high ceilings and just a very open room with lots of natural light — my idea of the perfect ambiance for brunch!
We will be back!

Great brunch spot with lots of fresh baked options and some novel twists on standard brunch/​breakfast items. One of my favorite Chicago brunch spots.

The shrimp and egg white frittata here is by far the sexiest thing on the block. And that’s including the fact that Kingsbury Street Café sits next door to one of the better strip clubs in Chicago. Now granted, our city isn’t exactly known for it’s naked lady spots, but still, I’d spend my hard earned dollars on this breakfast dish over a lapper from about anyone in the entire world. Ok… maybe not Channing Tatum.
The egg whites, spinach, roasted tomatoes, and giant prawns just go together more perfectly than anything I’ve ever eaten in the morning. Not to mention it’s half way healthy. Sure, paired with a cup of coffee, and you’re looking at about a 20 spot for a breakfast, but sometimes the finer things in life are just worth paying for.
Always incredible service and you can park pretty easily in the Whole Foods loading area. Overall the only thing I don’t like is when I’ve tried to go too early and they weren’t open. Other than that this is probably my second favorite breakfast in the city.

Was looking for brunch places and came across place, WAS AWESOMEEE!
Me and my friend ordered the lemon pancakes and the pulled chicken eggs benedict. Both were amazing. The lemon pancakes was amazing, I’m not a huge lemon fan but they were so fluffy and delicious. The portion sizes were perfect.
ordered the masala chai tea was is a bit sugary, FYI
Seems we got a table at around 10 but I came back the next day and it was JAM packed… right fully so.
I was thinking about bongo room in wicker park which I’ve been to, always packed, but the portion sizes are ridiculous, so much sugar for their pancakes, this was way more tolerable.
Also, service, cleanliness, lighting of the place/​atmosphere were all great!

What a great little breakfast! I got the piggy moo cluck breakfast sandwich — yum! Fiancé got the lemon pancakes — also yum! He ended up ordering sides because several reviews said the portions were small and the prices were high. That was not our experience, at all. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were great! I don’t eat like a bird, either. I am… AMERICAN!
The only complaints I had: (1) coffee. Bitter. Very common complaint throughout the reviews I read. Fix it! There are tons of great coffees out there. (2) noise. It was SO loud in there. People were commenting on it all over the place. Maybe it was the high ceilings? (3) flies. There were tons of them, and not because the patio was open. Fruit flies.

The breakfast/​brunch here is great. The menu has an array of unique options that are all delicious. I went with a group of 6 and we all ordered different items and nobody had any complaints. Between the deviled eggs, scrambles, pancakes and hashes, everyone was satisfied with their meals.
The wait can be long and it gets really crowded inside so you may have to wait outside. They had our table ready for a while but did not seat us because they said they needed menus, which was a little odd.
Overall good food and I do recommend!

Went here Memorial Day weekend for lunch.
It took us forever to get seated. Not only did some mature male decide to cut me in line, but the host was aloof to what was going on.
We got seated by about 2 PM. We got water from the bus boy (SHOUT OUT), but our server was MIA. For about 15 minutes, we waited to get coffee and my friend got a Bloody Mary which he took two sips of and HATED!
The food was actually really good. Our server didn’t come by until 15 minutes in and did not come back to check on us either.
They messed up my brothers’ order. Food was awesome. Best toast I have had in a while. The maple glazed bacon was awesome, too.
I won’t be back. I’ll stick to Kanela or Horizon Café.

I was hoping for great things at Kingsbury and I was disappointed.
We arrived around 1:45 P.M. on Saturday. The restaurant was two-​thirds full, with the outdoor tables turning over. I was hoping we would be able to get one, but we had 3 parties in front of us who arrived about 30 seconds before we hopped in line.
It wasn’t a good start. We waited for what it seemed to be 10 minutes just to speak to the host. We were going to have a party of 3 or 4, and when we stated that our 4^th member may not come, that seemed to cause a crisis for the male host.
We eventually were seated, and things did not get better. Our menus arrived and we browsed, then waited, and waited, and waited. My brother finally went up to the host and made sure that they knew our 4^th wouldn’t be coming (we weren’t sure but we didn’t want to delay service; ended up being delayed anyways!)
When our waiter arrived, we were ready to order. My friend order the Piggy Moo sandwich or whatever it’s called, along with a bloody Maria. My brother ordered the Kingsbury breakfast, which came with eggs, bacon, roasted potatoes, roasted tomatoes, and their whole wheat buttered toast. I created my own omelette with leaks, mushrooms, and peppers. I had a choice of potatoes or tomatoes, and opted for the latter. The toast (whole wheat) was also included. I added a side of sautéed spinach as well.
My friend’s bloody Maria was terrible and he barely took 2 sips. His sandwich was good; he was full and saved his potatoes and half of his sandwich for tomorrow. My brother enjoyed his bacon the most. He also said that the hot sauce on his scrambled eggs was good. As for me, my omelette was just okay. Not great, but nothing made me go ‘Wow.’ I was given potatoes instead of my requested tomatoes, but was given the latter after mentioning it. They both were very good.
My meal was 13.50. Our total was 49 and change. I went up with two 20s to get change and was told by the male host to go to the bar. Not a problem, but I was very irked by his overall demeanor, to be honest with you. I usually give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but this guy just rubbed me the wrong way. Our server was good; no complaints there. Food came out relatively quickly, too.
There’s nothing that is going to make me come back to this place, especially with x amount of restaurants in the area. The overall experience was not good.

I wanted to like it more.
On my first visit a few years ago, I remembered Kingsbury as having the best chai tea latte I’ve ever had. It was spicy, it was flavorful, and it was comforting. The sandwich I tried on that occasion (cluck moo oink?) was ordinary, and I remember eyeing the pastry case on the way out. Muffins, cookies, and the like are piled high! Talk about eating with your eyes!
Flash forward to March 2015, and I decided it was time to return for brunch with some friends. Easy reservation on OpenTable! Be prepared for an energetic atmosphere; the acoustics in the space will make it hard to carry on a focused conversation.
I ordered the chai tea latte, and it was disappointing because it was lukewarm at best. Also, our waiter Ben disappeared and didn’t return for a while, so by the time he came back (after our meals were served), I just forgot about telling him about the temp problem.
For brunch, I usually don’t opt to burger, but I was craving some heavy protein, so I went with the bacon burger, ordered medium. Burger was really dry and took a lot of chewing; bun was also too much bread and added to the dryness. My friend’s lemon pancakes, though they looked delectable, were notably bland (whaaa!).
Last note: good luck with parking! We were lucky and found a street spot right outside, but it’s a busy area by North/​Clybourn with a large Whole Foods across the street.

Wait and location aside, this place is deserving of of 4.5 stars but our server wasn’t that great either. Some may consider it pricy too, but no more than most other chic brunch spots in the city.
Between 3 of us, we got a house Bloody Mary, a Cappuccino and a Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk. All our beverages were really good. For food we ordered a Kingsbury café eggs Benedict, the Egg white frittata and I got the salmon hash. The BBQ chicken in the Benedict was certainly unique and very tasty.
The inside of the space is bright, clean and very warm and inviting. I would certainly go back to try of the traditional lunch menu items.
