History

Established in 1987.

Dan «The Lobster Man» started Lobster Gram as a one-​man show, handling everything himself from packing and shipping to processing all the orders. After the success of the mail order business, Dan decided a local store was needed. In 2011, we opened the Chicago Warehouse store to serve the local market of lobster, steak and seafood lovers in the Chicagoland area. The store has built up quite a loyal following and many families enjoy having an affordable source for getting fresh lobsters flown in from Maine, along with Lobster Gram’s other gourmet specialties.

I am Dan «The Lobster Man» and I started Lobster gram in 1987. I developed and started the home live lobster delivery concept. Lobster gram has its own customer service center and warehouse that is staffed with it’s own people. We control the experience from the moment you call or go to our website to when the package is assembled. My wife and I received a Lobster Gram gift for Christmas consisting of 4 lobster tails and clam chowder. The lobster was superb — very flavorful, moist, and lots of it. The clam chowder was simply the best ever — reminds us of the homemade chowder that you get when visiting coastal towns in Maine and Nova Scotia.
Next order we are looking forward to trying the lobster mac and cheese — it looks really good.

I have used Lobster Gram several times now. Their Lobster Mac N Cheese is to die for! I ordered 2 lobster tails recently and was very nervous about preparing them. Lobster Gram included a very easy to use cooking guide. The lobster tails turned out so well, I ordered 4 more!

I was filled with trepidation when we received a bunch of seafood from LobsterGram as a gift — based on the spotty reviews on Unilocal.I anticipated trouble because I had to change the delivery date, and I really thought they’d screw it up. But no, our box of frozen goodies arrived on the requested date, and everything was well-​packed and seems as if it’s the highest quality. First to be eaten was the clam chowder, and it was delicious. Fresh lobster meat (for lobster rolls) is a good-​sized tub of lobster chunks and claw meat, and my husband thought it could have a better texture, but I think claw meat is just naturally soft, so I’ll reserve judgement on that. The King Crab legs look great, as do the lobster tails. The crab cakes seem kind of mushy, and have to be baked instead of fried because of that, but that might not turn out to be a drawback (I’ll know tonight, when i cook them). One very much appreciated item is the Cooking Guide, that answers every conceivable question you might have about your seafood, and even includes a few recipes.
The prices seem quite high, otherwise I’d give this place 5 stars, but overall I am very happy with our LobsterGram experience.

I ordered a Xmas dinner to arrive on the 23rd by 2 day air saver. On the 23rd I received a phone call stating it was going to be delivered on the 24th instead.
I dont have a problem with that, but to make up for it, they should have made it 2 day air (with guaranteed delivery by 1.30pm) instead of 2 day air saver (which means delivery up to 7pm).
I was lucky enough that the food eventually got delivered by 5pm, and we got to enjoy it that night.
Aside from that logistical issue, I have to admit the food quality was extremely good and tasty. I cannot stress enough how good everything tasted! So that would have been a 5* just for that.
I also found the customer service very responsive and willing to help. They even sent a $ 50 gift card to make up for trouble.
So thank you, and definitely recommending to any out there. Just make sure you ask for 1 day earlier delivery than you want, just to save you some stress.

I ordered the «All About Lobster Feast Dinner for 2» for my father for Christmas. It was to arrive on the 23rd via 2-​day air. They called my father on the 23rd to tell him they couldn’t deliver until the 24th. Unfortunately, he was leaving for a trip on the 24th. Fail.

I ordered the lobster Rangoons, Lobster Mac ‘N Cheese Balls, and Lobster Spring Rolls last week and they were a big hit at the party I brought them to. I paid for 2-​day delivery and the package arrived on the morning of the second day, and was in excellent condition (I live in Florida and it was close to 90 degrees last Friday.) … The Rangoons and Spring Rolls were excellent, I’d say the lobster mac ‘n cheese balls were okay. Overall, I was very pleased with my order and would use Lobster Gram again.

I was gifted two Live lobsters and six tails for my birthday this year. What a pleasant and unexpected surprise! The box arrived in Portland, OR clean, everything inside was intact, and the lobsters were still live. We’ve bought ME lobsters out west that have sat in tanks for long times and we always feel they are tough and gritty /​dirty. The Lobster Gram lobsters were so much better than anything we’ve gotten out here in over 7 years. We will definitely order from them ourselves.

I started using Lobster Gram last year to send gift baskets to customers and they absolutely love it! This is an out of the box gift idea for customers if you want to bypass the traditional flowers, chocolates, cards, etc, etc. Save that for the wife. I ordered a bunch of different gourmet food items from Lobster Gram last month and had it delivered to friends we stayed at in Naples as a thank you gift. It arrived ontime in a very attractive box. To say they were in awe is a complete understatement. They couldn’t stop talking about how everything was so neatly packaged and placed just right in the box.
The best part was they loved the food items I sent even more than the presentation of the package.
If you want to impress someone this is a sure way to do it.

I’m writing this as a recipient of a Lobster Gram from a family member as a Christmas gift. Perhaps it is because I’m a foodie who happens to live in a city with ample options for buying fresh seafood and fantastic cuts of beef, but for the life of me I cannot imagine thinking it is a good idea to purchase this for someone. When we received the GIGANTIC box that said Lobster Gram we assumed-​given the overabundance of packaging materials and size-​that we had been sent fresh, live lobsters. Instead we found a tiny box of steak and a tiny box of lobster tails. Looking at the receipt (which they enclosed despite this being a gift) I am HORRIFIED it cost so much to buy these underwhelming pieces of meat. We could have easily purchased something fresh and fabulous around here for less. As a household that cares about the environment, it was heartbreaking to throw out so much packaging for such tiny items. We couldn’t help but feel the packaging was to intentionally mislead you into thinking something large and live was encased inside. When we finally defrosted our beef and lobster it was chewy (aka-​frozen meat) and hardly worth the price. Seriously, if you care about value, being green and eating good, local food DO NOT buy this. It is a horrible gift.

I would never order from this company. I ordered 10 day early for a Christmas present for my brother and family. They did not receive it. Lobster Gram said they would redeliver overnight so they would have it before Christmas. They never got it. I called Lobster Gram and they said they could not do it but could get it before the New Year.
What kind of service is this. I will never order from this company.

I traditionally give Lobster Gram gift certificates at Christmas to customers, friends, and family-​but this year was challenged and disappointed in the website performance and almost passed. A quick email to customer service to express my disappointment was replied to quickly with a phone call to address my concerns. had such a great experience from start to finish! I got to meet the actual Lobster Man himself at work event. From there, I was sold on sending my boyfriends family live lobsters to arrive on Christmas Eve! The lobsters were extremely fresh and large and arrive on Christmas Eve as promised for their special dinner!!! Looking forward to ordering again soon!

If I could give them negative stars, I would. I ordered my 2 Live Lobsters and 2 Kobe steaks over a week ago for overnight delivery on Christmas Eve. We planned on having a surf and turf Christmas Eve dinner. It never came. It is now 09:45pm Christmas Eve night and my husband and I had to resort to getting take out sushi since we did not plan for a backup. We paid $ 30+ for overnight delivery and I was not even notified that there was an issue. To make matters worse, my order shows «processing» status which does not even give me a tracking number. Horrible, horrible service. I had gotten a live lobster from this same company over 6 years ago and told my husband how great it was but clearly service has changed over the years.

Aweful online ordering. We ordered it for two day shipping, and it hasn’t shown up after 5 days and counting. Also, their online order tracking is down which is very suspicious as well.
