History

Established in 1923.

Lou Mitchell’s Restaurant and Bakery was started by Uncle Lou’s father in 1923 at the then yet completed Route66 (commissioned in 1926).

The magic and traditions began that are still part of our guests experience today, from our made from scratch and fresh prepared daily specials, in house made marmalade, fluffy omelets, and fresh baked Greek, wheat, rye and cinnamon raisin toast, to the freshly squeezed juices, private blend coffee, and Lou’s signature syrup.

All our guests are greeted with our, still made on premises, donut holes and are offered an orange wedge and stewed prune with their breakfast.

Lou’s finishes your experience sweet with a dollop of soft serve vanilla ice cream complements of the house!

All ladies and children are also treated to Uncles traditional trade mark box of Milk Duds!

Come join us at Chicago’s oldest continuing restaurant Lou Mitchell’s!
