Marsha’s Music brings the joy of family music making to all children birth through age five in our Music Together program, and the adults who love them. The fun and learning continues for children five to seven years old in our Music Together Big Kids program. We also bring music education to preschools, daycares, and after school programs.

History

Established in 2001.

Marsha Melsheimer, director of Marsha’s Music, was a preschool teacher who discovered the Music Together program through a continuing education workshop. She took the training, obtained a license, and opened Marsha’s Music by providing the Music Together program to families in her preschool classroom. These families were so excited about the program they brought their friends and classes grew! Marsha’s Music expanded to Lincoln Park and Wicker Park in 2009. Now there are three locations in Chicago with many more families bringing the joy of family music making into their lives!

Marsha Melsheimer is a registered Certification Level I Music Together® teacher and has been the licensed director of Marsha’s Music since January 2001, when she started the first classes in Hyde Park. The Lincoln Park and Wicker Park locations opened in April 2009. Marsha’s music education started as a young child with parents who loved to sing anywhere! She studied piano, guitar, and voice. In college she was a biology major (studying songbirds), with a music minor. After college she moved to Chicago to sing with a friend in coffee houses and live music venues, later returning to her classical training at a weekly church job. When her daughters started in the Chicago Public Schools Marsha began volunteering in their classrooms, bringing her guitar and singing songs from her childhood since there was no music program. This led to her job as a preschool teacher for eight years at The Nursery School at K.A.M. in Hyde Park, where she met Ken Guilmartin, the founder of Music Together, at
