Specialties

Mignonette Bridal designs heirloom gowns for modern girls. We specialize in custom gowns, locally-made gowns from Chicago designers, and antique gown revamping. We also provide expert gown and bridesmaid alterations as well as veils, jewelry, sashes, and other wedding accessories.

History

Established in 2002.

Mignonette began as a handmade women’s clothing and accessories label in Brooklyn, NY, in 2002. Carried in boutiques across the country as well as online, Mignonette became known for adorable, feminine dresses and separates. After moving to San Francisco, owners Kpoene’ and Anne slowly transitioned the business from daywear to bridal after receiving numerous requests from clients for custom wedding gowns. In 2011 we opened our shop in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, offering romantic, delicate wedding gowns handmade in Chicago, as well as locally-made jewelry, veils, gifts, and stationery. Starting in 2014 Mignonette will launch its first gown collection with 10 designs — be sure to check out our website for previews!

Meet the Business Owner

Kpoene’ K.

Business Owner

I grew up watching my mother sew, and my earliest memories are of visiting the fabric store with her on Saturdays, playing in the fabrics and running my hands through the loose buttons in the bins. Though I have a degree in creative writing, all of my free time in college was spent building costumes in the theater department. In 2002 I started Mignonette as a sportswear label, and it grew up as I did, eventually becoming known for ladylike details and sharp silhouettes. I always had custom clients, but it was while planning my own 2009 wedding that it all came together for me: I tried on gown after gown without finding the ‘one’, and I left each bridal shop feeling tense and confused. I confided my woes to a client whose gown I was making and she wondered why I hadn’t thought to make my own. Though it seems obvious, it was the ‘ah hah!’ moment I needed to have. After having several brides come to me with similar tales, I decided to devote myself to making every bride feel beautiful.

«Debbie is the first person I recommend to my brides and she styles most of our models and clients. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.»
