Besides their B&B(which is excellent), the Monastery of the Holy Cross offers their Guest Houses for retreat and renewal. They welcome men and women interested in deepening their spiritual lives. In the ancient monastic tradition of hospitality, the monastery offers a chance to engage in relaxation, reflection, silence, and solitude. A few hours, a day, a few days or longer in available. Ascension House & Saint Michael House — both comfortable 19th century houses on the monastery grounds– each offer 3 individual guest rooms, shared bath, kitchen and common rooms. Check their Web site or Call(773) 927‑7424, ext. 202 to speak to the Guestmaster, Br. Edward.

I have stayed at the B&B at the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Bridgeport on at least three separate occasions since 2003. If the cost weren’t too high for me in today’s economy, I would definitely stay there again. The cost($ 150+ per day) is worth it, though, especially for the delicious and huge breakfast that the monks serve every morning and for the space, cleanliness and peacefulness of St. Joseph’s Loft. The Benedictine monks call their mission one of providing«silence in the city.» It works for me! Let’s pray that the money comes back sometime soon.
