Oracle Theatre

Even though you won’t see Keanu Reeves being told he’s «the one» at this Oracle, the Oracle Theater will knock your socks off.
I rsvp’d online a couple weeks before (highly recommended) for The Jungle. Without knowing anything about Oracle, I jumped on since The Jungle is my fav book of all time. I later learned the theater is no frills and completely donation-​based. While it’s quite tiny and you may miss it if you drive by too fast, it’s truly a gem.
Some tips:
–There’s only 1 bathroom for everyone! Squeeze it out somewhere else beforehand.
–If you don’t show up before 5 min start of show, your spot is given to someone there.
–No snacks, drinks, etc. are sold and very bare-​bones but I promise the acting is not compromised.
Caliber of the actors and performance was on par with what I’ve seen at Steppenwolf.
This is an establishment I definitely want to keep supporting and will be making a point to catch their next show!

I saw The Jungle with some friends. The theatre is really small, but it makes for a very intimate experience. I was so impressed with what they were able to do with such a small space. The production definitely exceeded my expectations. I’ve read the book before, but for my friends, who didn’t, it was a great rendition and very expressive of they key points from the novel. I’m happy to check out another production.
There are opportunities to donate. I think when you reserve a ticket online, at the venue, and after the production. This can be done cash or card.

Amazing free theatre. We saw their adaptation of Upton Sinclair’s the Jungle. It was fantastic — the singing, music, and acting were phenomenal. It’s amazing what they can do in such a small space. Rather than thinking, oh this is an awkwardly small theater, you find yourself viscerally part of the show, in a really moving way. Two thumbs up (I’d say it even if it wasn’t free!, but it is, so you have no reason NOT to go!)

Like others have said, don’t let free make you think not good. I worried about that but was dead wrong and happily pleased :)
Saw The Jungle. Wondered how this would be adapted, they did a lovely job. Good set of actors and, not being a very seasoned play-​goer, was personally wowed by their use of sound/​music/​singing, light, stage props to set the scene.
Go here. And bring a few bucks… even though it is free :)

When I think of «free theater,» I think of mediocre theater, at best. Oracle Theatre, however, is definitely an exception. I got to see «The President,» on 4÷25÷14 and I LOVED it. The acting was delightful and the comedic timing was spot-​on. I still couldn’t believe that it’s free to the public.
I didn’t realize that we could make a donation at the end of the show, and I didn’t bring any cash with me at the time, but I’m convinced that I will donate in the future.
Go see a show, and support this Chicago gem!

I missed «Waiting for Lefty» while it was running but just saw «The Mother». WHAT A PERFORMANCE! The cast, the room and the passion were brilliant.
I cannot wait to see everything else they produce.

I can’t believe I didn’t know this place existed before a few weeks ago when I happened to notice it when I was heading to the bike store to scope out their helmet selection. My boyfriend and I ended up seeing Bertolt Brecht’s THE MOTHER and it was quite an experience. I really can’t wait to see what they do next.

I just recently learned of the «Oracle’s Public Access Theatre.»
The philosophy of Public Access Theater is to request donations instead of charging a set entrance fee or to ask for sponsorship. We enjoyed the performance «Ironmistress» by April De Angelis and the performances by Katherine Keberlein as Martha Dabry and Sarah Goeden as Little Cog.
The theater is a gem to our neighborhood. We were able to relax and enjoy their show.

I’ve been to Oracle twice, first to see a friend in Blood Wedding, then just because to see Woyzcek.
The fact that Oracle puts on such incredible performances for a free public season is really… really…incredible. Their casting is spot on… the sets are beautifully inventive for such a small space… and the tech is so creative.
I absolutely loved the shows I saw here and can’t wait to see more. And I also desperately hope I work for them in the future.
GO SEE A SHOW. It’s free, y’all!

The oracle theater is a live «scary» performance, not a haunted house. We just came here over the weekend after visiting the website and seeing all the reviews for the place, i was expecting alittle more them what we saw. It was still a little scary– mainly because i didnt know what to expect. I wish it was a little longer, and got a little more «personal» but i think it was worth the 9 bucks.
